Scheme 4
OIL PRESSURE LIGHTS
Light indicates low engine oil pressure, but does not indicate the amount of oil in the engine. This light is designed to come on momentarily during engine starting as a bulb check. If light does not come on as described or remains on while driving, have system checked and serviced as soon as possible. DO NOT operate vehicle until cause is located and corrected.
CHOKE WARNING LIGHT (GASOLINE ENGINE)
Vehicles with optional gauges (except fuel-injected engines) are equipped with a separate CHOKE warning light. This light is to be used along with the oil pressure light or gauge to replace the OIL/CHOKE light. This light should come on with the ignition switch in the ON position to provide a bulb check, but should go off shortly after engine is started. The system should be checked and serviced, as necessary, if light does not come on or if it comes on or remains on while driving. Continued operation of vehicle with the CHOKE light on could result in serious damage to the vehicle.
OIL/CHOKE LIGHT (GASOLINE ENGINE)
On vehicles with a standard cluster, this light will come on to indicate a possible loss of electric choke heater voltage or low oil pressure. Light is designed to come on with the ignition switch in the ON position to provide a bulb check. It should go out after engine is started. If light does not come on or if it comes on or remains lit while driving, have the cause located and corrected immediately. Do not operate vehicle until the trouble source has been corrected.
WATER-IN-FUEL/DRAIN FILTER LIGHT (DIESEL ENGINE)
Vehicles with diesel engines have WATER-IN-FUEL/DRAIN FILTER light to warn of excessive water in fuel system. This light is designed to come on momentarily during engine starting as a bulb check. If light does not come on as described or remains on after starting, braking or turning, have the system checked as soon as possible. Extensive damage to fuel injection system could result if water stays in fuel tank, lines or filter.
ALTERNATOR (CHARGING SYSTEM) LIGHT
Light will come on to indicate a possible malfunction in the battery charging system. This light is also designed to come on with the ignition switch is in the ON position to provide a bulb check, but should go out shortly after engine is started. If it does not come on or if it comes on or remains on when engine is running, have the system checked to locate and correct the cause as soon as possible.
ENGINE COOLANT TEMPERATURE LIGHT
Light is designed to come on briefly during engine starting as a bulb check. If it does not come on or if it comes on or remains on while driving, it indicates a potential engine overheating condition and all operations of vehicle should be stopped as soon as possible. Continued operation of engine in this condition, even for a short time, may result in severe vehicle damage.
LOW COOLANT WARNING LIGHT (IF EQUIPPED)
Warning light is designed to come on if the engine coolant level is low by 3 quarts or more. Continued operation of vehicle in this condition without adding coolant may result in damage to engine due to overheating. Light will also come on briefly during engine starting as a bulb check, check fuse and bulb if light fails to come on as it should.
BRAKE WARNING LIGHT
Vehicle is equipped with dual braking system which provides back-up braking capability should a failure occurs in either half of the hydraulic system. If there is a failure to either half of the dual braking system, the warning light will come on. The system should be inspected immediately. This light should come on briefly as a bulb check when engine is first started. The light will also come on with the ignition key in the ON position and the parking brake applied.
SERVICE ENGINE SOON/CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT
Light indicates a malfunction in the engine control system. If functioning correctly, the light comes on when ignition is turned on and goes out when engine is started.
If light fails to come on with ignition or remains on when running, have the system checked and serviced as necessary. Continued driving without having the system serviced could affect fuel economy, driveability and possible damage to the emission control system.
TAILGATE AJAR LIGHT (IF EQUIPPED)
This light will come on when the tailgate on station wagon is opened as a door. Light will remain on until the tailgate is completely closed. Light does not come on if gate is opened as a gate. It can be dangerous to drive with the tailgate open since carbon monoxide can come into your car.
