DESCRIPTION
| WARNING | To avoid injury from accidental air bag deployment, read and carefully follow all SERVICE PRECAUTIONS and DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM procedures in AIR BAG SYSTEM SAFETY article under GENERAL SERVICING. |
The A/C-heater system automatically adjusts passenger compartment temperatures via control unit integrated with A/C-heater control panel. (Scheme 5) A/C-heater control unit regulates heater operation through an electromagnetic water valve. The electromagnetic water valve controls flow rate through heater core.
Air temperature is regulated by mixing varying ratios of cold and heated air through a temperature mixing flap. Temperature and air distribution for driver-side and front passenger-side can be controlled separately. All outlets can supply heated, cooled or fresh air according to temperature setting. (Scheme 5)
System uses 5 input sensors: interior temperature sensor, exterior temperature sensor, left heater core temperature sensor, right heater core temperature sensor, and evaporator temperature sensor. Temperature sensors continuously input information to A/C-heater control unit. A/C-heater control unit processes sensor signals and adjusts system temperature accordingly.
Air flow velocity is controlled by the blower motor. Blower motor can be controlled between low and high speeds. If blower motor is at maximum low speed and low speed control is selected, A/C system will turn off. On convertible models, a separate rear blower motor is used to defrost the rear window.
