Fastener Tightening Specifications
Removal Procedure
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to «Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle»(/chevrolet/express-g1500/2013-2013/remont/hoistjack/#general-information) .
- Remove the tie down bracket to the frame mounting bolts, left side only.
- Remove the tie down bracket from the frame.
Installation Procedure
- Install the tie down bracket to the frame.
- Install the tie down bracket to the frame mounting bolts and tighten to 80 N.m (59 lb ft).
- Lower the vehicle.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to «Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle»(/chevrolet/express-g1500/2013-2013/remont/hoistjack/#general-information) .
- Remove the engine protection shield mounting bolts, light duty shown, heavy duty similar.
- Remove the engine protection shield.
- Install the engine protection shield.
- Install the engine protection shield mounting bolts, light duty shown, heavy duty similar, and tighten to 20 N.m (15 lb ft).
- Lower the vehicle.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to «Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle»(/chevrolet/express-g1500/2013-2013/remont/hoistjack/#general-information) .
- Disconnect the electrical wiring harness connectors from the engine crossmember.
- Remove the engine crossmember mounting bolts.
- Remove the engine crossmember.
- Install the engine crossmember.
- Install the engine crossmember mounting bolts. LD 14, 200 lb GVW, tighten the bolts to 120 N.m (89 lb ft). CA 14, 200 lb GVW, tighten the bolts to 85 N.m (63 lb ft) plus 90 degrees. HD and CA, tighten the bolts to 135 N.m (100 lb ft)
- Connect the electrical wiring harness connectors to the engine crossmember.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to «Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle»(/chevrolet/express-g1500/2013-2013/remont/hoistjack/#general-information) .
- Support lower control arms with safety stands.
- Unload the torsion bars. Refer to «Torsion Bar and Support Assembly Replacement»(/chevrolet/express-g1500/2013-2013/remont/suspension-front/#front-suspension-system__torsion-bar-and-support-assembly-replacement) .
- Remove the right side differential carrier lower mounting bracket bolt and nut.
- Remove the left side differential carrier lower mounting bracket bolt.
- Remove the engine crossmember bolt from the left lower control arm bracket.
- Remove the engine crossmember lower mounting bolts and nuts.
- Remove the engine crossmember upper mounting bolts.
- Disconnect the electrical wiring harness connectors from the engine crossmember.
- Remove the lower control arm nuts and washers.
- Remove the lower control arm bolts until bolts are flush with the frame.
- Remove the engine crossmember.
- Install the engine crossmember.
- Install the lower control arm bolts to the through the engine crossmember and frame.
- Install the lower control arm nuts and washers and tighten the lower control arm to frame mounting nuts. Without 14050/12300GVW, tighten to 155 N.m (114 lb ft). With 14050/12300GVW, tighten to 120 N.m (89 lb ft) plus 175 degrees. With diesel engine, tighten to 120 N.m (89 lb ft) plus 175 degrees.
- Connect the electrical wiring harness connectors to the engine crossmember.
- Install the engine crossmember upper mounting bolts. Do not tighten.
- Install the engine crossmember lower mounting bolts and nuts and tighten to 65 N.m (48 lb ft).
- Install the engine crossmember bolt to the left side lower control arm bracket and tighten to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
- Install the left side differential carrier lower mounting bracket bolt and tighten to 85 N.m (63 lb ft).
- Install the right side differential carrier lower mounting bracket bolt and nut and tighten to 85 N.m (63 lb ft).
- Load the torsion bars. Refer to «Torsion Bar and Support Assembly Replacement»(/chevrolet/express-g1500/2013-2013/remont/suspension-front/#front-suspension-system__torsion-bar-and-support-assembly-replacement) .
- Remove the supports from the lower control arms.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Raise the vehicle. Refer to «Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle»(/chevrolet/express-g1500/2013-2013/remont/hoistjack/#general-information) .
- Support the transmission with a safety stand.
- Remove the brake combination valve to transmission support crossmember mounting bolt.
- Remove the fuel filter bracket to transmission support crossmember retaining bolts.
- Remove the transmission mount to the transmission support crossmember retaining nut, for RWD vehicles.
- Remove the transmission mount to the transmission support crossmember retaining nuts, for 4WD vehicles.
- Remove the transmission support crossmember to the frame mounting bolts.
- Remove the transmission support crossmember from the vehicle.
- Install the transmission support crossmember to the vehicle.
- Install the transmission support crossmember to the frame mounting bolts. Tighten the bolts to 50 N.m (37 lb ft), except Cutaway. Tighten the bolts to 65 N.m (48 lb ft), Cutaway.
- Install the transmission mount to the transmission support crossmember retaining nuts, for 4WD vehicles and tighten to 60 N.m (44 lb ft).
- Install the transmission mount to the transmission support crossmember retaining nut, for RWD vehicles and tighten to 60 N.m (44 lb ft).
- Install the fuel filter bracket to transmission support crossmember retaining bolts and tighten to 30 N.m (22 lb ft).
- Install the brake combination valve to transmission support crossmember mounting bolt and tighten to 10 N.m (89 lb in).
- Remove the safety stands.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Remove the screws retaining the fuel filter pipe to the body.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to «Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle»(/chevrolet/express-g1500/2013-2013/remont/hoistjack/#general-information) .
- Use jack stands in order to support the body of the vehicle.
- Release the brake line retainers closest to the first body mount (2) in order to ensure that the brake lines will not bend when you lower the frame.
- Loosen all the body mount bolts (5). Do not remove the bolts.
- Remove the bolt (5) from the body mount.
- Lower the frame slightly.
- Remove the body mount from the frame.
- Install the body mount (2) to the frame.
- Raise the frame.
- Install the bolt (5) to the body mount.
- Install the body mount bolts (5) and tighten to 140 N.m (103 lb ft).
- Install the brake line retainers.
- Remove the safety stands.
- Lower the vehicle.
- Install the screws retaining the fuel filler pipe to the body.
- Remove the push pin retainers (3) retaining the wheelhouse extension (2) to the wheelhouse (1).
- Remove the wheelhouse extension (2) from the wheelhouse (1).
- Install the wheelhouse extension (2) to the wheelhouse (1).
- Install the push pin retainers (3) in order to retain the wheelhouse extension (2) to the wheelhouse.
Scheme 1
- Remove the front passenger side tire. Refer to «Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (6-Lug Wheel)»(/chevrolet/express-g1500/2013-2013/remont/wheel-tire-system/#tires-and-wheels__tire-and-wheel-removal-and-installation) , «Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (8-Lug Wheel)»(/chevrolet/express-g1500/2013-2013/remont/wheel-tire-system/#tires-and-wheels__tire-and-wheel-removal-and-installation) . Remove the push pin retainers (1) retaining the splash shield (3) to the wheelhouse.
- Remove the bolt (2) retaining the splash shield (3) to the wheelhouse.
- Remove the splash shield (3) from the wheelhouse.
- Install the splash shields (3) to the wheelhouse.
- Install the bolt (2) in order to retain the splash shield (3) to the wheelhouse and tighten to 4 N.m (36 lb in).
- Install the push pin retainers (1) in order to retain the splash shield (3) to the wheelhouse.
- Install the front passenger side tire. Refer to «Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (6-Lug Wheel)»(/chevrolet/express-g1500/2013-2013/remont/wheel-tire-system/#tires-and-wheels__tire-and-wheel-removal-and-installation) , «Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation (8-Lug Wheel)»(/chevrolet/express-g1500/2013-2013/remont/wheel-tire-system/#tires-and-wheels__tire-and-wheel-removal-and-installation) .
- Remove the hitch to frame mounting bolts and the nuts.
- Remove the hitch from the vehicle.
- Install the hitch to the vehicle.
- Install the hitch to frame mounting nuts and the bolts and tighten to 88 N.m (65 lb ft).
