HORN SWITCH REPLACEMENT

WARNINGWhen performing service on or near the SIR components or the SIR wiring, the SIR system must be disabled. Refer to DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM . Failure to observe the correct procedure could cause deployment of the SIR components, personal injury, or unnecessary SIR system repairs.

  1. Disable the SIR system. Refer to «DISABLING SYSTEM»(/chevrolet/chevy-express-h2500/2003-2003/remont/airbag/#supplemental-inflatable-restraint-system__disabling-system) .
  2. Remove the inflator module. Refer to «REMOVAL & INSTALLATION (DRIVER-SIDE)»(/chevrolet/chevy-express-h2500/2003-2003/remont/airbag/#supplemental-inflatable-restraint-system__removal-installation-driver-side) .
  3. Remove the horn plunger from the steering column by pressing inward to the stop and rotating horn plunger 90 degrees.
  4. Remove the horn contact plate retaining screws from the steering wheel.
  5. Remove the horn plunger from the steering wheel.

  1. Install the horn plunger to the steering wheel. CAUTION: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
  2. Install the horn contact plate retaining screws to the steering wheel. Tighten Tighten the screws to 5.5 N.m (50 lb in).
  3. Install the horn plunger to the steering column.
  4. Install the inflator module. Refer to «REMOVAL & INSTALLATION (DRIVER-SIDE)»(/chevrolet/chevy-express-h2500/2003-2003/remont/airbag/#supplemental-inflatable-restraint-system__removal-installation-driver-side) .
  5. Enable the SIR system. Refer to «ACTIVATING SYSTEM»(/chevrolet/chevy-express-h2500/2003-2003/remont/airbag/#supplemental-inflatable-restraint-system) .
