Removal & Installation (3-Series - E46 - With Leak Diagnosis Pump)
Remove screws and expansion rivet. Remove under-car cover. (Scheme 1) Disconnect vacuum line, scavenging air line, intake line for dust filter and line to expansion tank. (Scheme 2) Disconnect electrical connector. Remove bolts and remove carbon canister with leakage diagnosis pump toward bottom. (Scheme 3) To install, reverse removal procedure.

Removal & Installation (3-Series - E46 - Without Leak Diagnosis Pump)
Remove screws and expansion rivet. Remove panel. (Scheme 4) Release locks on fuel lines. Disconnect lines. Remove bolt. Remove carbon canister. (Scheme 5) To install, reverse removal procedure.

Removal & Installation (V8 & V12 - Without Leak Diagnosis Pump)
Remove left rear wheel Remove left rear wheel housing trim. Loosen activated carbon filter. (Scheme 6) Release connections for intake pipe and tank ventilation before pulling off with Special Tool (16 1 050). (Scheme 7) Disconnect ventilation hose, suction tube-to-engine hose and tank venting hose. (Scheme 8) To install, reverse removal procedure.

Removal & Installation (V12 - With Leak Diagnosis Pump)
Remove left rear wheel. Remove left rear wheel housing trim. Pull plug connection and disconnect vacuum hose from leak diagnosis pump. (Scheme 9) Detach vent line and scavenging air line and disconnect it from activated carbon filter. (Scheme 10) Withdraw activated carbon filter from retaining bracket and remove toward front. (Scheme 11) To install, reverse removal procedure.
