Necessary preliminary tasks

  1. Remove flap in luggage compartment panel «51 47 172 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING FLAP IN LUGGAGE COMPARTMENT TRIM, LEFT OR RIGHT»(/bmw/x5/e70-2006-2010/remont/door-locks-anti-theft-systems/#body-equipment-repair__51-47-172-removing-and-installingreplacing) on right.

Fold insulating mat (1) to one side.

Disconnect plug connection (1).

Necessary preliminary tasks

  1. Remove front bumper trim «51 11 FRONT BUMPER»(/bmw/x5/e70-2006-2010/remont/door-locks-anti-theft-systems/#body-equipment-tightening-torques__51-11-front-bumper)

Disconnect plug connection (1) and unclip ultrasonic transducer from retaining lugs (2).

Installation

Retaining lugs (2) must not be damaged!

Make sure ultrasonic transducer is securely seated.

Necessary preliminary tasks

  1. Remove front bumper trim «51 11 FRONT BUMPER»(/bmw/x5/e70-2006-2010/remont/door-locks-anti-theft-systems/#body-equipment-tightening-torques__51-11-front-bumper)

Disconnect plug connection (1) and remove rubber grommet (2).

Installation

Make sure rubber grommet (2) is securely seated.

Unlock retaining tabs (1) in direction of arrow and pull ultrasonic transducer (2) out of holder.

Disconnect plug connection (1) and remove rubber grommet (2).

Installation

Unlock retaining tabs (1) in direction of arrow and pull ultrasonic transducer (2) out of holder.

Installation

Make sure rubber ring (1) is correctly seated on ultrasonic transducer (2).

  6. Setup and Operating Instructions NOTE: A mounting which is not included in the delivery specification is required to support the wheel laser. Use either the quick-action clamp from the existing KDS or ACC wheel holder (36 1 100). NOTE: Follow notes for ACC adjusting device. NOTE: To set the ACC sensor, connect the BMW diagnosis system and fit the ACC adjusting device. Select ACC calibration in diagnosis. Service function Chassis and suspension ACC cruise control Start-up of ACC sensor

Handle ACC adjusting device in accordance with mounting and Owner's Handbook provided with device.

If a correction angle is specified via the diagnosis, the following operations can be performed to obtain a maximum angle correction of ± 1°.

Loosen, but to not remove, screws (1 and 2) at the marked locations. Installation note: Tighten screws (2) followed by screws (1). Tightening torque 66 31 2AZ.

Output of a negative correction angle: Turn holder ACC (1) clockwise (arrow 2) all the way. Output of a positive correction angle: Turn holder ACC (1) counterclockwise (arrow 3) all the way.

66 31 006 Removing and installing (replacing) ACC sensor

Necessary preliminary work

  1. Remove front bumper trim. See «51 11 156 REMOVING AND INSTALLING FRONT BUMPER TRIM»(/bmw/x5/e70-2006-2010/remont/door-locks-anti-theft-systems/#body-equipment-repair__51-11-156-removing-and-installing) .

Note. For a better view, graphic shows rear view with bumper support and ACC sensor removed.

Undo screws in marked area on the rear side of the ACC sensor (1). Tightening torque, see 66 31 1AZ in 66 31 ACC SENSOR . Remove ACC sensor (1) from holder (2).

Unfasten plug connection (1) and disconnect. Remove ACC sensor (2).

Requirements for the measurement area for ACC adjusting device

Dimensions

  1. Area behind the mirror of at least 80 cm that cane be entered
  2. Distance between mirror and vehicle 80 cm +/- 5 cm
  3. Total area of work area 360 cm x 660 cm

66 53 ... Instructions For Adapting Adjustment Unit For Reversing Camera (CORGHI KDS Quick - Action Clamp)

Note. The operation is described for the left-hand side; proceed in the same way for the right-hand side.

Remove support plate (1) from spindle (2).

Replace spindle (2) by spindle (3).

Press support plate (1) on to spindle (3).

Remove ball pin (2) from rod (3).

Fit ball pin (1) on CORGHI KDS quick-release clamp and secure.

66 53 010 Calibrating Reversing Camera

WARNINGDanger of injury! Laser radiation at adjustment unit. Do not look into the beam! Laser class 2 As per EN 60825-1: 1994 P< or = 1 mW Lambda = 632.8 nm

Note. Calibration of reversing camera must be carried out after the following work: Removal and installation/replacement of reversing camera Chassis tuning Body repair work at rear end of vehicle Adjustment of rear lid

IMPORTANTFollow instructions and specifications in test module. To obtain an optimum result, always adhere to the following conditions: Vehicle standing level on headlight aiming station Correct tire inflation pressure (see instruction plate on car). Vehicle is free of load Rear seat bench is unoccupied Do not swap seats during calibration Steering wheel in straight-ahead position Do not move steering wheel

Note. Once the laser has been aligned to the camera lens, it is necessary to calibrate the reversing camera via the DIS Tester. Calibration can only be carried out with the BMW diagnosis system.

Secure KDS quick-action clamp on rear wheels on both sides.

Insert ball pivot (1) in guide (2) up to stop and secure with screw (3).

Dimension (A) of longitudinal rod (1) and dimension (B) of transverse rod (2) must be adapted to the type of vehicle. Refer to 66 53 010 Calibrating Reversing Camera on both sides.

Position target (1) on transverse rod with scale and align to zero point on scale (2).

Secure target (1) using knurled screws (3).

Switch on laser pointer (2) with knurled screw (1).

Align laser pointer first to zero point on scale (3), then upwards to center of BMW badge (4).

In the event of a laser deviation from the BMW badge center, this must be compensated for by shifting the complete linkage in the corresponding direction.

After realigning the target, check the position of the laser again and correct if necessary.

Align contact surface (1) on both sides to tire side wall.

Tighten linkage simultaneously on both sides with adjusting screw (2).

Note. After securing linkage, check position of laser pointer again on vehicle's BMW badge. If necessary, correct by means of adjusting screws.

Slacken knurled screws (2).

Adjust scale value (1) as specified. Refer to 66 53 REVERSING CAMERA

Tighten down knurled screws (2).

Version with ride-height control

  1. Pull fuse F107 in luggage compartment distribution box.

Start calibration of reversing camera by way of BMW diagnosis system.

66 53 020 Replacing Reversing Camera

Necessary preliminary tasks

  1. Disconnect battery negative lead
  2. Remove rear lid upper section panel

Release screws (1).

Disconnect plug connections (2) and carefully feed out reversing camera (3).

Tightening torque 66 54 1AZ, go to 66 53 REVERSING CAMERA

Replacement

Remove protective film from reversing camera lens.

Installation

Moisten seal (1) slightly to facilitate installation.

Seal (1) must be correctly seated in rear lid (2).

Necessary preliminary work

  1. E72 Only: :Remove both negative battery cables.
  2. Clamp off battery negative lead.
  3. Remove trim panel for pedal assembly. See «51 45 185 REMOVING AND INSTALLING/REPLACING PANEL FOR PEDALS»(/bmw/x5/e70-2006-2010/remont/door-locks-anti-theft-systems/#body-equipment-repair__51-45-185-removing-and-installingreplacing) .

Disconnect plug connection (1). Unlock catch (2) in direction of arrow and pull out control unit (3) towards bottom.

66 53 160 Removing and installing (replacing) the Top Rear View control unit

Unlock the retaining lug (1). Remove the control unit (2) from the bracket.

Replacement

  1. Carry out vehicle programming and encoding
  2. Perform the calibration ("Top View" exterior mirror camera only): Mount KDS quick-release clamp on the wheels of the side being calibrated: e.g. front left and rear left. (Mounting the KDS quick-release clamp detects wheel center.) Calibration is performed via BMW diagnosis system: Service function Body All-round vision camera Calibration of all-round vision camera
