Door Locks & Anti-Theft Systems 3 illustrations ~3427 words

DESCRIPTION

Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) system, also known as Remote Function Actuator (RFA) system, allows driver to operate several features from outside vehicle. Main components of system are the transmitter and receiver module. Transmitter unit sends a radio signal to the receiver module in response to button presses by vehicle operator. Receiver module then interprets signals and relays information to appropriate module to provide requested function. RFA module identifies which transmitter is being used and sends class 2 data to memory seat module to adjusts seats and mirrors to their preset positions. Perimeter lighting can be enabled to illuminate using RKE transmitter when it is dark out.

OPERATION

Pressing unlock button once will unlock driver's door, turn on illuminated entry lights, and disarm theft system (if equipped). Pressing unlock button a second time within 4 seconds will unlock all doors. This function will be disabled if ignition is on.

Pressing lock button will lock all doors. Pressing trunk button will unlock trunk. This feature is disabled if transmission is not in Park and ignition is on. Pressing fuel door button will open fuel door.

Diagnostic Aids

DTC B1000 will stay in current memory until passed test message is received by Remote Function Actuator (RFA) module after power up self-test. If DTC will not clear, replace RFA module.

Remote Function Actuator (RFA) module performs internal tests on EEPROM each time RFA module writes to memory in EEPROM. RFA module reads back data from EEPROM that has been written to EEPROM. If data does not match after 3 consecutive write and verify attempts, RFA module will set DTC B1007 as current. No driver warning message will be displayed for this DTC.

DTC B1007 will clear when RFA successfully writes and reads from EEPROM. History DTCs will clear after 50 consecutive ignition cycles if malfunction is no longer present.

  1. If remote keyless entry diagnostic system check was performed, go to next step. If remote keyless entry diagnostic system check was not performed, go to «REMOTE KEYLESS ENTRY (RKE) DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM CHECK»(/cadillac/deville-concours/i-final-1999-1999/remont/door-locks-anti-theft-systems/#remote-keyless-entry-systems__remote-keyless-entry-rke-diagnostic-system) under SELF-DIAGNOSTIC SYSTEM.
