DESCRIPTION & OPERATION
On all models except Riviera and Corvette, power operated side view mirrors are controlled by a switch on armrest for driver's mirror and a switch on instrument panel for passenger's side mirror.
On Riviera, driver's door switch controls both mirrors, with selector switch in base of control switch determining which mirror is operated. On Corvette, switches are located on center console next to driver.
Cadillac, Corvette and Reatta models also have a power mirror heating system which operates in conjunction with rear window defogger. When defogger is turned on, mirror base heats up through ground lead soldered to it. A thermistor in wiring circuit interrupts current flow when mirror base reaches 158°F (69°C) and turns off power to mirror.
Each power mirror assembly has 2 reversible motors. One motor moves mirror up or down, and the other moves mirror left or right. The voltage applied to motor terminals determines the direction mirror motor turns. When a mirror reaches its mechanical limit of travel, a self resetting circuit breaker opens the mirror control circuit to protect each motor from overload.
