PRE-ALIGNMENT INFORMATION

Note. Prior to performing wheel alignment, perform visual and mechanical inspection of wheels, tires and suspension components. See PRE-ALIGNMENT CHECKS article. For basic wheel alignment theory, refer to WHEEL ALIGNMENT THEORY/OPERATION article in the GENERAL INFORMATION section.

ORDER OF ALIGNMENT

To ensure accurate alignment, align wheels in the following order

  1. Rear Camber
  2. Rear Toe-In
  3. Front Caster
  4. Front Camber
  5. Front Toe-In

CAMBER ADJUSTMENT (REAR)

Rear camber is not adjustable. If rear camber is not as specified, repair or replace worn or damaged components.

TOE-IN ADJUSTMENT (REAR)

Rear toe-in is not adjustable. If rear toe-in is not as specified, repair or replace worn or damaged components.

CASTER ADJUSTMENT

Remove, add or transfer shims at bolts securing upper control arm shaft to frame. (Scheme 1) One shim pack can be thicker than the other, but not by more than.40" (10.2 mm).

CAMBER ADJUSTMENT (FRONT)

Remove, add or transfer shims at bolts securing upper control arm shaft to frame. (Scheme 1) One shim pack can be thicker than the other, but not by more than.40" (10.2 mm).

Scheme 1

Scheme 1: CAMBER ADJUSTMENT (FRONT)

TOE-IN ADJUSTMENT (FRONT)

  1. Center steering wheel and keep it centered throughout procedure. Loosen adjusting sleeve clamps. (Scheme 2) Rotate adjusting sleeve until threaded part of both tie rod ends is covered by adjusting sleeve (no threads are showing).
  2. Turn adjusting sleeve until toe-in is as specified. See «WHEEL ALIGNMENT SPECIFICATIONS»(/cadillac/fleetwood/ii-1993-1996/remont/wheel-alignment/#wheel-alignment-specifications-procedures) table. Ensure slot in adjusting sleeve is NOT aligned with gap in clamp. Ensure angle of clamp bolt (in relation to horizontal line) is as illustrated. (Scheme 2) Ensure bolt head is facing rearward. Tighten clamp bolts to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(/cadillac/fleetwood/ii-1993-1996/remont/wheel-alignment/#wheel-alignment-specifications-procedures__torque-specifications).
