Fastener Tightening Specifications

Removal Procedure

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to «Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle»(/cadillac/elr/i-2013-2015/remont/hoistjack/#general-information__lifting-and-jacking-the-vehicle) .
2. Remove the fasteners (1, 2), securing the underbody rear deflector (3), to the rear bumper fascia (4) and frame.
3. Remove the fasteners (1) and remove the underbody rear deflector (2) from the vehicle.

Installation Procedure

1. Install the underbody rear deflector (2) into position and tighten the fasteners (1) to 2.5 (22 lb in).
2. Install the fasteners (1) and tighten to 2.5 (22 lb in).
3. Install the fasteners (2) and tighten to 2.5 (22 lb in).
4. Lower the vehicle.

Drivetrain and Front Suspension Frame Stabilizer Bracket Replacement

1. Disable the high voltage system. Refer to «High Voltage Disabling»(/cadillac/elr/i-2013-2015/remont/body-electrical/#hybridev-energy-storage-system) .
2. Support the radiator and condenser from above using the condenser tabs on each side.
3. Install the engine support fixture. Refer to «Engine Support Fixture»(ref-636500-S28245195062014070700000) .
4. Remove the lower steering intermediate shaft bolt. Refer to «Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement»(/cadillac/elr/i-2013-2015/remont/steering-column-switches/#steering-wheel-and-steering-column) .
5. Raise the vehicle on a hoist. Refer to «Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle»(/cadillac/elr/i-2013-2015/remont/hoistjack/#general-information__lifting-and-jacking-the-vehicle) .
6. Remove the front bumper fascia extension. Refer to «Front Bumper Fascia Extension Replacement»(/cadillac/elr/i-2013-2015/remont/exterior-body-panels/#bumpers-and-fascias) .
7. Remove both front wheel well liners. Refer to «Front Wheelhouse Liner Replacement»(/cadillac/elr/i-2013-2015/remont/frames-subframes-crossmembers/#frame-and-underbody) .
8. Remove the catalytic converter. Refer to «Catalytic Converter Replacement»(/cadillac/elr/i-2013-2015/remont/exhaust/#engine-exhaust-system) .
9. Remove the wheel speed sensor wiring harness connector (1) and the harness retainers (2) from the frame on both sides.
10. Remove the heater inlet and outlet pipe bracket bolts (1) from frame.
11. Position the heater coolant pump and support to the side. Refer to «Heater Coolant Pump Replacement»(/cadillac/elr/i-2013-2015/remont/automatic-hvac-system/#heating-ventilation-and-air-conditioning) .
12. Disconnect the electrical connectors (2) from the electronic power steering assembly (3).
13. Remove the wire harness retainers (1) from the electronic power steering assembly (3).
14. Remove the lower ball joints (1) from the front suspension strut yoke. Refer to «Front Suspension Strut Yoke Replacement»(/cadillac/elr/i-2013-2015/remont/suspension-front/#front-suspension-system) .
15. Remove the stabilizer shaft link nut (1) from the strut (2), then discard the nut. Refer to «Stabilizer Shaft Link Replacement»(/cadillac/elr/i-2013-2015/remont/suspension-front/#front-suspension-system) .
16. Remove the outer tie rods (1) and tie rod nuts (2) from the steering knuckles. Refer to «Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement»(/cadillac/elr/i-2013-2015/remont/manual-power-steering/#power-steering-system) .
17. Remove the rear transmission mount (2) to rear transmission mount bracket through bolt (1). Refer to «Transmission Rear Mount Replacement»(/cadillac/elr/i-2013-2015/remont/automatic-trans/#automatic-transmission-4et50-repair-instructions-on-vehicle) .
18. Lower the vehicle until the drivetrain and front suspension frame contacts the engine support table.
19. Remove the rear stabilizer bracket bolts (2).
20. Remove the frame front and rear bolts (1).
21. Remove any harness retainers attached to the frame.
22. Remove the frame (3) from the vehicle.
23. Remove the following components if replacing the frame: The lower control arms-Refer to «Lower Control Arm Replacement»(/cadillac/elr/i-2013-2015/remont/suspension-front/#front-suspension-system) . The stabilizer shaft-Refer to «Stabilizer Shaft Replacement»(/cadillac/elr/i-2013-2015/remont/suspension-front/#front-suspension-system) . The electronic power steering gear-Refer to «Electric Dual Pinion Rack and Pinion Steering Gear Replacement»(/cadillac/elr/i-2013-2015/remont/manual-power-steering/#power-steering-system) .

1. Install the following components on the drivetrain and front suspension frame, if removed: The stabilizer shaft-Refer to «Stabilizer Shaft Replacement»(/cadillac/elr/i-2013-2015/remont/suspension-front/#front-suspension-system) . The lower control arms-Refer to «Lower Control Arm Replacement»(/cadillac/elr/i-2013-2015/remont/suspension-front/#front-suspension-system) . The electronic power steering gear-Refer to «Electric Dual Pinion Rack and Pinion Steering Gear Replacement»(/cadillac/elr/i-2013-2015/remont/manual-power-steering/#power-steering-system) .
2. Install the frame to the vehicle.
3. Install the frame mounting front and rear bolts (1) and tighten to 160 (118 lb ft).
4. Install the NEW frame stabilizer bracket bolts (2) and tighten to 58 (43 lb ft) plus 45 Degrees.
5. Install the rear transmission mount (2) to rear transmission mount bracket through bolt (1). Tighten the nut (3) to 100 (74 lb ft).
6. Install the outer tie rods (1) and tie rod nuts (2) to the steering knuckles. Refer to «Steering Linkage Outer Tie Rod Replacement»(/cadillac/elr/i-2013-2015/remont/manual-power-steering/#power-steering-system) .
7. Connect the electrical connectors (2) to the electronic power steering assembly (3) and the harness retainers (1). Refer to «FEP Connectors (Steering Gear)»(/cadillac/elr/i-2013-2015/remont/body-electrical/#wiring-systems-and-power-management-diagnostic-information-and-procedures) .
8. Install the stabilizer shaft link (2) and tighten the nut (1) to 65 (48 lb ft).
9. Install the lower ball joints (1) to the front suspension strut yoke. Refer to «Front Suspension Strut Yoke Replacement»(/cadillac/elr/i-2013-2015/remont/suspension-front/#front-suspension-system) .
10. Install the wheel speed sensor wiring harness connector (1) and the harness retainers (2) to the frame.
11. Install the heater coolant pump and support to the frame. Refer to «Heater Coolant Pump Replacement»(/cadillac/elr/i-2013-2015/remont/automatic-hvac-system/#heating-ventilation-and-air-conditioning) .
12. Install the heater inlet and outlet pipe bracket fasteners (1) to the frame and tighten to 17 (13 lb ft).
13. Install the catalytic converter. Refer to «Catalytic Converter Replacement»(/cadillac/elr/i-2013-2015/remont/exhaust/#engine-exhaust-system) .
14. Install both front wheel well liners. Refer to «Front Wheelhouse Liner Replacement»(/cadillac/elr/i-2013-2015/remont/frames-subframes-crossmembers/#frame-and-underbody) .
15. Install the front bumper fascia extension. Refer to «Front Bumper Fascia Extension Replacement»(/cadillac/elr/i-2013-2015/remont/exterior-body-panels/#bumpers-and-fascias) .
16. Lower the vehicle.
17. Remove the support of the radiator and condenser.
18. Install the lower steering intermediate shaft. Refer to «Intermediate Steering Shaft Replacement»(/cadillac/elr/i-2013-2015/remont/steering-column-switches/#steering-wheel-and-steering-column) .
19. Remove the engine support fixture from the vehicle.
20. Check the wheel alignment. Refer to «Wheel Alignment Measurement»(/cadillac/elr/i-2013-2015/remont/wheel-alignment/#wheel-alignment-system__wheel-alignment-measurement) .
21. Enable the high voltage system. Refer to «High Voltage Enabling»(/cadillac/elr/i-2013-2015/remont/body-electrical/#hybridev-energy-storage-system) .

Drivetrain and Front Suspension Frame Front Insulator Replacement

Special Tools

1. CH-906-14 Adapter
2. CH-906-42 Adapter
3. CH-50342 Threaded Rod

For equivalent regional tools. Refer to Special Tools (Volt) .

1. Remove the drivetrain and front suspension frame. Refer to «Drivetrain and Front Suspension Frame Replacement»(/cadillac/elr/i-2013-2015/remont/frames-subframes-crossmembers/#frame-and-underbody) .
2. Mark Installation position of insulator (2) at frame (1).
3. Cut out frame insulator core (1) from frame insulator (2).
4. Remove frame insulator core (1) from outer frame insulator (2).
5. Remove the frame insulator (3) from drivetrain and front suspension frame (1) using a chisel (2) or equivalent.

1. Install the following components on the drivetrain and front suspension frame: CH-906-14 Adapter. CH-906-42 Adapter. CH-50342 Threaded Rod. NOTE: Check marking of frame insulator. Align the insulator tab with the alignment marks (1) on the frame.
2. Carefully install the frame insulator in to the front suspension frame.
3. Install the drivetrain and front suspension frame. Refer to «Drivetrain and Front Suspension Frame Replacement»(/cadillac/elr/i-2013-2015/remont/frames-subframes-crossmembers/#frame-and-underbody) .

1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to «Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle»(/cadillac/elr/i-2013-2015/remont/hoistjack/#general-information__lifting-and-jacking-the-vehicle) .
2. Remove the front tire. Refer to «Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation»(/cadillac/elr/i-2013-2015/remont/wheel-tire-system/#tires-and-wheels__tire-and-wheel-removal-and-installation) .
3. Remove the fasteners (1) from the front wheelhouse liner (4).
4. Remove the fasteners (2, 3) from the front wheelhouse liner (4).
5. Remove the fasteners (1) from the top and rear area of the front wheelhouse liner.
6. Remove the plastic retainers (2) and remove the front wheelhouse liner (3) from the vehicle.

1. Install the front wheelhouse liner (3) into position on the vehicle with the plastic retainers (2).
2. Install the fasteners (1) and tighten to 2.5 (22 lb in).
3. Install the fasteners (1) to the front wheelhouse liner and tighten to 3 (27 lb in).
4. Install the fasteners (2) and tighten to 2.5 (2 lb ft).
5. Install the remaining fasteners (3) and tighten to 2.5 (2 lb ft).
6. Install the front tire. Refer to «Tire and Wheel Removal and Installation»(/cadillac/elr/i-2013-2015/remont/wheel-tire-system/#tires-and-wheels__tire-and-wheel-removal-and-installation) .
7. Lower the vehicle.
