BRAKE PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT (GRAND AM ONLY)
Vehicle is equipped with dual braking system which provides back-up braking capability should a loss of hydraulic pressure occur in either half of the dual system. The BRAKE PRESSURE light will come on to indicate a potential malfunction in the braking system, and it should be inspected as soon as possible. Continued driving without necessary services could be dangerous. Light is designed to come on briefly during engine starting as a bulb check. The PARK BRAKE warning light will come on when the ignition switch is in the ON position and the parking brake is not fully released. Have the system checked if light remains lit after the parking brake has been fully released.
BRAKE SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT
Vehicle is equipped with dual braking system which provides back-up braking capability should a failure occur in either half of the hydraulic system. If there is a failure to either half of the dual braking system, the warning light will come on and the system should be inspected immediately. This light should come on briefly as a bulb check when engine is first started. Light will also come on with the ignition key in the ON position and the parking brake applied.
ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE LIGHT
Light is designed to come on briefly when the engine is first started as a bulb check. If it comes on or remains on while driving, it indicates a potential engine overheating condition and all operations should be stopped as soon as possible. Continued operation of engine in this condition, even for a short time, may result in severe vehicle damage.
OIL PRESSURE LIGHT
Light indicates low engine oil pressure, but does not indicate the amount of oil in the engine. This light should come on as a bulb check when the ignition switch is in the ON position, but should go out when engine is started. Have the system checked and serviced if light comes on and remains on while driving. Do not operate vehicle until cause is located and corrected.
ALTERNATOR VOLTS/AMP LIGHT
This light should come on when the ignition switch is in the ON position, but should go out shortly after engine is started. If it comes on or remains on when engine is running, have the system inspected and serviced as soon as possible.
SERVICE ENGINE SOON/CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT
This light indicates a malfunction in the engine control system. If functioning properly, it should come on when the ignition is turned on and go out shortly after engine is started. If light fails to come on with ignition or remains on when running, have the system checked and serviced as necessary. Continued driving without having the system serviced could affect fuel economy and driveability, and cause possible damage to the emission control system.
CHECK GAUGES LIGHT (IF EQUIPPED)
This light will flash on and off to indicate low oil pressure, low fuel level or high coolant temperature. Light may come on momentarily when engine is first started, but should go off during normal operation. If light flashes on and off while driving, it indicates a problem in one of the monitored systems and needs to be corrected as necessary.
DRIVER INFORMATION CENTER (DIC) MESSAGE DISPLAY (IF EQUIPPED)
The Driver Information Center displays messages to keep the driver informed about the status of the various car systems. If a problem has been detected in one of the car systems, the problem message will appear instead of the MONITORED SYSTEMS OK. For a full listing of DIC messages, refer to owner's manual.
ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM (ABS) WARNING LIGHT (IF EQUIPPED)
If ABS light stays on or comes on while vehicle is being operated, stop vehicle as soon as possible and turn ignition off. Start engine to restart system. If ABS light stays on, or comes on again while being operated, the anti-lock system needs service.
