DESCRIPTION
Power window system uses a permanent-magnet motor to operate each window. Motor operation is controlled by a master switch assembly alone, or in combination with individual window switches. Window is raised or lowered depending on polarity of current applied to window motor.
Some models use a control module to access an express mode of operation. When left front window switch pushed past first detent, module activates relay to apply full battery voltage to window motor. This provides current to quickly and fully open window. If window switch is pushed to UP position during express down mode, window will stop. When window reaches full down position, motor stall is detected by master switch assembly, cutting off power to motor.
Rear window lock-out feature disables rear window switches, allowing only master switch assembly operation of rear windows.
OPERATION
When ignition switch is in RUN position or retained accessory power is activated, power for window system is supplied to master switch assembly through fuse block circuit breaker to accessory time delay relay. When any switch is operated, power is applied through single window switch to motor, driving window motor in either direction to either raise or lower window. Each motor is protected by an internal circuit breaker which will reset after switch is released (voltage removed).

Door window adjustment should be performed if the following conditions exist
- If any beveled edge of window is visible with window in full up position, window should be adjusted up/down at inner panel cam.
- If window does not fit frame, or if up/down adjustments were made, window should be adjusted fore/aft at widow sash.
- If window rattles in full down position or if any other adjustments were made, lower run channels should be adjusted fore/aft. Adjustment reasons may vary. Adjustment procedures should always be performed in the following sequence. (Scheme 1)
- Disable side air bags. See appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article. Remove window switch assembly. See «WINDOW SWITCH»(/cadillac/deville-concours/i-final-1999-1999/remont/windows/#power-window-system). Remove door trim plate. Gently pull inward to disengage trim fastener retaining outside mirror trim cover. Remove 2 screws from door panel. Remove door panel by lifting up and out. Disconnect electrical connectors.
- Remove speaker (if equipped). Remove side door inflatable restraint side impact inflator module and side impact sensing module. See appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article. Remove water deflector by removing fasteners and peel deflector from inner panel.
- Lower window slightly to relieve excess pressure on inner panel cam. Loosen inner panel cam bolts. (Scheme 1) Front door has 2 bolts and rear door has 3. Adjust window cam up/down as necessary.
- Tighten inner panel cam bolts to 97 INCH lbs. (11 N.m). Verify proper up/down adjustment by raising window to full up position. Check fore/aft adjustment of window to window frame. Loosen window sash bolt through access hole in door inner panel. (Scheme 1)
- Position window fore/aft in window frame as necessary. Tighten bolt to 97 INCH lbs. (11 N.m). Cycle window several times to verify proper up/down and full up fore/aft adjustment. Lower window to full down position. Verify window rests inside of front lower run channel and rear lower run channel.
- Loosen lower run channel adjustment bolt(s). Fit run channel(s) against window and tighten bolts to 97 INCH lbs. (11 N.m). Cycle window to ensure no binding occurs. Install water deflector and door trim panel.
Scheme 1
Eldorado
- Remove switch plates. See «WINDOW SWITCH»(/cadillac/deville-concours/i-final-1999-1999/remont/windows/#power-window-system). Remove screw in switch plate opening. Insert flat-blade tool between upper rear corner of carpet attached to door trim panel. Disengage fastener, and fold back carpet.
- Remove speaker (if equipped). Remove water deflector by removing fastener and peel deflector from inner panel.
- To adjust parallelism, raise window to 1/2 inch (13 mm) below full up position. Check parallelism on upstroke of window motion. Gap from horizontal edge of window to weatherstrip should be even at front and rear of window. Adjust parallelism as needed by loosening and repositioning of inner cam bolts. Tighten inner panel cam bolts to 97 INCH lbs. (11 N.m).
- Window fore/aft adjustment is necessary if space between window and "B" pillar weatherstrip retainer is not 1/4 inch (6-7 mm) with window up and door closed. To adjust, loosen regulator to window sash channel bolts and reposition window. Recheck adjustment. Readjust as necessary. Tighten sash channel bolts to 97 INCH lbs. (11 N.m).
- To Adjust window upstop, remove roof rail weatherstrip. Insert one inch (2.6 cm) wide roll of masking tape in weatherstrip retainer. (Scheme 2)
- Window should be in full up position and door closed. Measure gap between edge of weatherstrip retainer assembly and top edge of window. (Scheme 2)
- Gap should be 1/8 inch (3 mm). If gap is not within specification, figure amount of movement needed and adjust upstops accordingly. Window upstop adjusters are color coded. Front upstop adjuster is Neutral in color, rear adjuster is Black. One full turn of adjuster bolt equals one mm of glass movement. If facing door inner panel, clockwise rotation moves glass up, counterclockwise moves glass down. Lower window slightly to relieve pressure before moving adjusters.
- Reinstall roof rail weatherstrip, water deflector, speaker and door trim panel. Recheck adjustment. Readjust if necessary.

WINDOW MOTOR
| WARNING | Deactivate air bag system before performing any service operation. See appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article. DO NOT apply electrical power to any component in door without first deactivating air bag system. Air bag may deploy. |
| CAUTION | If window regulator motor must be removed, counterbalance spring must be removed first. Regulator lift arms are under tension from counterbalance spring and can cause serious personal injury if motor is removed without removing spring. |
| CAUTION | Ensure power window switch has been disconnected when working inside driver's door. If activated, express down feature allows window to drop down very quickly without stopping which could cause personal injury. |
Removal & Installation
- On DeVille, deactivate air bag system before performing any service operation. See appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article. Remove window switch assembly. See «WINDOW SWITCH»(/cadillac/deville-concours/i-final-1999-1999/remont/windows/#power-window-system) . Remove door trim plate. Gently pull inward to disengage trim fastener retaining outside mirror trim cover. Remove 2 screws from door panel. Remove door panel by lifting up and out. Disconnect electrical connectors. Remove speaker (if equipped). Remove side door inflatable restraint side impact inflator module and side impact sensing module. See appropriate AIR BAG RESTRAINT SYSTEMS article.
