Fastener Tightening Specifications

EMBLEM/NAMEPLATE REPLACEMENT - FRONT

Note. Tools Required: Heat Gun (J 25070).

Scheme 21: Removal Procedure
  1. Use the tape to protect the mounting surface during removal.
  2. Heat the emblem/nameplate using the J 25070. Apply heat using a circular motion for about 30 seconds. CAUTION: Use a plastic, flat-bladed tool to prevent paint damage when removing an emblem/nameplate.
  3. Use a plastic, flat-bladed tool to remove the emblem/nameplate from the panel surface.
  4. When replacing a emblem/nameplate, remove all adhesive as follows: For body panels use a 3M™ Scotch Brite molding adhesive remover disk 3M™ P/N 07502 or equivalent. For plastic panels use a lint-free cloth and Varnish Makers and Painters (VMP) naphtha or a (50/50 mixture) by volume of isopropyl alcohol and water to remove the adhesive.

Installation Procedure

CAUTIONApply the emblem/nameplate in an environment that is free from dust or other dirt that could come into contact with the sticky backing. Foreign material may cause improper adhesion.
  1. Ensure the area where the emblem/nameplate will be installed is clean and dry.
  2. Position the emblem with the hole in the fender.
  3. Heat the mounting surface to approximately 27-41 °C (80-105°F) using the J 25070, if necessary.
  4. Ensure that the temperature of the emblem/name plate is approximately 29-32°C (85-90°F). NOTE: Do not touch the adhesive backing of the emblem/name plate.
  5. Remove the protective liner from the back of the emblem/name plate.
  6. Position the emblem/name plate to the fender and press the emblem/name plate to the mounting surface.
  7. Apply equal pressure along the emblem/name plate to uniformly bond the item to the mounting surface.
  8. Remove the protective tape.

  3. Use a plastic, flat-bladed tool to remove the emblem/nameplate from the panel surface.

  1. Apply tape for alignment marks to aid in the installation of the emblem/nameplate.
  2. Use the tape to protect the mounting surface during removal.
  3. Heat the emblem/nameplate using the J 25070. Apply heat using a circular motion for about 30 seconds. (Scheme 21) CAUTION: Use a plastic, flat-bladed tool to prevent paint damage when removing an emblem/name plate. (Scheme 22)
  4. Use a plastic, flat-bladed tool to remove the emblem/nameplate from the panel surface.

  3. Heat the mounting surface to approximately 27-41°C (80-105°F) using the J 25070, if necessary.
  4. Ensure that the temperature of the emblem/name plate is approximately 29-32°C (85-90°F). NOTE: Do not touch the adhesive backing of the emblem/name plate.
  5. Remove the protective liner from the back of the emblem/name plate.
  6. Position the emblem/name plate to the location marks and press the emblem/name plate to the mounting surface.
  7. Apply equal pressure along the emblem/name plate to uniformly bond the item to the mounting surface.
  8. Remove the protective tape from the mounting surface.
  1. Open the hood.
  2. Remove the grill retaining nuts from the grill.
  3. Remove the grill from the fascia.

  1. Position the grill into the fascia. CAUTION: Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
  2. Install the grill retaining nuts onto the grill. Tighten the nuts to 6 N.m (53 lb in).
  1. Starting at the rear of the door, split the foam tape using a braided wire or a flat-bladed tool, inserted between the molding and the sheet metal. If using a flat-bladed tool, protect the surrounding surfaces. Use care not to damage the paint.
  2. Remove the door molding from the door.
  3. Clean the old adhesive from the door and the molding (if reusing) with 3M General Purpose Adhesive Cleaner 08984 or equivalent.

  1. If the molding is being reused, apply new adhesive tape to the molding.
  2. Align the molding using the locator pins.
  3. Remove the backing from the tape. NOTE: Wear clean gloves or use a clean towel while performing this step.
  4. Align and press the molding to the door. Ensure proper wet out of the adhesive by applying heavy hand pressure against the molding and rubbing along the entire length of the molding.

  1. If the molding is being reused, apply new adhesive tape to the molding.
  2. Align the molding using the locator pins.
  3. Remove the backing from the tape. NOTE: Wear clean gloves or use a clean towel while performing this step.
  4. Align and press the molding to the door. Ensure proper wet out of the adhesive by applying heavy hand pressure against the molding and rubbing along the entire length of the molding.
  1. Open the front and rear doors.
  2. Starting at the front of the molding, pull the top edge of the rocker molding outward and away from the vehicle.
  3. Pull downward in order to release the molding from the vehicle.

  1. Install the front clip into the slot of the front fender.
  2. Align the moldings retainers to the holes in the side of the rocker panel, and snap the molding into place.
  3. Align the lower retainers to the holes in the bottom of the rocker panel, and snap the molding into place.
  4. Close the doors.
  5. Inspect the molding for proper fit.
