Disconnect negative battery cable. Drain engine oil. Remove right engine undercover. Remove front exhaust pipe. Remove oil pan.

4-CYLINDER - 2.0L (122") VIN 1

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Raise vehicle, drain crankcase and disconnect exhaust pipe at manifold. Remove A/C brace at starter and A/C bracket (if equipped). Remove flywheel access cover, starter bracket and starter.
  2. Remove A/C brace (if equipped). Support vehicle, remove right support bolts and lower support to facilitate pan removal. Remove automatic transaxle oil filter and extension (if equipped). Remove oil pan bolts and oil pan.

4-CYLINDER - 2.5L (151")

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable, raise vehicle and drain crankcase. On Camaro models, disconnect exhaust pipe at manifold and loosen hanger. Remove engine mount through bolts and raise engine. Remove oil pan bolts and remove pan.
  2. On all other models, remove cradle-to-front engine mount nuts. Disconnect exhaust pipe at manifold and rear transaxle mount. Disconnect starter and remove flywheel access cover.
  3. Remove upper alternator bracket. Install Engine Support (J-28467) and raise engine. Remove lower alternator and engine support bracket. Remove oil pan bolts and pan.

All Models Except Camaro

Disconnect negative battery cable and raise vehicle. Drain crankcase, remove flywheel access cover and starter. Support engine and remove engine mount bolts. Raise engine, remove oil pan bolts and remove pan.

Note. Upon reinstallation of oil pan, timing gear cover bolts should be installed last. Cover bolts are installed at an angle and holes align after other pan bolts are snugged.

Camaro

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove air cleaner and distributor cap. Remove upper half of fan shroud. Raise vehicle and drain crankcase.
  2. Remove flywheel access cover, starter, converter dust cover. Disconnect exhaust pipe at manifold. Remove engine mount through bolts and raise engine. Remove oil pan bolts and pan.

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable and remove air cleaner and fan shroud. Raise vehicle and support vehicle. Drain crankcase. Remove exhaust crossover pipe at manifold and converter.
  2. Remove starter. Remove flywheel cover. Disconnect transmission oil cooler lines at oil pan. Loosen engine mount bolts and remove mounts. Remove oil pan bolts and lower oil pan.
  3. Check that forward crankshaft throw and/or counter balance weight are not extended downward so as to block oil pan removal. Turn crankshaft, as necessary, to put throw on horizontal plane. Raise engine and remove oil pan.
  1. Disconnect negative battery cable and remove air cleaner and fan shroud. Remove upper fan shroud. Raise vehicle and drain crankcase. Remove cruise control servo bracket (if equipped).
  2. Remove Air Injection Reaction (AIR) hose-to-converter pipe. Remove AIR pipe-to-exhaust manifold. Remove the exhaust crossover pipe at manifold and converter. Remove starter and flywheel access cover. Disconnect transmission lines at oil pan. Remove engine mount through bolts.
  3. Remove oil pan bolts and lower pan. Position front crankshaft throw and/or counterweight on horizontal plane so it does not interfere with oil pan removal. Raise engine, reinstall through bolts and remove oil pan.
  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove air cleaner, fan shroud, and distributor cap. Raise vehicle and drain crankcase. Disconnect exhaust pipe at manifold, AIR pipe clamp, and converter hanger bolts.
  2. Remove front starter brace, starter and flywheel access cover. On models with manual transmission, it may be necessary to remove oil filter, to remove flywheel cover bolts.
  3. Remove engine mount through bolts and oil pan bolts. Raise engine and lower pan. Position front crankshaft throw and/or counterweights as to clear oil pan, and remove pan.
