INTRODUCTION
The automatic transmission shift lock control is a safety device that prevents an inadvertent shift out of Park when the ignition switch is ON. The driver must press the brake pedal before moving the gearshift lever out of the Park position. The system consists of the following components
- Shift lock solenoid (also known as "BTSI solenoid" or "actuator").
- Shift lock control switch (stoplamp switch).
- Park/Neutral Position (PNP) switch.
With the ignition switch in the ON position, battery positive voltage is supplied to the PNP switch. When the transmission is in Park, the contacts in the PNP switch are closed. This allows current to flow through the switch to the stoplamp switch. The circuit continues through the normally closed switch to the shift lock solenoid. The shift lock solenoid is permanently grounded. This energizes the shift lock solenoid, mechanically locking the shift linkage in the Park position. When the driver presses the brake pedal, the contacts in the stoplamp switch open causing the shift lock solenoid to de-energize. This allows the gearshift lever to move from the Park position.
STEERING COLUMN ELECTRIC PARK LOCK (FLOOR SHIFT ONLY)
If the vehicle is equipped with a floor-mounted console gear shifter, an added safety feature is an electric park lock system in the steering column. The electric park lock system prevents the steering wheel from being locked when the transmission is in gear and the vehicle is moving. The column ignition lock system consists of a steering column electric park lock and a park position switch, that is located in the stoplamp switch. The park key lock actuator contains a spring-loaded pin that mechanically prevents the ignition key cylinder from being turned to the LOCK position when the transmission is not in Park. If vehicle power is lost or the transmission is not in Park, the operator will not be able to turn the ignition key to the LOCK position and will not be able to remove the ignition key from the column.
SHIFT LOCK BYPASS PROCEDURE (FLOOR SHIFT ONLY)
In the event service is required, a park lock solenoid manual release lever is located on the top right side of the floor shift assembly, under the gearshift lever trim boot. To operate the manual release lever, block the wheels and apply the parking brake. Lift the gearshift lever boot to expose the release lever. See FLOOR SHIFT BOOT under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Push the release lever towards the front of the vehicle and move the gearshift lever to the Neutral position.
DIAGNOSTIC STARTING POINT
Begin the system diagnosis by reviewing DESCRIPTION & OPERATION . Reviewing the description and operation information will help you determine the correct symptom diagnostic procedure when a malfunction exists. Reviewing the description and operation information will also help you determine if the condition described by the customer is normal operation. See SYMPTOM DIAGNOSIS in order to identify the correct procedure for diagnosing the system and where the procedure is located.
Visual/Physical Inspection
Inspect for aftermarket devices which could affect the operation of the shift lock control system. Inspect easily accessible or visible system components for obvious damage or conditions which could cause the symptom.
Intermittents
Intermittent faulty electrical connections or wiring may be the cause of intermittent conditions. Check for loose, bent or corroded terminals and terminal tension. Check for cut, bare or pinched wiring. Simulate the condition that is potentially causing the intermittent connection, either by wiggling the connections or the wiring, test driving or performing other operations while observing scan tool, DVOM or other testing equipment. TEST A: PARK LOCK SOLENOID INOPERATIVE (FLOOR SHIFT)

- Place the gearshift lever in the Park position. Turn ignition switch to the OFF position. Depress the brake pedal. Attempt to move the gearshift lever out of the Park position. Does the gearshift lever move out of the Park position? If so, go to next step. If not, check for intermittent condition. See «SYMPTOM DIAGNOSIS»(/chevrolet/blazer/s15-1998-2005/remont/automatic-trans/#shift-interlock-systems) under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
- Disconnect the park lock solenoid. See «STEERING COLUMN PARK LOCK SOLENOID (FLOOR SHIFT)»(/chevrolet/blazer/s15-1998-2005/remont/automatic-trans/#shift-interlock-systems__steering-column-park-lock-solenoid-floor) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Press and hold the brake pedal. Attempt to move the gearshift lever out of the Park position. Does the gearshift lever move out of the Park position? If so, go to next step. If not, go to step 5 .
- Inspect park lock solenoid for poor connections. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step 7 . If not, go to step 6 .
- Repair the stoplamp switch voltage supply circuit (Light Green/Black wire) for a short to voltage. After repairs, go to step 7 .
- Replace the park lock solenoid. See «FLOOR SHIFT CONTROL»(/chevrolet/blazer/s15-1998-2005/remont/automatic-trans/#shift-interlock-systems) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to next step.
- Operate the system in order to verify the repair. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, system is okay. If not, go to step 2 .
TEST B: GEARSHIFT LEVER DOES NOT MOVE WITH BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSED (COLUMN SHIFT)

- Turn ignition switch to the ON position. Depress the brake pedal. Attempt to move the gearshift lever out of the Park position. Does the gearshift lever move out of the Park position? If so, check for an intermittent condition. See «SYMPTOM DIAGNOSIS»(/chevrolet/blazer/s15-1998-2005/remont/automatic-trans/#shift-interlock-systems) under TROUBLE SHOOTING. If not, go to next step.
- Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position. Disconnect the stoplamp switch. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. Press and hold the brake pedal. Attempt to move the gearshift lever out of the Park position. Does the gearshift lever move out of the Park position? If so, go to step 5 . If not, go to next step.
- Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position. Disconnect the shift lock solenoid. See «SHIFT LOCK SOLENOID (COLUMN SHIFT)»(/chevrolet/blazer/s15-1998-2005/remont/automatic-trans/#shift-interlock-systems) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. Press and hold the brake pedal. Attempt to move the gearshift lever out of the Park position. Does the gearshift lever move out of the Park position? If so, go to step 7 . If not, go to step 6 .
- Inspect the stoplamp switch for poor connections. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step 10 . If not, go to step 8 .
- Inspect the shift lock solenoid for poor connections. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step 10 . If not, go to step 9 .
- Repair the short to voltage in the shift lock solenoid voltage supply circuit (Dark Green/White wire). After repairs, go to step 10 .
- Replace the stoplamp switch. See «STOPLAMP SWITCH»(/chevrolet/blazer/s15-1998-2005/remont/automatic-trans/#shift-interlock-systems) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to step 10 .
- Replace the shift lock solenoid. See «SHIFT LOCK SOLENOID (COLUMN SHIFT)»(/chevrolet/blazer/s15-1998-2005/remont/automatic-trans/#shift-interlock-systems) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to next step.
- Operate the system in order to verify the repair. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, system is okay. If not, go to step 2 .
TEST C: GEARSHIFT LEVER DOES NOT MOVE WITH BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSED (FLOOR SHIFT)

- Turn ignition switch to the ON position. Depress the brake pedal. Attempt to move the gearshift lever out of the Park position. Does the gearshift lever move out of the Park position? If so, check for an intermittent condition. See «SYMPTOM DIAGNOSIS»(/chevrolet/blazer/s15-1998-2005/remont/automatic-trans/#shift-interlock-systems) under TROUBLE SHOOTING. If not, go to next step.
- Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position. Disconnect the stoplamp switch. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. Press and hold the brake pedal. Attempt to move the gearshift lever out of the Park position. Does the gearshift lever move out of the Park position? If so, go to step 10 . If not, go to next step.
- Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position. Disconnect the shift lock solenoid. See «FLOOR SHIFT CONTROL»(/chevrolet/blazer/s15-1998-2005/remont/automatic-trans/#shift-interlock-systems) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. Press and hold the brake pedal. Attempt to move the gearshift lever out of the Park position. Does the gearshift lever move out of the Park position? If so, go to step 13 . If not, go to next step.
- Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position. Connect a test light between ground and the stoplamp switch voltage supply circuit (Light Green/Black wire) at the park lock solenoid. See «STEERING COLUMN PARK LOCK SOLENOID (FLOOR SHIFT)»(/chevrolet/blazer/s15-1998-2005/remont/automatic-trans/#shift-interlock-systems__steering-column-park-lock-solenoid-floor) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. Does the test light illuminate? If so, go to next step. If not, go to step 7 .
- Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position. Connect a test light between the stoplamp switch voltage supply circuit (Light Green/Black wire) and the ground circuit (Black wire) at the park lock solenoid. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. Does the test light illuminate? If so, go to step 11 . If not, go to step 14 .
- Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position. Connect a test light between ground and the PNP switch park signal circuit (Light Green wire) at the BTSI fuse. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. Does the test light illuminate? If so, go to step 15 . If not, go to next step.
- Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position. Connect a test light between ground and the ignition feed circuit (Pink wire) at the PNP switch. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. Does the test light illuminate? If so, go to next step. If not go to step 16 .
- Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position. Connect a test light between ground and the park signal circuit (Light Green wire) at the PNP switch. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. Does the test light illuminate? If so, go to step 17 . If not, go to step 12 .
- Inspect the stoplamp switch for poor connections. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step 21 . If not, go to step 18 .
- Inspect the shift lock solenoid for poor connections. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step 21 . If not go to step 19 .
- Inspect for proper PNP switch adjustment. See appropriate AUTOMATIC article in AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS. Inspect the PNP switch for poor connections. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step 21 . If not, go to step 20 .
- Repair the short to voltage in the shift lock solenoid voltage supply circuit (Dark Green/White wire). After repairs, go to step 21 .
- Repair the open in the shift lock solenoid ground circuit (Black wire). After repairs, go to step 21 .
- Repair the open in the stoplamp switch voltage supply circuit (Light Green/Black wire). After repairs, go to step 21 .
- Repair the open in the PNP switch ignition feed circuit (Pink wire). After repairs, go to step 21 .
- Repair the open in the PNP switch park signal circuit (Light Green wire). After repairs, go to step 21 .
- Replace the stoplamp switch. See «STOPLAMP SWITCH»(/chevrolet/blazer/s15-1998-2005/remont/automatic-trans/#shift-interlock-systems) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to step 21 .
- Replace the shift lock solenoid assembly. See «FLOOR SHIFT CONTROL»(/chevrolet/blazer/s15-1998-2005/remont/automatic-trans/#shift-interlock-systems) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to step 21 .
- Replace the PNP switch. See appropriate AUTOMATIC article in AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS. After repairs, go to next step.
- Operate the system in order to verify the repair. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, system is okay. If not, go to step 2 .
TEST D: GEARSHIFT LEVER CAN BE MOVED WITHOUT BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSED (COLUMN SHIFT)

- Did you review the DESCRIPTION and OPERATION and perform the necessary inspections? If so, go to next step. If not, see «DESCRIPTION & OPERATION»(/chevrolet/blazer/s15-1998-2005/remont/automatic-trans/#shift-interlock-systems__description-operation) .
- Apply the parking brake and block the wheels. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. Attempt to move the gearshift lever out of the Park position. Does the gearshift lever move out of the Park position? If so, go to next step. If not, condition is intermittent. See «SYMPTOM DIAGNOSIS»(/chevrolet/blazer/s15-1998-2005/remont/automatic-trans/#shift-interlock-systems) under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
- Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position. Ensure gearshift lever is in the Park position. Connect a test light between ground and the stoplamp switch voltage supply circuit (Light Green/Black wire) at the BTSI fuse. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. Does the test light illuminate? If so, go to next step. If not, go to step 8 .
- Connect a test light between ground and the stoplamp switch voltage supply circuit (Light Green/Black wire). Does the test light illuminate? If so, go to next step. If not, go to step 14 .
- Connect a test light between ground and stoplamp switch output circuit (Dark Green/White wire). Press and release the brake pedal several times. Does the test light turn ON and OFF with the brake pedal? If so, go to next step. If not, go to step 11 .
- Connect a test light between ground and the voltage supply circuit (Dark Green/White wire) at the shift lock solenoid. Does the test light illuminate? If so, go to next step. If not, go to step 15 .
- Test the shift lock solenoid ground circuit (Black wire) for an open or high resistance. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step 20 . If not, go to step 12 .
- Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position. Disconnect the PNP switch harness connector. Connect a test light between ground and the ignition feed circuit (Pink wire) at the PNP switch. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. Does the test light illuminate? If so, go to next step. If not, go to step 13 .
- Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position. Connect a 10-amp fused jumper between the ignition feed circuit (Pink wire) and the park signal circuit (Light Green wire) at the PNP switch. Connect a test light between ground and the stoplamp switch voltage supply circuit (Light Green/Black wire) at the BTSI fuse. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. Does the test light illuminate? If so, go to next step. If not, go to step 16 .
- Inspect for proper PNP switch adjustment. See appropriate AUTOMATIC article in AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS. Inspect the PNP switch for poor connections. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step 20 . If not, go to step 17 .
- Inspect the stoplamp switch for poor connections. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step 20 . If not, go to step 18 .
- Inspect the shift lock solenoid for poor connections. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step 20 . If not, go to step 19 .
- Repair the open or short in the PNP switch ignition feed circuit (Pink wire). After repairs, go to step 20 .
- Repair the open or short in the stoplamp switch voltage supply circuit (Light Green/Black wire). After repairs, go to step 20 .
- Repair the open in the shift lock solenoid voltage supply circuit (Dark Green/White wire). After repairs, go to step 20 .
- Repair the open or short in the PNP switch park signal circuit (Light Green wire). After repairs, go to step 20 .
- Replace the PNP switch. See appropriate AUTOMATIC article in AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSIONS. After repairs, go to step 20 .
- Replace the stoplamp switch. See «STOPLAMP SWITCH»(/chevrolet/blazer/s15-1998-2005/remont/automatic-trans/#shift-interlock-systems) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to step 20 .
- Replace the shift lock solenoid. See «SHIFT LOCK SOLENOID (COLUMN SHIFT)»(/chevrolet/blazer/s15-1998-2005/remont/automatic-trans/#shift-interlock-systems) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- Operate the system in order to verify the repair. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, system is okay. If not, go to step 2 .
TEST E: GEARSHIFT LEVER CAN BE MOVED WITHOUT BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSED (FLOOR SHIFT)

- Did you review the DESCRIPTION and OPERATION and perform the necessary inspections? If so, go to next step. If not, see «DESCRIPTION & OPERATION»(/chevrolet/blazer/s15-1998-2005/remont/automatic-trans/#shift-interlock-systems__description-operation) .
- Apply the parking brake and block the wheels. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position. Attempt to move the gearshift lever out of the Park position. Does the gearshift lever move out of the Park position? If so, go to next step. If not, condition is intermittent. See «SYMPTOM DIAGNOSIS»(/chevrolet/blazer/s15-1998-2005/remont/automatic-trans/#shift-interlock-systems) under TROUBLE SHOOTING.
- Place gearshift lever in the Park position. Turn the ignition switch to the OFF position. Press and hold the brake pedal. Attempt to move the gearshift lever out of the Park position. Does the gearshift lever move out of the Park position? If so, see «TEST A: PARK LOCK SOLENOID INOPERATIVE (FLOOR SHIFT)»(/chevrolet/blazer/s15-1998-2005/remont/automatic-trans/#shift-interlock-systems__test-a-park-lock-solenoid-inoperative) . If not, go to next step.
- Connect a test light between ground and the stoplamp switch voltage supply circuit (Light Green/Black wire). Does the test light illuminate? If so, go to next step. If not, go to step 10 .
- Connect a test light between ground and the stoplamp switch output circuit (Dark Green/White wire). Press and release the brake pedal several times. Does the test light turn ON and OFF with the brake pedal? If so, go to next step. If not, go to step 8 .
- Connect a test light between ground and the voltage supply circuit (Dark Green/White wire) at the shift lock solenoid. Does the test light illuminate? If so, go to next step. If not, go to step 11 .
- Test the shift lock solenoid ground circuit (Black wire) for an open or high resistance. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step 14 . If not, go to step 9 .
- Inspect the stoplamp switch for poor connections. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step 14 . If not, go to step 12 .
- Inspect the shift lock solenoid for poor connections. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, go to step 14 . If not, go to step 13 .
- Repair the open or short in the stoplamp switch voltage supply circuit (Light Green/Black wire). After repairs, go to step 14 .
- Repair the open in the shift lock solenoid voltage supply circuit (Dark Green/White wire). After repairs, go to step 14 .
- Replace the stoplamp switch. See «STOPLAMP SWITCH»(/chevrolet/blazer/s15-1998-2005/remont/automatic-trans/#shift-interlock-systems) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. After repairs, go to step 14 .
- Replace the shift lock solenoid. See «FLOOR SHIFT CONTROL»(/chevrolet/blazer/s15-1998-2005/remont/automatic-trans/#shift-interlock-systems) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
- Operate the system in order to verify the repair. Did you find and correct the condition? If so, system is okay. If not, go to step 2 .
ADJUSTMENTS

SHIFT LOCK SOLENOID (COLUMN SHIFT)
Note. Floor shift models are not adjustable.
Note. This procedure is accomplished with all necessary trim removed. For additional information, see appropriate procedure under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION .
Shift lock solenoid is located on steering column. (Scheme 1)- (Scheme 3). Pull locking tab outward from adjusting block. (Scheme 4) Press on adjusting block to disengage adjusting teeth. Slide adjuster block as far away from actuator as possible. Lock adjuster block in place by pushing inward on tab. Ensure proper system operation.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

Removal
- Remove the shift handle retaining clip at the front of the handle. (Scheme 5) Remove the shift handle from the gearshift lever.
- Open the console lid. Remove the console compartment inserts. (Scheme 6) Remove the transmission select switch (if equipped). (Scheme 7)
- Remove the nuts that retain the rear of the console. Remove the cup holder insert.
- Remove the screws that retain the front of the console to the vehicle. (Scheme 8) Remove the console from the vehicle.
Installation
- Install the console to the vehicle. Install the screws that retain the front of the console. (Scheme 8) Tighten the screws to 63 INCH lbs. (7 N.m).
- Install the cup holder insert. Install the nuts that retain the rear of the console. Tighten the nuts to 89 INCH lbs. (10 N.m).
- Install the transmission select switch (if equipped). (Scheme 7) Install the console compartment insert. (Scheme 6)
- Install the console compartment insert screws. Tighten the nuts to 17 INCH lbs. (1.9 N.m). Install the shift handle to the gearshift lever. (Scheme 5) Install the shift handle retaining clip at the front of the handle.

Remove the retainer securing the shift boot to the console trim. (Scheme 9) Remove the shift boot from the console trim by lightly prying on the boot tabs.
Install the shift boot to the console trim. Install the retainer securing the shift boot to the console trim. (Scheme 9)

- Remove the gearshift lever handle and boot assembly. See «FLOOR SHIFT BOOT»(/chevrolet/blazer/s15-1998-2005/remont/automatic-trans/#shift-interlock-systems).
- Remove the shift control cover. (Scheme 10) Remove floor console, if equipped. Remove the retainer and shift cable from shift control. (Scheme 11)
- Remove the nuts securing the shift controller to the floor panel. (Scheme 12) Remove shift lock solenoid connector. (Scheme 13) Remove the floor shift control from the floor panel.
- Install the floor shift control to the floor panel. Install the nuts securing the shift controller to the floor panel. Tighten the nuts to 18 INCH lbs. (25 N.m). (Scheme 12) Install shift lock solenoid connector. (Scheme 13)
- Install the shift cable onto shift control. Install cable retainer clip. (Scheme 11)
- Install the shift control cover. Install floor console, if equipped. See appropriate procedure.
- Install the gearshift lever handle and boot assembly.

- Set the parking brake. Block the wheels. Remove the left-side instrument panel sound insulator. See «LEFT INSULATOR PANEL»(/chevrolet/blazer/s15-1998-2005/remont/automatic-trans/#shift-interlock-systems).
- Remove the lower instrument panel sound insulator. See «LOWER INSULATOR PANEL»(/chevrolet/blazer/s15-1998-2005/remont/automatic-trans/#shift-interlock-systems). Release the parking brake release cable from the parking brake lever.
- Remove the screw that retains the courtesy light to the knee bolster. (Scheme 14)
- Remove the screws that retain the knee bolster trim panel to the instrument panel. (Scheme 15) Remove the knee bolster trim panel from the vehicle.

- Install the knee bolster trim panel to the vehicle. Install the screws that retain the knee bolster trim panel to the instrument panel. Tighten the Torx® screws to 80 INCH lbs. (9 N.m). Tighten the hex head screws to 17 INCH lbs. (1.9 N.m).
- Install the screw that retains the courtesy light to the knee bolster. (Scheme 14) Install the parking brake release cable to the parking brake lever.
- Install the lower instrument panel sound insulator. See «LOWER INSULATOR PANEL»(/chevrolet/blazer/s15-1998-2005/remont/automatic-trans/#shift-interlock-systems). Install the left-side instrument panel sound insulator. See «LEFT INSULATOR PANEL»(/chevrolet/blazer/s15-1998-2005/remont/automatic-trans/#shift-interlock-systems).
- Remove the screws that retain the Data Link Connector (DLC) to the instrument panel sound insulator. Feed the DLC through the hole in the sound insulator. Remove the screws that retain the instrument panel sound insulator to the knee bolster and the cowl panel. (Scheme 16)
- Disconnect the electrical connectors from the remote control door lock receiver module. Remove and retain the remote control door lock receiver module from the instrument panel sound insulator, if equipped.
- Install the remote control door lock receiver module to the instrument panel sound insulator. Connect the electrical connector to the remote door lock receiver module. Install the screw that retains the instrument panel sound insulator to the cowl panel. Tighten the screw to 17 INCH lbs. (1.9 N.m).
- Install the screws that retain the instrument panel sound insulator to the knee bolster. (Scheme 16) Tighten the screws to 17 INCH lbs. (1.9 N.m). Feed the DLC through the hole in the instrument panel sound insulator. Install the screws that retain the DLC to the instrument panel sound insulator. Tighten the screws to 21 INCH lbs. (2.4 N.m).

- Remove the screws that retain the instrument panel sound insulator to the knee bolster, instrument panel, heater assembly and the floor duct.
- Remove the instrument panel sound insulator from the vehicle. (Scheme 17) Disconnect the electrical connector from the accessory power outlet, if equipped.
- Connect the electrical connector to the accessory power outlet, if equipped.
- Install the instrument panel sound insulator to the vehicle. (Scheme 17) Install the screws that retain the instrument panel sound insulator to the knee bolster, instrument panel, and the floor duct. Tighten the screws to 13 INCH lbs. (1.5 N.m).
- Install the screw that retains the instrument panel sound insulator to the heater assembly. Tighten the screw to 13 INCH lbs. (1.5 N.m).

Note. Shift lock solenoid is also referred to as "BTSI solenoid" or "shift lock actuator".
- Disable the SIR system. See appropriate AIR BAG DEACTIVATION PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION. Remove the steering column trim covers. See «STEERING COLUMN PARK LOCK SOLENOID (FLOOR SHIFT)»(/chevrolet/blazer/s15-1998-2005/remont/automatic-trans/#shift-interlock-systems__steering-column-park-lock-solenoid-floor).
- Disconnect the shift lock solenoid harness connector. Put the shift lever clevis into the Neutral position. (Scheme 1)
- Use a small screwdriver to pry the shift lock solenoid away from the steering column jacket and the cable shift cam assembly. Remove the shift lock solenoid. (Scheme 3)
- Firmly install the shift lock solenoid onto the steering column jacket and the cable shift cam assembly. Connect the shift lock solenoid harness connector.
- Adjust the shift lock solenoid (with the shift lever clevis in the Neutral position) as follows: Pull out the tab (1) on the adjuster block side (2) of the shift lock solenoid. (Scheme 4) Press on the adjuster block (2) to compress the internal adjuster spring which disengages the adjuster teeth. Slide the adjuster block (2) as far away from the solenoid as possible. (Scheme 4) Lock the adjuster block (2) in place by pushing in on the tab (1). (Scheme 4)
- Inspect the shift lock solenoid for the following operation: The shift lock solenoid must lock the shift lever clevis when the shift lever clevis is placed in the Park position. Turn the ignition switch to the ON position and depress the brake pedal to move the gearshift lever out of the Park position. The actuator should energize. (Scheme 4) Readjust the shift lock solenoid, if needed.
- Install the steering column trim covers. Enable the SIR system. See appropriate AIR BAG DEACTIVATION PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION.
STEERING COLUMN PARK LOCK SOLENOID (FLOOR SHIFT)
| CAUTION | Place the steering column in the center position with ignition switch in LOCK position. Failure to do so may result in damage to SIR coil. |
- Remove the tilt knob. Use a small screwdriver to pull the filler plug out of the bottom of the lower trim cover. (Scheme 18) Use the screwdriver to push up on the manual override of the electric park lock (1). (Scheme 19)
- Turn the key to the LOCK position. Remove the key. Remove the 2 pan head tapping screws (1) from the lower trim cover (2). (Scheme 20) Remove the lower trim cover (2) from the upper trim cover. (Scheme 21)
- Tilt the lower trim cover down. Slide the lower trim cover backward in order to disengage the locking tabs. Remove the 2 Torx® head screws (1) from the upper trim cover (2). (Scheme 22)
- Remove the upper trim cover (2) from the steering column. Remove the black connector (2) from the electric park lock (3). (Scheme 23) Remove the Torx® head screw (1) from the electric park lock (3). (Scheme 23)
- Press on the electric park lock (2) with a small screwdriver and at the same time pull the electric park lock (2) out of the electronic lock module assembly (1).
- Install the electric park lock (2) into the electronic lock module assembly (1). (Scheme 23) Screw the Torx® head screw into the electric park lock. Tighten the Torx® head screw to 13 INCH lbs. (1.5 N.m). Install the black connector (2) into the electric park lock (3). (Scheme 23)
- Install the upper trim cover (2) onto the steering column. (Scheme 22) Screw the 2 Torx® head screws into the upper trim cover. Tighten the 2 Torx® head screws to 13 INCH lbs. (1.5 N.m).
- Install the lower trim cover (2) onto the upper trim cover. (Scheme 21) Match the tab slots on the lower trim cover with the locking tabs on the upper trim cover.
- Tilt the lower trim cover up. Slide the lower trim cover forward until the locking tabs snap into the tab slots. (Scheme 21)
- Screw the 2 pan head tapping screws (1) into the lower trim cover (2). Tighten the 2 pan head tapping screws to 31 INCH lbs. (3.5 N.m). (Scheme 20) Install the tilt knob into the lower trim cover.

Remove the pushrod retainer from the brake pedal pin. (Scheme 24) Remove the stoplamp switch and the pushrod from the brake pedal pin. (Scheme 25) Disconnect the electrical connector from the stoplamp switch. (Scheme 26)
Install the electrical connector to the stoplamp switch. (Scheme 26) Install the stoplamp switch and the pushrod to the brake pedal pin. (Scheme 25) Install the pushrod retainer on the brake pedal pin. The retainer will snap into place. (Scheme 24)
