Removal Procedure

  1. Install the engine support fixture. Refer to «Engine Support Fixture»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/mechanical/#engine-mechanical-28l-or-30l-repair-instructions-on-vehicle-1-of-2) .
  2. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to «Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/hoistjack/#general-information) .
  3. Remove the front wheels. Refer to «Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/wheel-tire-system/#tires-and-wheels) .
  4. Remove the radiator air lower deflector. Refer to «Radiator Air Lower Deflector Replacement»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/exterior-body-panels/#bumpers-and-fascia) .
  5. Remove the two steering gear retaining bolts.
  6. Using mechanics wire suspend the steering gear from the powertrain.
  7. Remove the left catalytic converter and pipe assembly. Refer to «Catalytic Converter Replacement - Left Side (LF1)»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/exhaust/#engine-exhaust-system) .
  8. On AWD vehicles, remove the propeller shaft. Refer to «Propeller Shaft Replacement»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/driveshaft-universal-joints/#propeller-shaft) .
  9. Remove the front transmission mount through bolt (1).
  10. Remove the rear transmission mount through bolt (1).
  11. Remove the lower ball joint fastener (2).
  12. Separate the lower ball joints from the steering knuckles (1). Refer to «Lower Control Arm Replacement»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/suspension-front/#front-suspension-system) .
  13. Remove the electrical harness and the power steering cooler line from the clips in the frame.
  14. Mark the position of the support to the body with spray paint.
  15. Carefully lower the vehicle until the frame contacts the support table.
  16. Remove the reinforcement bolts.
  17. Remove the two rear frame-to-body bolts.
  18. Remove the two front frame-to-body bolts.
  19. Carefully raise the vehicle to separate the frame from the body.
  20. If replacing the frame, transfer components as necessary.

Installation Procedure

  1. Carefully lower the vehicle until contacts the frame assembly.
  2. Position the rear support assembly to the vehicle using the previous paint markings.
  3. Install the 2 rear frame to body bolts and tighten to 100 N.m (74 lb ft) plus 90 degrees.
  4. Install the 2 front frame to body bolts and tighten to 100 N.m (74 lb ft) plus 90 degrees.
  5. Install the reinforcement bolts and tighten to 45 N.m (33 lb ft) plus 30 degrees.
  6. Remove the mechanics wire and install the steering gear with NEW bolts and tighten to 60 N.m (44 lb ft) plus 120 degrees.
  7. Install the electrical harness and the power steering cooler line to the clips in the frame.
  8. Connect the ball joint studs to the steering knuckles (1). Refer to «Lower Control Arm Replacement»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/suspension-front/#front-suspension-system) .
  9. Install the ball joint fastener (2) to the ball joint and tighten to 30 N.m (22 lb ft) plus an additional 130 degrees.
  10. Install the rear transmission mount through bolt (1) and tighten to 100 N.m (74 lb ft).
  11. Install the front transmission mount through bolt (1) and nut. Tighten to 100 N.m (74 lb ft).
  12. On AWD vehicles, install the propeller shaft. Refer to «Propeller Shaft Replacement»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/driveshaft-universal-joints/#propeller-shaft) .
  13. Install the left catalytic converter and pipe assembly. Refer to «Catalytic Converter Replacement - Left Side (LF1)»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/exhaust/#engine-exhaust-system) .
  14. Remove the engine support fixture.
  15. Install the radiator air lower deflector. Refer to «Radiator Air Lower Deflector Replacement»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/exterior-body-panels/#bumpers-and-fascia) .
  16. Install the front wheels. Refer to «Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/wheel-tire-system/#tires-and-wheels) .
  17. Lower the vehicle.
  18. Check the wheel alignment.
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to «Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/hoistjack/#general-information) .
  2. Remove the tires and wheels. Refer to «Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/wheel-tire-system/#tires-and-wheels) .
  3. Remove the exhaust muffler. Refer to «Exhaust Muffler Replacement (LF1)»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/exhaust/#engine-exhaust-system) or «Exhaust Muffler Replacement (LAU)»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/exhaust/#engine-exhaust-system) .
  4. Remove the left park brake cable from the support. Refer to «Parking Brake Rear Cable Replacement - Left Side (FWD)»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/parking-brake-system/#parking-brake-system) or «Parking Brake Rear Cable Replacement - Left Side (AWD)»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/parking-brake-system/#parking-brake-system) .
  5. Remove the right park brake cable from the support. Refer to «Parking Brake Rear Cable Replacement - Right Side (FWD)»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/parking-brake-system/#parking-brake-system) or «Parking Brake Rear Cable Replacement - Right Side (AWD)»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/parking-brake-system/#parking-brake-system) .
  6. Remove shock absorber lower fastener. Refer to «Shock Absorber Replacement»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) .
  7. Remove rear wheel speed sensor. Refer to «Rear Wheel Speed Sensor Replacement»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/anti-locktraction-control/#antilock-brake-system-with-traction-control-system-stability-control-system) .
  8. Remove the lower control arms from the vehicle. Refer to «Rear Axle Lower Control Arm Replacement»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) .
  9. Remove the upper control arms from the vehicle. Refer to «Rear Axle Upper Control Arm Replacement»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) .
  10. Remove reinforcement arm bolts to body (1).
  11. Remove the outer fastener adjustment links. Refer to «Adjust Link Replacement»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) .
  12. Remove the rear wheel drive shafts. Refer to «Rear Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/axle-shafts/#wheel-drive-shafts) .
  13. Remove the differential carrier assembly. Refer to «Differential Carrier Assembly Replacement»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/differentials-drive-axles/#rear-drive-axle) .
  14. Remove the stabilizer bar. Refer to «Stabilizer Shaft Replacement»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) .
  15. Position a transmission jack under the rear support and firmly secure the support to the jack with straps.
  16. Mark up support position to body with spray paint.
  17. Remove the 4 rear support to body bolts (1).
  18. Remove the rear support assembly from the vehicle.
  19. Remove the inner fastener from adjustments links. Refer to «Adjust Link Replacement»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) .
  20. With the aid of an assistant, remove the rear support from the transmission jack and place it on the floor.
  1. With the aid of an assistant, position the rear support onto the transmission jack and firmly secure the support to the jack with straps.
  2. Install the inner fastener to adjustment links. Refer to «Adjust Link Replacement»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) .
  3. Position the rear support assembly to the vehicle.
  4. Install 4 NEW rear support to body bolts (1) and tighten to 90 N.m (66 lb ft) + 85 degrees.
  5. Install the differential carrier assembly. Refer to «Differential Carrier Assembly Replacement»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/differentials-drive-axles/#rear-drive-axle) .
  6. Install the rear wheel drive shafts. Refer to «Rear Wheel Drive Shaft Replacement»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/axle-shafts/#wheel-drive-shafts) .
  7. Install the outer fastener adjustment links. Refer to «Adjust Link Replacement»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) .
  8. Install NEW reinforcement arm bolts (1) to body and tighten to 58 N.m (43 lb ft).
  9. Install upper control arms. Refer to «Rear Axle Upper Control Arm Replacement»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) .
  10. Install lower control arms. Refer to «Rear Axle Lower Control Arm Replacement»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) .
  11. Install the Rear wheel speed sensor. Refer to «Rear Wheel Speed Sensor Replacement»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/anti-locktraction-control/#antilock-brake-system-with-traction-control-system-stability-control-system) .
  12. Install shock absorber lower fastener. Refer to «Shock Absorber Replacement»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) .
  13. Install the stabilizer bar. Refer to «Stabilizer Shaft Replacement»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) .
  14. Install the left park brake cable to the support. Refer to «Parking Brake Rear Cable Replacement - Left Side (FWD)»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/parking-brake-system/#parking-brake-system) or «Parking Brake Rear Cable Replacement - Left Side (AWD)»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/parking-brake-system/#parking-brake-system) .
  15. Install the right park brake cable to the support. Refer to «Parking Brake Rear Cable Replacement - Right Side (FWD)»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/parking-brake-system/#parking-brake-system) or «Parking Brake Rear Cable Replacement - Right Side (AWD)»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/parking-brake-system/#parking-brake-system) .
  16. Install the exhaust muffler. Refer to «Exhaust Muffler Replacement (LF1)»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/exhaust/#engine-exhaust-system) or «Exhaust Muffler Replacement (LAU)»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/exhaust/#engine-exhaust-system) .
  17. Install the tires and wheels. Refer to «Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/wheel-tire-system/#tires-and-wheels) .
  18. Check the rear alignment. Refer to «Wheel Alignment Measurement»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/wheel-alignment/#wheel-alignment-system__wheel-alignment-measurement) .

Special Tools

EN-49411: Angle Meter

For equivalent regional tools, refer to Special Tools .

  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to «Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/hoistjack/#general-information) .
  2. Remove the rear tire and wheel assemblies. Refer to «Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/wheel-tire-system/#tires-and-wheels) .
  3. Remove the rear muffler assembly. Refer to «Exhaust Muffler Replacement (LF1)»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/exhaust/#engine-exhaust-system) or «Exhaust Muffler Replacement (LAU)»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/exhaust/#engine-exhaust-system) .
  4. Disconnect the stabilizer shaft from stabilizer shaft links. Refer to «Stabilizer Shaft Replacement»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) .
  5. Remove the left park brake cable from the support. Refer to «Parking Brake Rear Cable Replacement - Left Side (FWD)»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/parking-brake-system/#parking-brake-system) or «Parking Brake Rear Cable Replacement - Left Side (AWD)»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/parking-brake-system/#parking-brake-system) .
  6. Remove the right park brake cable from the support. Refer to «Parking Brake Rear Cable Replacement - Right Side (FWD)»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/parking-brake-system/#parking-brake-system) or «Parking Brake Rear Cable Replacement - Right Side (AWD)»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/parking-brake-system/#parking-brake-system) .
  7. Remove the rear axle lower control arms from the vehicle. Refer to «Rear Axle Lower Control Arm Replacement»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) .
  8. Remove the adjust links from the from the vehicle. Refer to «Adjust Link Replacement»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) .
  9. Remove rear axle upper control arm inner fasteners. Refer to «Rear Axle Upper Control Arm Replacement»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) .
  10. Position a transmission jack under the rear support and firmly secure the support to the jack with straps.
  11. Mark the position of the support to the body with spray paint.
  12. Remove the support bolts and discard them.
  13. With the aid of an assistant, lower the support from the transmission jack stand.
  14. Remove the stabilizer shaft from the rear support.
  1. Install the stabilizer shaft assembly on to the support. Refer to «Stabilizer Shaft Replacement»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) .
  2. With the aid of an assistant, position the rear support onto the transmission jack and firmly secure the support to the jack with straps.
  3. Install the NEW support bolts and tighten to 90 N.m (66 lb ft).
  4. Tighten the support bolts an additional 90 degrees using the EN-49411: angle meter.
  5. Remove the transmission jack stand.
  6. Install the rear axle upper control arm inner fasteners. Refer to «Rear Axle Upper Control Arm Replacement»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) .
  7. Install the adjust links to the support. Refer to «Adjust Link Replacement»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) .
  8. Install the rear axle lower control arms. Refer to «Rear Axle Lower Control Arm Replacement»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) .
  9. Install the left park brake cable to the support. Refer to «Parking Brake Rear Cable Replacement - Left Side (FWD)»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/parking-brake-system/#parking-brake-system) or «Parking Brake Rear Cable Replacement - Left Side (AWD)»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/parking-brake-system/#parking-brake-system) .
  10. Install the right park brake cable to the support. Refer to «Parking Brake Rear Cable Replacement - Right Side (FWD)»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/parking-brake-system/#parking-brake-system) or «Parking Brake Rear Cable Replacement - Right Side (AWD)»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/parking-brake-system/#parking-brake-system) .
  11. Install the rear muffler assembly. Refer to «Exhaust Muffler Replacement (LF1)»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/exhaust/#engine-exhaust-system) or «Exhaust Muffler Replacement (LAU)»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/exhaust/#engine-exhaust-system)
  12. Connect the stabilizer shaft links to the stabilizer shaft. Refer to «Stabilizer Shaft Replacement»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/suspension-rear/#rear-suspension-system) .
  13. Install the rear tire and wheel assemblies. Refer to «Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/wheel-tire-system/#tires-and-wheels) .
  14. Lower the vehicle.
  15. Realign the rear suspension. Refer to «Wheel Alignment Measurement»(/cadillac/srx/ii-2009-2012/remont/wheel-alignment/#wheel-alignment-system__wheel-alignment-measurement) .
