DESCRIPTION
Reversible electric motors are located in each door. Each motor contains a circuit breaker and a self-locking gear drive. Individual switches are used for all passenger windows.
Camaro, Corvette, and Firebird use a pair of single switches mounted on the console and no door switches. On all other models, driver's door has a single, 4-button switch or 2 double-button switches. All models are grounded through the master or console switch.
A junction block located on left shroud connects body power accessories to chassis wiring. Power window wiring harness plugs into the accessory block. A 30-amp circuit breaker mounted on fuse panel protects wiring for all power window systems.
OPERATION - CAMARO, CORVETTE & FIREBIRD OPERATION
When the window switch is depressed, current flows through the switch, actuating the motor in one direction. Pressing the switch in the other direction provides power through the other feed wire, reversing the motor. System is grounded behind left side kick panel near upper access hole.
ALL EXCEPT CAMARO, CORVETTE & FIREBIRD
When the window switch is depressed, current flows through the switch, through one feed wire, the motor, and back to the master switch, where it is led to ground through a common ground wire. When switch is pressed in the other direction, current flows through the other feed wire, through the motor, back to the master switch, and to ground.

MODEL IDENTIFICATION
WINDOWS WILL NOT OPERATE
No power at circuit breaker or master switch. Ignition off. Bad ground connection at master switch. Switch defective.
INDIVIDUAL WINDOW DOES NOT OPERATE, ALL OTHERS OPERATE
Defective motor. Open circuit in door. Defective window switch or master switch.
INDIVIDUAL WINDOW DOES NOT OPERATE FROM WINDOW SWITCH, OPERATES FROM MASTER SWITCH
Window switch defective. Open circuit in power feed wire.
CIRCUIT BREAKER TEST
Check power feed to circuit breaker. Test power feed after circuit breaker. Repair as necessary.
MASTER CONTROL SWITCH TEST
Check for power at Pink wire. All other wires should have continuity to ground when switch is in rest position. Check for clean and tight ground connection.
WINDOW CONTROL SWITCH TEST
- Connect one lead of test light to Pink wire in switch connector, and the other end to ground. If light does not glow, check power feed wire. Locate wires to motor.
- Using a jumper wire, connect Pink wire in switch connector to one motor wire. Ground other wire. Motor should operate. Reverse wires and retest. If motor operates properly, replace switch. If not, test motor.
WINDOW MOTOR TEST
Connect power to one motor lead and ground other lead. Reverse connections and retest. If motor does not operate correctly in both directions, replace it.
WINDOW MOTOR (A BODY)
Note. On models not listed, regulator and motor must be removed as an assembly before motor can be removed.
| CAUTION | On some models, motor can be removed separately from regulator only if window is intact and attached to regulator. If not, regulator MUST be removed first. Weight of door glass is needed to neutralize tension of counterbalance spring during motor removal. |
- Remove trim panel and water deflector. Raise window and tape to door frame. Remove lower sash bolts. Punch out center pins. Drill out regulator rivets.
- Move regulator and motor assembly rearward and disconnect motor wiring. With regulator in door, drill out regulator-to-motor rivets and remove motor. To install, lube regulator and reverse removal procedure.
