DIAGNOSTIC CODE INDEX

Diagnostic Starting Point - Secondary and Configurable Customer Controls

Begin the system diagnosis with the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle (with HP2) or Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle (without HP2) . The Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle will provide the following information

  1. The identification of the control modules which command the system
  2. The ability of the control modules to communicate through the serial data circuit
  3. The identification of any stored DTCs and their status

The use of the Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle will identify the correct procedure for diagnosing the system and where the procedure is located.

Diagnostic Instructions

  1. Perform the «Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle (with HP2)»(/chevrolet/avalanche/ii-2006-2013/remont/oem-general-information/#vehicle-diagnostic-information-2-of-2__diagnostic-system-check-vehicle-with) or «Diagnostic System Check - Vehicle (without HP2)»(/chevrolet/avalanche/ii-2006-2013/remont/oem-general-information/#vehicle-diagnostic-information-2-of-2__diagnostic-system-check-vehicle-without) prior to using this diagnostic procedure.

Circuit/System Description

The body control module (BCM) supplies voltage to the audio steering wheel control switches and monitors the return signal. Each switch state is associated to a set resistance value and when pressed a specific voltage drop occurs across the resistor unique to the switch. The BCM identifies the switch selection and activates the feature.

Conditions for Running the DTC

  1. Battery voltage is between 9-16 volts
  2. The ignition is ON.

Conditions for Setting the DTC

B1529 03

  1. The BCM detects a short to ground in the B+ voltage reference circuit.
  2. The above condition is present for greater than 30 seconds.

B1529 07

  1. The BCM detects a short to voltage in the B+ voltage reference circuit.
  2. The above condition is present for greater than 30 seconds.

Action Taken When the DTC Sets

The BCM will ignore switch inputs.

Conditions for Clearing the DTC

  1. The condition responsible for setting the DTC no longer exists.
  2. A history DTC will clear once 100 consecutive malfunction free ignition cycles have occurred.

Steering Wheel Controls Description and Operation

The steering wheel control switches duplicate the function of the primary controls of the associated component, through a network of multiple momentary contact switches and a series of resistors. The body control module (BCM) supplies voltage to the switches and monitors the return signal for when a switch is pressed, a specific voltage drop occurs. The BCM identifies the one selected, then sends a serial data message that is received by the component controlled, activating the feature.

This section is intended to diagnosis the circuits between the BCM and the steering wheel control switches. If the primary control for the device is inoperative, refer to the appropriate section for the component the steering wheel control switch is functioning.
