The power seat system consists of the following components
- The driver seat adjuster switch
- The passenger seat adjuster switch
- The driver seat adjuster motor assembly
- The passenger seat adjuster motor assembly
- The PWR/HEATED SEAT PSD 30A circuit breaker
Driver and Passenger Power Seat Operation
The seat adjuster motors are controlled by the seat adjuster switches. Battery positive voltage and ground is supplied to the switch assemblies. All of the switches are closed to ground when in an inactive state. When an adjuster switch is pressed one of the adjuster motor supply circuits is supplied battery positive voltage, and ground is provided through the supply circuit to the inactive switch. The adjuster motors are reversible and the direction of the adjuster motor rotation is determined by which of the supply circuits is closed to battery positive voltage and which remains grounded.
The heated seats system consists of the following components
- The heated seat switch
- The driver heated seat relay module
- The passenger heated seat relay module
- The driver heated seat thermistor
- The passenger heated seat thermistor
- The driver back cushion heater element
- The driver seat cushion heater element
- The passenger back cushion heater element
- The passenger seat cushion heater element
- The HVAC/DIC/DRL/HEATED SEAT 10A fuse
- The PWR/HEATED SEAT PSD 30A circuit breaker
The heated seats are controlled by the following components
- Headed seat switches
- Heated seat relay modules
Heated Seat Operation
The driver and front passenger seats are heated using electric heater elements with approximately 1 ohm of resistance each and are located in the lower seat cushions and seat backs. Voltage to the heater elements is controlled by the heated seat relay modules using inputs from the heated seat switches and the heated seat thermistors. The heated seat relay modules and thermistors are part of the lower seat cushion heater element assemblies. Ignition voltage is supplied to the heated seat switch assembly and is used to supply a signal voltage to the relay module and to illuminate the heated seat indicator during heated seat operation.
Battery voltage is supplied to the relay module through a PTC device located in the seat harness which provides extra circuit protection. During heated seat operation the relay module switches the battery voltage supply circuit to the heater element supply circuit. The seat cushion and back heater elements are wired in series and always operate simultaneously. The seat temperature is regulated by the relay module using an input from the thermistor located in the seat cushion. The thermistor is a temperature sensitive variable resistor and the relay module determines the seat cushion temperature by monitoring the signal voltage supplied to the thermistor. When the desired seat temperature has been reached the relay module will open and close the supply voltage to the heater elements as necessary in order to maintain the seat temperature.
The memory seat system consists of the following components
- The seat adjuster switch
- The memory seat module
- The driver seat adjuster motor assembly
- The PWR/HEATED SEAT PSD 30A circuit breaker
The memory seat system is controlled by the following components
- Seat adjuster switch
- Memory seat module
The seat adjuster motors are controlled by the memory seat module through the adjuster motor supply circuits. Adjuster motor operation occurs when the memory seat module switches one of the adjuster motor supply circuits to battery positive voltage and the other to ground. The adjuster motors are reversible and the direction of the adjuster motor rotation is determined by which of the adjuster motor supply circuits is switched to battery positive voltage and which is grounded.
The seat adjuster switch is supplied with a 12-volt reference circuit by the memory seat module. When a seat adjuster switch is pressed the signal circuit is closed to the 12-volt reference. Closing the switch signal circuit to the reference voltage pulls the signal circuit high indicating to the memory seat module the switch status is active. The memory seat module also uses the serial data circuit for diagnostic purposes and to send and receive messages which affect the memory seat system operation.
The seat adjuster motors are equipped with position sensors. The position sensors are supplied with a 5-volt reference circuit and low reference circuit from the memory seat module. Whenever a memory seat module function is active the memory seat module receives a signal from each position sensor which varies from 0 to 5 volts depending on the seat position. The memory seat module uses the position sensor signal voltages to determine the seat position when storing or recalling seat position settings.
