DESCRIPTION

Note. For information on mechanical components of this system, see appropriate POWER RECIRCULATING BALL article in this section.

The Servotronic system consists of an electronic speedometer, a control unit and an electro/hydraulic converter. The electro/hydraulic converter is mounted on the body of the steering valve. The speedometer inputs vehicle speed signal to the control unit which electrically controls hydraulic pressure via the electro/hydraulic converter.

When the vehicle is stationary, no speed signal is sent to the control unit; the solenoid valve is closed and pressure is equal in the reaction chambers, allowing light steering control. As speed increases the solenoid valve opens, raising the pressure in the reaction chamber. This produces an opposite turning force resulting in heavier steering effort as speed increases.
