Starter Removal & Installation Chevrolet Cavalier I

2.0L 4-CYL.

Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove solenoid wires. Remove rear starter support bracket. Remove A/C compressor support rod. Remove starter mounting bolts. Remove starter.

4.3L V6 DIESEL - FRONT WHEEL DRIVE

1. Disconnect negative battery cable(s). Install engine support fixture. (Scheme 1) Raise and support vehicle. Remove left and center engine mount stud nuts. Remove steering intermediate shaft-to-stub shaft pinch bolt. Disconnect shaft from steering gear.
2. Remove 2 front cradle mount bolts and lower cradle enough to gain access to flywheel cover bolts. Remove flywheel cover. Remove starter shield nut at starter.
3. Disconnect solenoid wires. Remove starter attaching bolts. Remove starter. Note number and size of shims for reassembly.

Installing Engine Support Fixture Front wheel drive with 4.3L diesel only. Scheme 1

5.7L V8 (GAS)

Disconnect negative battery cable. Raise and support vehicle. Remove starter bracket nut and flywheel cover. Remove starter mounting bolts. Remove starter.

ALL OTHER ENGINES

Disconnect negative battery cable. Raise and support vehicle. Remove brackets or shields that may interfere with starter removal. Remove starter-to-engine bolts and lower starter. Disconnect solenoid wires. Remove starter.
