Draining Procedure
| CAUTION | With a pressurized cooling system, the coolant temperature in the radiator can be considerably higher than the boiling point of the solution at atmospheric pressure. Removal of the surge tank cap, while the cooling system is hot and under high pressure, causes the solution to boil instantaneously with explosive force. This will cause the solution to spew out over the engine, the fenders, and the person removing the cap. Serious bodily injury may result. |
- Park the vehicle on a level surface.
- Remove the surge tank cap.
- Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to «Lifting and Jacking the Vehicle»(/cadillac/cts/i-2002-2007/remont/hoistjack/#general-information__lifting-and-jacking-the-vehicle) in General Information.
- Remove the air deflector. Refer to «Air Deflector Replacement - Front»(/cadillac/cts/i-2002-2007/remont/exterior-body-panels/#body-front-end) in Body Front End.
- Place a drain pan under the lower radiator hose connection at the bottom of the radiator.
- Using J 38185 slide the hose clamp back on the hose.
- Slowly remove the lower radiator hose and drain the coolant into the drain pan.
- Inspect the engine coolant for the following: Discolored appearance - follow the flush procedure. Refer to «Flushing»(/cadillac/cts/i-2002-2007/remont/cooling-fan/#engine-cooling-system__flushing) . Normal in appearance - follow the filling procedure. If a complete block drain is required, remove the block drain located on the LH side of the block. Fill the system using the Special Coolant Fill Procedure.
