Power Mirror System Cadillac Escalade GMT400

DESCRIPTION & OPERATION

Each power mirror assembly contains 2 motors. One motor positions mirror up and down, the other motor positions mirror right and left. Reversing polarity of motors will move power mirrors in opposite directions. The power mirror switch is located on left-side door trim panel.

TROUBLE SHOOTING

Before proceeding with specific testing, check the following for proper operation

  1. Check condition of appropriate power supply fuse. See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(/cadillac/escalade/gmt400-1998-2000/remont/mirrors/#power-mirror-system) .
  2. Check power seat system operation. Ensure power accessory circuit breaker is okay.
  3. Ensure ground connections are clean and tight.
  4. Check for broken or partially broken wires inside insulation which could cause system malfunction, but prove good in a continuity/voltage check with system disconnected. These circuits may be intermittent or have high resistance when loaded. If possible, circuits should be checked by monitoring voltage drop with system operational (under load).
  5. Check for proper installation of aftermarket electronic equipment.

SYSTEM TESTS

CAUTIONTo prevent damage to terminals, Connector Test Adaptor Kit (J-35616-A) must be used whenever a diagnostic procedure requires checking or probing terminals.

Note. To aid in circuit identification and component location, see appropriate wiring diagram under WIRING DIAGRAMS .

Both Power Mirrors Inoperative

  1. Check CTSY fuse (20-amp) in instrument panel fuse block, lower left side of dash, next to kick panel. If fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is blown, check Orange wire between CTSY fuse terminal and power mirror switch connector terminal "H" for a short. See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(/cadillac/escalade/gmt400-1998-2000/remont/mirrors/#power-mirror-system). (Scheme 1) Repair as necessary and retest system.
  2. Disconnect power mirror switch harness connector. Connect test light between power mirror switch harness connector terminal "H" (Orange wire) and ground. (Scheme 1) If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, repair open in Orange wire between power mirror switch connector terminal "H" and CTSY fuse (20-amp) terminal in instrument panel fuse block.   3. Connect test light between power mirror switch harness connector terminals "H" (Orange wire) and "A" (Black wire). (Scheme 1) If test light does not illuminate, repair open in Black wire between power mirror switch connector terminal "A" and ground G110, underhood, above battery. If test light illuminates, go to next step.
  4. Disconnect left-side power mirror harness connector. Using ohmmeter, check continuity of Yellow wire between power mirror switch connector terminal "D" and power mirror connector terminal "C". (Scheme 1)and (Scheme 2). See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(/cadillac/escalade/gmt400-1998-2000/remont/mirrors/#power-mirror-system). If continuity exists, replace power mirror switch. If continuity does not exist, repair open in Yellow wire between power mirror switch connector terminal "D" and power mirror connector terminal "C".

One Power Mirror Inoperative In Any Direction, Other Mirror Operates Properly

  1. Disconnect wiring harness connector from inoperative mirror. Move power mirror switch to position of inoperative mirror. Connect a test light between ground and power mirror connector terminal "C" (Yellow wire). (Scheme 2) Move power mirror switch to UP position. If test light illuminates, replace inoperative power mirror. See «POWER MIRROR ASSEMBLY»(/cadillac/escalade/gmt400-1998-2000/remont/mirrors/#power-mirror-system) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step.
  2. Check for an open in Yellow wire between power mirror connector terminal "C" and power mirror switch connector terminal "G". See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(/cadillac/escalade/gmt400-1998-2000/remont/mirrors/#power-mirror-system). Repair as necessary and retest system. If Yellow wire is okay, replace power mirror switch.

Left-Side Power Mirror Inoperative In Up/Down Positions

  1. Disconnect left-side power mirror harness connector. Connect test light between left-side power mirror harness connector terminal "D" (Light Green wire) and ground. (Scheme 2) Move power mirror switch to left mirror, DOWN position. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, replace left-side power mirror.   2. Using a test light connected to ground, backprobe left-side power mirror switch harness connector terminal "D" (Light Green wire). (Scheme 1) Move power mirror switch to DOWN position. If test light does not illuminate, replace power mirror switch. If test light illuminates, repair open in Light Green wire between left-side power mirror connector terminal "D" and power mirror switch connector terminal "E". Right-Side Power Mirror Inoperative In Up/Down Positions

  1. Disconnect right-side power mirror harness connector. Connect test light between right-side power mirror harness connector terminal "D" (Purple/White wire) and ground. (Scheme 2) Move power mirror switch to right mirror, DOWN position. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, replace right-side power mirror. See «POWER MIRROR ASSEMBLY»(/cadillac/escalade/gmt400-1998-2000/remont/mirrors/#power-mirror-system) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  2. Using a test light connected to ground, backprobe right-side power mirror switch harness connector terminal "D" (Purple/White wire). (Scheme 1) Move power mirror switch to DOWN position. If test light does not illuminate, replace power mirror switch. If test light illuminates, repair open in Purple/White wire between right-side power mirror connector terminal "D" and power mirror switch connector terminal "F". Left-Side Power Mirror Inoperative In Left/Right Positions

  1. Disconnect left-side power mirror harness connector. Connect test light between left-side power mirror harness connector terminal "E" (Light Blue wire) and ground. (Scheme 2) Move power mirror switch to left mirror, LEFT position. If test light illuminates, replace left-side power mirror. See «POWER MIRROR ASSEMBLY»(/cadillac/escalade/gmt400-1998-2000/remont/mirrors/#power-mirror-system) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step.
  2. Using a test light connected to ground, backprobe power mirror switch harness connector terminal "B" (Light Blue wire). (Scheme 1) Move power mirror switch to LEFT position. If test light does not illuminate, replace power mirror switch. If test light illuminates, repair open in Light Blue wire between left-side power mirror connector terminal "E" and power mirror switch connector terminal "B". Right-Side Power Mirror Inoperative In Left/Right Positions

  1. Disconnect right-side power mirror harness connector. Connect test light between right-side power mirror harness connector terminal "E" (Gray wire) and ground. (Scheme 2) Move power mirror switch to right mirror, LEFT position. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step. If test light illuminates, replace right-side power mirror. See «POWER MIRROR ASSEMBLY»(/cadillac/escalade/gmt400-1998-2000/remont/mirrors/#power-mirror-system) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION.
  2. Using a test light connected to ground, backprobe power mirror switch harness connector terminal "C" (Gray wire). (Scheme 1) Move power mirror switch to right mirror, LEFT position. If test light does not illuminate, replace power mirror switch. If test light illuminates, repair open in Gray wire between right-side power mirror connector terminal "E" and power mirror switch connector terminal "C". See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(/cadillac/escalade/gmt400-1998-2000/remont/mirrors/#power-mirror-system).
  1. Check MIR/LKS fuse (5-amp) in underhood fuse block, on left-side fenderwell. If fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is blown, check Orange wire between MIR/LKS fuse terminal and power mirror switch connector terminal "G" for a short. See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(/cadillac/escalade/gmt400-1998-2000/remont/mirrors/#power-mirror-system).
  2. Disconnect power mirror switch harness connector. Using test light, backprobe between power mirror switch harness connector terminal "G" (Orange wire) and ground. (Scheme 3) If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, repair open in Orange wire between power mirror switch and MIR/LKS fuse terminal in underhood fuse block.   3. Using test light, backprobe between power mirror switch harness connector terminals "G" (Orange wire) and "B" (Black wire). (Scheme 3) If test light illuminates, check for poor connection at power mirror switch. If connection is okay, replace power mirror switch. If test light does not illuminate, repair open or poor connection in Black wire between power mirror switch connector terminal "B" and ground G202, left-front of instrument panel.   1. Disconnect wiring harness connector from inoperative mirror. Move power mirror switch to position of inoperative mirror. Connect a test light between ground and power mirror connector terminal "C" (Yellow wire). (Scheme 2) Move power mirror switch to UP position. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, repair open in Yellow wire between power mirror connector terminal "C" and power mirror switch.   2. Using test light, backprobe between left-side power mirror harness connector terminals "E" (White wire) and "C" (Yellow wire). (Scheme 2) Move power mirror switch to LEFT and RIGHT positions. If test light illuminates in both positions, replace left-side power mirror. See «POWER MIRROR ASSEMBLY»(/cadillac/escalade/gmt400-1998-2000/remont/mirrors/#power-mirror-system) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If test light does not illuminate in both positions, repair open in White or Yellow wire between power mirror switch and left-side power mirror. See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(/cadillac/escalade/gmt400-1998-2000/remont/mirrors/#power-mirror-system).

Power Mirrors Inoperative In Folding Mode

  1. Check RADIO IGN fuse (10-amp) in instrument panel fuse block. Fuse block is located left-side of instrument panel, near left-front door jamb switch. If fuse is okay, go to next step. If fuse is blown, check Dark Green wire between power mirror folding switch connector terminal "A" and RADIO IGN fuse terminal in instrument panel fuse block for a short.   2. Disconnect power mirror folding switch harness connector. Turn ignition to RUN position. Connect test light between power mirror folding switch harness connector terminal "A" (Dark Green wire) and ground. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, repair open in Dark Green wire between power mirror folding switch connector terminal "A" and RADIO IGN fuse terminal in instrument panel fuse block.   3. Connect test light between power mirror folding switch harness connector terminals "A" (Dark Green wire) and "C" (Black wire). If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, repair open in Black wire between power mirror folding switch connector terminal "C" and ground G202, located left-rear of engine compartment, on cowl. See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(/cadillac/escalade/gmt400-1998-2000/remont/mirrors/#power-mirror-system).
  4. Replace power mirror folding switch and retest system. If power mirror folding mode still does not operate properly, go to next step for inoperative left-side folding mirror, or step 7) for inoperative right-side folding mirror.
  5. Disconnect left-side power mirror harness connector. Set power mirror folding switch to extend position. Connect test light between ground and power mirror harness connector terminal "H" (Yellow wire). (Scheme 2) If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, repair open in Yellow wire between mirror harness connector terminal "H" and power mirror folding switch connector terminal "B".   6. Set power mirror folding switch to retract position. Connect test light between ground and power mirror harness connector terminal "K" (Light Blue wire). (Scheme 2) If test light illuminates, replace left-side power mirror. See «POWER MIRROR ASSEMBLY»(/cadillac/escalade/gmt400-1998-2000/remont/mirrors/#power-mirror-system) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If test light does not illuminate, repair open in Light Blue wire between power mirror harness connector terminal "K" and power mirror folding switch connector terminal "D". See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(/cadillac/escalade/gmt400-1998-2000/remont/mirrors/#power-mirror-system).
  7. Disconnect right-side power mirror harness connector. Set power mirror folding switch to extend position. Connect test light between ground and power mirror harness connector terminal "H" (Yellow wire). (Scheme 2) If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, repair open in Yellow wire between mirror harness connector terminal "H" and power mirror folding switch connector terminal "B".   8. Set power mirror folding switch to retract position. Connect test light between ground and power mirror harness connector terminal "K" (Light Blue wire). (Scheme 2) If test light illuminates, replace right-side power mirror. See «POWER MIRROR ASSEMBLY»(/cadillac/escalade/gmt400-1998-2000/remont/mirrors/#power-mirror-system) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If test light does not illuminate, repair open in Light Blue wire between power mirror harness connector terminal "K" and power mirror folding switch connector terminal "D". See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(/cadillac/escalade/gmt400-1998-2000/remont/mirrors/#power-mirror-system).
  1. Disconnect power mirror switch harness connector. Connect test light between power mirror switch harness connector terminal "H" (Orange wire) and ground. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, repair open in Orange wire between power mirror switch and instrument panel fuse block or BCM. See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(/cadillac/escalade/gmt400-1998-2000/remont/mirrors/#power-mirror-system) .
  2. Connect test light between power mirror switch harness connector terminals "H" (Orange wire) and "A" (Black wire). If test light does not illuminate, repair open in Black wire between power mirror switch and ground. See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(/cadillac/escalade/gmt400-1998-2000/remont/mirrors/#power-mirror-system) . If test light illuminates, check for open in Red wire between power mirror switch and splice S503, located inside left door harness, 10" (25 cm) into outside rearview mirror breakout. If circuit is okay, replace power mirror switch.
  1. Disconnect left-side power mirror harness connector. Connect test light between left-side power mirror harness connector terminal "D" (Light Green wire) and ground. (Scheme 4) Move power mirror switch to left mirror, DOWN position. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, check for open in Light Green wire between left-side power mirror connector terminal "D" and power mirror switch. See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(/cadillac/escalade/gmt400-1998-2000/remont/mirrors/#power-mirror-system). If circuit is okay, replace power mirror switch.
  2. Connect test light between left-side power mirror harness connector terminal "C" (Red wire) and battery voltage. (Scheme 4) Move power mirror switch to DOWN position. If test light illuminates, replace left-side power mirror. See «POWER MIRROR ASSEMBLY»(/cadillac/escalade/gmt400-1998-2000/remont/mirrors/#power-mirror-system) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If test light does not illuminate, replace power mirror switch.
  1. Disconnect right-side power mirror harness connector. Connect test light between right-side power mirror harness connector terminal "D" (Purple/White wire) and ground. (Scheme 4) Move power mirror switch to right mirror, DOWN position. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, check for open in Purple/White wire between right-side power mirror connector terminal "D" and power mirror switch.   2. Connect test light between right-side power mirror harness connector terminal "C" (Black wire) and battery voltage. (Scheme 4) Move power mirror switch to DOWN position. If test light illuminates, replace right-side power mirror. See «POWER MIRROR ASSEMBLY»(/cadillac/escalade/gmt400-1998-2000/remont/mirrors/#power-mirror-system) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If test light does not illuminate, replace power mirror switch.
  1. Disconnect left-side power mirror harness connector. Connect test light between left-side power mirror harness connector terminal "A" (Light Blue wire) and ground. Move power mirror switch to left mirror, LEFT position. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, check for open in Light Blue wire between left-side power mirror connector terminal "A" and power mirror switch. See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(/cadillac/escalade/gmt400-1998-2000/remont/mirrors/#power-mirror-system) . If circuit is okay, replace power mirror switch.
  2. Connect test light between left-side power mirror harness connector terminal "B" (Red wire) and battery voltage. Move power mirror switch to LEFT position. If test light illuminates, replace left-side power mirror. See «POWER MIRROR ASSEMBLY»(/cadillac/escalade/gmt400-1998-2000/remont/mirrors/#power-mirror-system) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If test light does not illuminate, replace power mirror switch.
  1. Disconnect right-side power mirror harness connector. Connect test light between right-side power mirror harness connector terminal "A" (Gray wire) and ground. (Scheme 4) Move power mirror switch to right mirror, LEFT position. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, check for open in Gray wire between right-side power mirror connector terminal "A" and power mirror switch. See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(/cadillac/escalade/gmt400-1998-2000/remont/mirrors/#power-mirror-system). If circuit is okay, replace power mirror switch.
  2. Connect test light between right-side power mirror harness connector terminal "B" (Black wire) and battery voltage. (Scheme 4) Move power mirror switch to LEFT position. If test light illuminates, replace right-side power mirror. See «POWER MIRROR ASSEMBLY»(/cadillac/escalade/gmt400-1998-2000/remont/mirrors/#power-mirror-system) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If test light does not illuminate, replace power mirror switch.

If fuse is blown, check Orange wire between CTSY fuse terminal and power mirror switch connector terminal "E" for a short.   2. Disconnect power mirror switch harness connector. Connect test light between power mirror switch harness connector terminal "E" (Orange wire) and ground. (Scheme 5) If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, repair open in Orange wire between power mirror switch and instrument panel fuse block.   3. Connect test light between power mirror switch harness connector terminal "D" (Black wire) and battery voltage. (Scheme 5) If test light illuminates, check for poor connection at power mirror switch. If connection is okay, replace power mirror switch. If test light does not illuminate, repair poor connection or open in Black wire between power mirror switch connector terminal "D" and ground, behind left-side kick panel. Left-Side Power Mirror Inoperative

Disconnect left-side power mirror harness connector. Disconnect power mirror switch harness connector. Using ohmmeter, check continuity of Light Green wire between power mirror switch harness connector terminal "C" and left-side power mirror harness connector terminal "E". (Scheme 4)and (Scheme 5). If continuity exists, replace power mirror switch. If continuity does not exist, repair open in Light Green wire between power mirror switch connector terminal "C" and left-side power mirror connector terminal "E". See WIRING DIAGRAMS.

Right-Side Power Mirror Inoperative

Disconnect right-side power mirror harness connector. Disconnect power mirror switch harness connector. Using ohmmeter, check continuity of Light Blue/White wire between right-side power mirror harness connector terminal "E" and power mirror switch harness connector terminal "H". (Scheme 4)and (Scheme 5). If test light illuminates, replace power mirror switch. If test light does not illuminate, repair open in Light Blue/White wire between power mirror switch connector terminal "H" and right-side power mirror connector terminal "E". See WIRING DIAGRAMS.

  1. Disconnect power mirror switch harness connector. Connect an ohmmeter between power mirror switch terminals "E" (Orange wire) and "F" (Yellow wire). (Scheme 5) With left-side mirror selected, move power mirror switch to UP position. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, replace power mirror switch.
  2. Connect an ohmmeter between power mirror switch terminals "D" (Black wire) and "C" (Light Green wire). (Scheme 5) Move power mirror switch to UP position. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, replace power mirror switch.
  3. Connect ohmmeter between power mirror switch terminals "D" (Black wire) and "F" (Yellow wire). (Scheme 5) Move power mirror switch to DOWN position. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, replace power mirror switch.
  4. Connect ohmmeter between power mirror switch terminals "E" (Orange wire) and "C" (Light Green wire). (Scheme 5) Move power mirror switch to DOWN position. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, replace power mirror switch.
  5. Disconnect left-side power mirror harness connector. Connect ohmmeter between power mirror switch harness connector terminal "F" and left-side power mirror harness connector terminal "D" (Yellow wire). (Scheme 4)and (Scheme 5). If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open in Yellow wire between power mirror switch connector terminal "F" and left-side power mirror connector terminal "D". See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(/cadillac/escalade/gmt400-1998-2000/remont/mirrors/#power-mirror-system).
  6. Connect ohmmeter between power mirror switch harness connector terminal "C" and left-side power mirror harness connector terminal "E" (Light Green wire). (Scheme 4)and (Scheme 5). If continuity exists, replace left-side power mirror. See «POWER MIRROR ASSEMBLY»(/cadillac/escalade/gmt400-1998-2000/remont/mirrors/#power-mirror-system) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If continuity does not exist, repair open in Light Green wire between power mirror switch connector terminal "C" and left-side power mirror connector "E". See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(/cadillac/escalade/gmt400-1998-2000/remont/mirrors/#power-mirror-system).
  1. Disconnect power mirror switch harness connector. Connect ohmmeter between power mirror switch terminals "E" (Orange wire) and "B" (Brown/White wire). (Scheme 5) With right-side mirror selected, move power mirror switch to UP position. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, replace power mirror switch.
  2. Connect ohmmeter between power mirror switch terminals "D" (Black wire) and "H" (Light Blue/White wire). (Scheme 5) Move power mirror switch to UP position. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, replace power mirror switch.
  3. Connect ohmmeter between power mirror switch terminals "D" (Black wire) and "B" (Brown/White wire). (Scheme 5) Move power mirror switch to DOWN position. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, replace power mirror switch.
  4. Connect ohmmeter between power mirror switch terminals "E" (Orange wire) and "H" (Light Blue/White wire). (Scheme 5) Move power mirror switch to DOWN position. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, replace power mirror switch.
  5. Disconnect right-side power mirror harness connector. Connect ohmmeter between power mirror switch harness connector terminal "B" and right-side power mirror harness connector terminal "D" (Brown/White wire). (Scheme 4)and (Scheme 5). If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open in Brown/White wire between power mirror switch connector terminal "B" and right-side power mirror connector terminal "D".   6. Connect ohmmeter between power mirror switch harness connector terminal "H" (Light Blue/White wire) and right-side power mirror harness connector terminal "E" (Light Blue/White wire). (Scheme 4)and (Scheme 5). If continuity exists, replace right-side power mirror. See «POWER MIRROR ASSEMBLY»(/cadillac/escalade/gmt400-1998-2000/remont/mirrors/#power-mirror-system) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If continuity does not exist, repair open in Light Blue/White wire between power mirror switch connector terminal "H" and right-side power mirror connector terminal "E". See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(/cadillac/escalade/gmt400-1998-2000/remont/mirrors/#power-mirror-system).
  1. Disconnect power mirror switch harness connector. Connect ohmmeter between power mirror switch terminals "E" (Orange wire) and "G" (Light Blue wire). (Scheme 5) With left-side mirror selected, move power mirror switch to LEFT position. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, replace power mirror switch.
  2. Connect ohmmeter between power mirror switch terminals "D" (Black wire) and "C" (Light Green wire). (Scheme 5) Move power mirror switch to LEFT position. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, replace power mirror switch.
  3. Connect ohmmeter between power mirror switch terminals "D" (Black wire) and "G" (Light Blue wire). (Scheme 5) Move power mirror switch to RIGHT position. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, replace power mirror switch.
  4. Connect ohmmeter between power mirror switch terminals "E" (Orange wire) and "C" (Light Green wire). (Scheme 5) Move power mirror switch to RIGHT position. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, replace power mirror switch.
  5. Disconnect left-side power mirror harness connector. Connect ohmmeter between power mirror switch harness connector terminal "G" and left-side power mirror harness connector terminal "F" (Light Blue wire). (Scheme 4)and (Scheme 5). If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open in Light Blue wire between power mirror switch connector terminal "G" and left-side power mirror connector terminal "F". See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(/cadillac/escalade/gmt400-1998-2000/remont/mirrors/#power-mirror-system).
  6. Connect ohmmeter between power mirror switch harness connector terminal "C" and left-side power mirror harness connector terminal "C" (Light Green wire). (Scheme 4)and (Scheme 5). If continuity exists, replace left-side power mirror. See «POWER MIRROR ASSEMBLY»(/cadillac/escalade/gmt400-1998-2000/remont/mirrors/#power-mirror-system) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If continuity, does not exist, repair open in Light Green wire between power mirror switch connector terminal "C" and left-side power mirror connector terminal "C". See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(/cadillac/escalade/gmt400-1998-2000/remont/mirrors/#power-mirror-system).
  1. Disconnect power mirror switch harness connector. Connect ohmmeter between power mirror switch terminals "E" (Orange wire) and "A" (Gray wire). (Scheme 5) With right-side mirror selected, move power mirror switch to LEFT position. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, replace power mirror switch.
  2. Connect ohmmeter between power mirror switch terminals "D" (Black wire) and "H" (Light Blue/White wire). (Scheme 5) Move power mirror switch to LEFT position. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, replace power mirror switch.
  3. Connect ohmmeter between power mirror switch terminals "D" (Black wire) and "A" (Gray wire). (Scheme 5) Move power mirror switch to RIGHT position. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, replace power mirror switch.
  4. Connect ohmmeter between power mirror switch terminals "E" (Orange wire) and "H" (Light Blue/White wire). (Scheme 5) Move power mirror switch to RIGHT position. If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, replace power mirror switch.
  5. Disconnect right-side power mirror harness connector. Connect ohmmeter between power mirror switch harness connector terminal "A" and right-side power mirror harness connector terminal "F" (Gray wire). (Scheme 4)and (Scheme 5). If continuity exists, go to next step. If continuity does not exist, repair open in Gray wire between power mirror switch connector terminal "A" and right-side power mirror connector terminal "F". See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(/cadillac/escalade/gmt400-1998-2000/remont/mirrors/#power-mirror-system).
  6. Connect ohmmeter between power mirror switch harness connector terminal "H" and right-side power mirror harness connector terminal "C" (Light Blue/White wire). (Scheme 4)and (Scheme 5). If continuity exists, replace right-side power mirror. See «POWER MIRROR ASSEMBLY»(/cadillac/escalade/gmt400-1998-2000/remont/mirrors/#power-mirror-system) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If continuity does not exist, repair open in Light Blue/White wire between power mirror switch connector terminal "H" and right-side power mirror connector terminal "C". See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(/cadillac/escalade/gmt400-1998-2000/remont/mirrors/#power-mirror-system).
  1. Check PWR MIRROR fuse (10-amp) located in fuse block right-side of instrument panel, in door opening. If fuse is open, repair short to ground in Orange wire between PWR MIRROR fuse terminal in fuse block and power mirror switch connector terminal "E". See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(/cadillac/escalade/gmt400-1998-2000/remont/mirrors/#power-mirror-system). If fuse is okay, go to next step.
  2. Using test light, backprobe between power mirror switch harness connector terminal "E" (Orange wire) and ground. (Scheme 5) If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, repair open in Orange wire between PWR MIRROR fuse terminal in fuse block and power mirror switch connector terminal "E". See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(/cadillac/escalade/gmt400-1998-2000/remont/mirrors/#power-mirror-system).
  3. Backprobe between power mirror switch harness connector terminals "E" (Orange wire) and "D" (Black wire). (Scheme 5) If test light illuminates, replace power mirror switch. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step.
  4. Repair open in Black wire between power mirror switch connector terminal "D" and ground. See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(/cadillac/escalade/gmt400-1998-2000/remont/mirrors/#power-mirror-system).

One Power Mirror Inoperative In Up/Down Positions

  1. Set mirror switch to position of inoperative mirror. If left-side mirror is inoperative, connect test light (backprobe) between power mirror switch connector terminals "G" (Yellow wire) and "H" (Light Green wire). (Scheme 5) If right-side mirror is inoperative, connect test light (backprobe) between power mirror switch connector terminals "A" (Brown/White wire) and "C" (Light Blue/White wire). (Scheme 5) While observing test light, press UP position on mirror switch. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, replace power mirror switch.
  2. Connect test light (backprobe) between power mirror harness connector terminals "B" and "C". (Scheme 6) While observing test light, press UP position on mirror switch. If test light illuminates, replace power mirror motor pack within the inoperative power mirror. See «POWER MIRROR MOTOR»(/cadillac/escalade/gmt400-1998-2000/remont/mirrors/#power-mirror-system) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. It test light does not illuminate, go to next step.
  3. If left-side mirror is inoperative, repair open in circuit between power mirror harness connector terminal "C" and power mirror switch connector terminal "G". If right-side mirror is inoperative, repair open in circuit between power mirror harness connector terminal "C" and power mirror switch connector terminal "A". See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(/cadillac/escalade/gmt400-1998-2000/remont/mirrors/#power-mirror-system).

One Power Mirror Inoperative In Left/Right Positions

  1. Set mirror switch to position of inoperative mirror. If left-side mirror is inoperative, connect test light (backprobe) between power mirror switch connector terminals "F" (White wire) and "H" (Light Green wire). (Scheme 5) If right-side mirror is inoperative, connect test light (backprobe) between power mirror switch connector terminals "B" (Red/White wire) and "C" (Light Blue/White wire). (Scheme 5) While observing test light, press LEFT position on mirror switch. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, replace power mirror switch.
  2. Connect test light (backprobe) between power mirror harness connector terminals "B" and "A". (Scheme 6) While observing test light, press LEFT position on mirror switch. If test light illuminates, replace power mirror motor pack within the inoperative power mirror. See «POWER MIRROR MOTOR»(/cadillac/escalade/gmt400-1998-2000/remont/mirrors/#power-mirror-system) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If test light does not illuminate, go to next step.
  3. If left-side mirror is inoperative, repair open in circuit between power mirror harness connector terminal "A" and power mirror switch connector terminal "F". If right-side mirror is inoperative, repair open in circuit between power mirror harness connector terminal "A" and power mirror switch connector terminal "B". See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(/cadillac/escalade/gmt400-1998-2000/remont/mirrors/#power-mirror-system).

One Power Mirror Inoperative

  1. Set mirror switch to position of inoperative mirror. If left-side mirror is inoperative, connect test light (backprobe) between power mirror switch connector terminals "G" (Yellow wire) and "H" (Light Green wire). (Scheme 5) If right-side mirror is inoperative, connect test light (backprobe) between power mirror switch connector terminals "A" (Brown/White wire) and "C" (Light Blue/White wire). (Scheme 5) While observing test light, press UP position on mirror switch. If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, replace power mirror switch.
  2. Connect test light (backprobe) between power mirror harness connector terminals "B" and "C". (Scheme 6) While observing test light, press UP position on mirror switch. If test light illuminates, replace power mirror motor pack within the inoperative power mirror. See «POWER MIRROR MOTOR»(/cadillac/escalade/gmt400-1998-2000/remont/mirrors/#power-mirror-system) under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. It test light does not illuminate, go to next step.
  3. If left-side mirror is inoperative, repair open in circuit between power mirror harness connector terminal "B" and power mirror switch connector terminal "H". If right-side mirror is inoperative, repair open in circuit between power mirror harness connector terminal "B" and power mirror switch connector terminal "C". See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(/cadillac/escalade/gmt400-1998-2000/remont/mirrors/#power-mirror-system).
  1. Check MIR/LOCK fuse (3-amp) in left bussed electrical center, lower left side of instrument panel. Check ground G203 at left upper instrument panel, next to "A" pillar. If MIR/LOCK fuse is okay and ground G203 is clean and tight, go to next step. If MIR/LOCK fuse is blown, check circuit 2140 (Orange wire) for a short to ground. See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(/cadillac/escalade/gmt400-1998-2000/remont/mirrors/#power-mirror-system). Repair as necessary and retest system.
  2. Remove power mirror switch from left door panel with wiring connected. Using a test light connected to ground, backprobe power mirror switch terminal "G" (Orange wire). (Scheme 3) If test light illuminates, go to next step. If test light does not illuminate, repair open in Orange wire between power mirror switch and left bussed electrical center. See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(/cadillac/escalade/gmt400-1998-2000/remont/mirrors/#power-mirror-system).
  3. Connect test light between power mirror switch harness connector terminals "G" (Orange wire) and "B" (Black wire). (Scheme 3) If test light does not illuminate, repair open in Black wire between power mirror switch connector terminal "B" and ground G203, at left upper instrument panel, next to "A" pillar. See «WIRING DIAGRAMS»(/cadillac/escalade/gmt400-1998-2000/remont/mirrors/#power-mirror-system). If test light illuminates, replace power mirror switch.

Disconnect wiring harness connector from inoperative mirror. Move power mirror switch to position of inoperative mirror. Connect a test light between ground and power mirror connector terminal "C" (Yellow wire). (Scheme 4) Move power mirror switch to up/down position, and then left/right position. If test light comes on, replace vertical and horizontal power mirror motors. See POWER MIRROR MOTOR under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If test light does not come on, check Yellow wire between power mirror connector terminal "C" and power mirror switch for an open. See WIRING DIAGRAMS. If Yellow wire is okay, replace power mirror switch.

Disconnect left-side power mirror harness connector. Connect test light between left-side power mirror harness connector terminal "D" (Light Green wire) and ground. (Scheme 4) Move power mirror switch to left mirror, DOWN position. If test light illuminates, replace left vertical power mirror motor. See POWER MIRROR MOTOR under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If test light does not illuminate, check for open in Light Green wire between left-side power mirror connector terminal "D" and power mirror switch connector terminal "C". See WIRING DIAGRAMS. If circuit is okay, replace power mirror switch.

Disconnect right-side power mirror harness connector. Connect test light between right-side power mirror harness connector terminal "D" (Purple/White wire) and ground. (Scheme 4) Move power mirror switch to right mirror, DOWN position. If test light illuminates, replace right vertical power mirror motor. See POWER MIRROR MOTOR under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If test light does not illuminate, check for open in Purple/White wire between right-side power mirror connector terminal "D" and power mirror switch connector terminal "K". See WIRING DIAGRAMS. If circuit is okay, replace power mirror switch.

Disconnect left-side power mirror harness connector. Connect test light between left-side power mirror harness connector terminal "E" (White wire) and ground. (Scheme 4) Move power mirror switch to left mirror, RIGHT position. If test light illuminates, replace left vertical power mirror motor. See POWER MIRROR MOTOR under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If test light does not illuminate, check for open in White wire between left-side power mirror connector terminal "E" and power mirror switch connector terminal "F". See WIRING DIAGRAMS. If circuit is okay, replace power mirror switch.

Disconnect right-side power mirror harness connector. Connect test light between right-side power mirror harness connector terminal "E" (Red/White wire) and ground. (Scheme 4) Move power mirror switch to right mirror, RIGHT position. If test light illuminates, replace right horizontal power mirror motor. See POWER MIRROR MOTOR under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION. If test light does not illuminate, check for open in Red/White wire between right-side power mirror connector terminal "E" and power mirror switch connector terminal "J". See WIRING DIAGRAMS. If circuit is okay, replace power mirror switch.

REMOVAL & INSTALLATION

CAUTIONWhen battery is disconnected, vehicle computer and memory systems may lose memory data. Driveability problems may exist until computer systems have completed a relearn cycle. See COMPUTER RELEARN PROCEDURES article in GENERAL INFORMATION before disconnecting battery.

Removal & Installation (Astro & Safari)

Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove window belt filler assembly. Remove sound insulator patch. Disconnect power mirror harness connector. Remove retaining nuts from power mirror assembly. Remove power mirror assembly from door. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten power mirror mounting nuts to 89 INCH lbs. (10 N.m).

Removal & Installation (Blazer, Bravada, Envoy, Jimmy, Sonoma & S10 Pickup)

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove door handle bezel screw. Prying at rear of bezel with lever in locked position, remove door handle bezel from trim panel.
  2. On models equipped with window regulator handle, insert Door Handle Remover (J-9886-01) between handle and bearing plate. Align tool parallel with door handle, and push to disengage clip. Pull handle from door. Remove bearing plate.
  3. On all models, use flat-bladed tool to carefully remove power accessory switch panel. Pry off cover and remove armrest screw. Remove door trim panel screws. Using Trim Panel Remover (J-38778), remove trim panel. Remove mirror access hole plugs. Remove power mirror mounting screws. Disconnect harness connector from power mirror. Remove power mirror assembly.
  4. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten power mirror mounting screws to 53 INCH lbs. (6 N.m). Tighten handle bezel and door trim panel screws to 17 INCH lbs. (1.9 N.m).

Removal & Installation (Escalade, Suburban, Tahoe, Yukon, & "C" & "K" Series Pickup)

Using Trim Panel Remover (J-38778), carefully pry retainer from door. Pull upward to release extension and remove trim panel. Remove access hole plugs. Remove power mirror mounting nuts. Disconnect power mirror harness connector. Remove power mirror assembly. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten power mirror mounting nuts to 53 INCH lbs. (6 N.m).

Removal & Installation (Express & Savana)

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Using Door Handle Clip Remover (J-9886-01), remove window regulator handle (if equipped). Remove window regulator handle bezel (if equipped). Remove front garnish. Remove inside door handle bezel.
  2. Remove screws and trim plate. Remove armrest screws. Remove trim panel. Disconnect power mirror harness connector. Remove power mirror mounting nuts. Remove power mirror assembly from vehicle. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten power mirror mounting nuts to 89 INCH lbs. (10 N.m).

Removal & Installation (Montana, Silhouette & Venture)

  1. Disconnect negative battery cable. Remove power window and door lock control switch plate (if equipped). Using Door Handle Clip Remover (J-9886-01), remove window regulator handle (if equipped). Remove door armrest. Using Door Trim Pad and Garnish Clip Remover (J-38778), remove door trim panel.
  2. Carefully peel off water deflector. Remove power mirror mounting nuts. Disconnect power mirror harness connector. Remove power mirror assembly. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten power mirror assembly mounting nuts to 89 INCH lbs. (10 N.m).

Removal & Installation (Sierra & Silverado)

Using Trim Panel Remover (J-38778), carefully pry retainer from door. Pull upward to release extension and remove trim panel. Remove access hole plugs. Remove power mirror mounting nuts. Disconnect power mirror harness connector. Remove power mirror assembly. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten power mirror mounting nuts to 80 INCH lbs. (9 N.m).

  1. Place tape over mirror glass. Cover mirror face with cloth and break mirror lens. Wearing gloves, clean broken glass from inside mirror frame.
  2. To install, remove adhesive backing from back of new mirror lens. Firmly press mirror lens into mirror housing.
  1. Remove power mirror assembly. See «POWER MIRROR ASSEMBLY»(/cadillac/escalade/gmt400-1998-2000/remont/mirrors/#power-mirror-system) . To remove mirror back and glass assembly from housing, insert fingers as far as possible behind mirror back (toward center) and pull straight out with enough force to disengage trunnion from motor pack.
  2. To install, align mirror back jack screws with helical gear openings. Gently press mirror back toward motor pack enough to put slight pressure on jack screws.
  3. Electrically actuate mirror downward until up/down jack screw is 50 percent inserted into motor pack. On left-side mirror, electrically actuate mirror left until left/right jack screw is 50 percent inserted into motor pack. On right-side mirror, electrically actuate mirror right until left/right jack screw is 50 percent inserted into motor pack.
  4. On both mirrors, ensure mirror back trunnion is aligned into motor pack trunnion receptor area. Using palm of hand, uniformly press center of glass firmly until mirror back trunnion snaps into place. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure.

Removal & Installation (Express, Savana, Sierra & Silverado)

  1. To remove mirror back and glass assembly from housing, insert fingers as far as possible behind mirror back (toward center) and pull straight out with enough force to disengage snap-fits from adjuster mechanism.
  2. To install, align mirror back snap-fit hooks with adjuster mechanism ramps. Gently press mirror back toward adjuster mechanism until engagement of snap-hooks.
  3. Check mirror operation with foam placed below mirror to catch glass if it should fall. Installation is successful if mirror back stays firmly attached to motor pack.

Removal & Installation (Montana, Silhouette Venture)

Without damaging mirror, pull mirror from mirror housing. Remove power mirror assembly. See POWER MIRROR ASSEMBLY . Remove mirror motor screws. Remove mirror motor from mirror housing. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten mirror motor screws to 89 INCH lbs. (10 N.m).

Using Trim Panel Remover (J-38778), carefully pry retainer from door. Pull upward to release extension and remove trim panel. Remove access hole plugs. Disconnect power mirror harness connector. Remove mirror back and glass assembly from housing. Insert fingers as far as possible behind mirror back (toward center) and pull straight out with enough force to disengage snap-fits from adjuster mechanism. Remove mirror motor from mirror housing. To install, reverse removal procedure.
