OIL PAN AND OIL PUMP OVERVIEW
Note. If large quantities of metal particles or other deposits (caused, for example, by partial seizure of the crankshaft or connecting rod damage) are found in the engine oil, the oil passages must be cleaned thoroughly and the oil cooler replaced in order to prevent further damage from occurring.

Lower Oil Pan, Tightening Sequence
Tighten bolts in 3 stages in -1 to 20- sequence as follows

Tighten bolts in 3 stages in -1 to 14- sequence as follows

Oil Separator, Tightening Sequence

OIL LEVEL, CHECKING

Test Prerequisites
- Oil level OK, checking, refer to «ENGINE OIL LEVEL, CHECKING»(/audi/tt/8j-2010-2014/remont/procedures/#how-to-diagnosis-the-maintenance-maintenance-procedures-coupe__engine-oil-level-checking)
- Engine oil temperature at least 80 °C (176 °F) (radiator fan must start up once).
Test Sequence
Note. Place a cloth under the accessory assembly bracket to collect leaking engine oil.
Disconnect the electrical connector -2- on the reduced oil pressure switch -F378-.
Scheme 57
Remove the reduced oil pressure switch -1-.
Screw in the V.A.G 1342 into the oil filter bracket in place of the oil pressure switch.
Install the reduced oil pressure switch in the V.A.G 1342.
Start the engine.
- Oil pressure at idle: 1.2 to 2.1 bar.
- Oil pressure at 2000 RPM: 1.6 to 2.1 bar positive pressure.
- Oil pressure at 3700 RPM: 3.0 to 4.0 bar positive pressure.
Note. During the break-in phase, the oil pressure may be at 2000/min at 3.0 to 4.0 bar.
Assembling
- For the correct tightening specifications, refer to «OIL FILTER AND OIL COOLER OVERVIEW»(/audi/tt/8j-2010-2014/remont/lubrication-system/#20l-lubrication-engine-codes-ccta-ceta-coupe) .
Install the oil pressure switch.
OIL PRESSURE SWITCH, CHECKING
Check the oil pressure switch using the vehicle diagnostic tester.
ENGINE OIL COOLER
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Drip tray for VAS 6100 VAS 6208
Removing
| WARNING | Risk of scalding due to hot steam and hot coolant. The coolant system is under pressure when the engine is warm. Cover the coolant reservoir cap with a cloth and then open it slowly to release the pressure in the system. |
Drain the coolant. Refer to COOLANT, DRAINING AND FILLING .
Remove the accessory assembly bracket. Refer to ACCESSORY ASSEMBLY BRACKET .
Remove the bolts -4 and 5- and remove the engine oil cooler -3- together with the seal -2-.

Installing
Installation is carried out in the reverse order while noting the following
- For the correct tightening specifications, refer to «OIL FILTER AND OIL COOLER OVERVIEW»(/audi/tt/8j-2010-2014/remont/lubrication-system/#20l-lubrication-engine-codes-ccta-ceta-coupe) .
Note. Always replace gaskets and seals. Secure all hose connections with hose clamps of the same type as those equipped by the factory.
Install the engine oil cooler -3- with a new seal -2-.
Install the accessory assembly bracket. Refer to ACCESSORY ASSEMBLY BRACKET .
Replace coolant. Refer to COOLANT, DRAINING AND FILLING => Filling .
LOWER OIL PAN
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Oil Collecting and Extracting Device V.A.G 1782
- Hand drill with plastic brush attachment
- Protective goggles
- Silicone sealant.
Removing
Remove the noise insulation. Refer to Removal and Installation .
Remove the frame for the noise insulation. Refer to Removal and Installation .
Disconnect the connector -1- from the oil level thermal sensor -G266-.
Scheme 59
Drain the engine oil. Refer to ENGINE OIL, DRAINING/EXTRACTING AND REMOVING AND INSTALLING FILTER
Remove the bolts -1 to 20-.
Remove the oil pan, if necessary loosen by applying light strikes with a rubber hammer.
Installing
- For the correct tightening specifications, refer to «OIL PAN AND OIL PUMP OVERVIEW»(/audi/tt/8j-2010-2014/remont/lubrication-system/#20l-lubrication-engine-codes-ccta-ceta-coupe__oil-pan-and-oil-pump-overview) .
| CAUTION | Risk of contaminating lubricating system and bearing. Cover open parts of engine. |
- Silicone sealant.
Note. Note the expiration date of the silicone sealant. The oil pan must be installed within 5 minutes after application of silicone sealant.
Spray the sealing surface with sealant remover and allow it to work.
Remove any sealant residue on the upper section of the oil pan using a flat blade scraper.
| WARNING | Danger of eye injury. Wear protective goggles. |
Remove sealant residue on the lower oil pan, for example with a rotating plastic brush.
Scheme 60
Clean sealing surfaces, must be free of oil and grease.
Cut the tube nozzle at the front marking (nozzle diameter: approximately 3 mm).
Scheme 61
Apply silicon sealant to clean sealing surfaces of the lower oil pan as shown in illustration.
Scheme 62
| CAUTION | The lubrication system could be plugged with excess sealant. Do not apply sealant bead thicker than indicated. |
- Thickness of sealant bead: 2 to 3 mm
Note. The oil pan must be installed within 5 minutes after application of silicon sealant. The sealant bead may not be thicker than specified, otherwise excess sealant could enter the oil pan and clog the oil intake tube.
Position the lower oil pan immediately and tighten the bolts, tightening sequence (Scheme 54).
Note. After installing the oil pan, allow sealant to dry for approximately 30 minutes. Only after then may the engine oil be replenished.
Fill engine oil and check oil level. Refer to: ENGINE OIL, FILLING and refer to ENGINE OIL LEVEL, CHECKING .
Assemble in reverse order of disassembly.
Oil Pressure Regulation Valve -N428
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Oil Collecting and Extracting Device V.A.G 1782
Removing
Remove the noise insulation. Refer to Removal and Installation .
Place the V.A.G 1782 under the engine.

Disconnect the connector -1-.
Remove the bolt -2- and the oil pressure regulation valve -3-.
Installing

Oil Pressure Switch -F22
Removing

Disconnect electrical connector -4- on oil pressure switch.
Remove the oil pressure switch -3-.
Installing

Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following
Note. Replace the seal. To prevent coolant loss, insert the new oil pressure switch in the connecting pieces immediately.

OIL PUMP

Removing
Remove the noise insulation. Refer to Removal and Installation .
Remove the frame for the noise insulation. Refer to Removal and Installation .
Disconnect the connector -1- from the oil level thermal sensor -G266-.
Drain engine oil.
Remove the bolts -1 through 20-.
Remove oil pan, if necessary loosen by applying light strikes with a rubber hammer.
Remove the oil baffle -arrows-.

Remove the bolts -arrows- and the oil pump.

Pull the chain tensioner in the direction of the -arrow- using the T10118 and remove the oil pump with the chain sprocket.

Make sure both alignment bushings for centering the oil pump are in there.
Replace the baffle plate.

OIL SEPARATOR
Removing
Remove the noise insulation. Refer to Removal and Installation .
Remove the frame for the noise insulation. Refer to Removal and Installation .
Remove the bolts -1 through 9- and remove the oil separator.
| CAUTION | Risk of contaminating lubricating system. Seal the opening with a clean cloth. |
Installing
Note. Always replace gaskets and seals. Secure all the hose connections with hose clamps appropriate for the model.
Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following

Reduced Oil Pressure Switch -F378
Removing

UPPER OIL PAN

- Brake Pad Wear Indicator Testing Tool VW 136
- Torque Wrench 5-50 Nm V.A.G 1331
- Hand drill with plastic brush attachment
- Protective goggles
- Silicone sealant.
Removing
Remove the transmission. Refer to Removal and Installation .
Remove the lower oil pan. Refer to LOWER OIL PAN .
Remove the oil pump. Refer to OIL PUMP .
Remove the transmission-side sealing flange. Refer to TRANSMISSION-SIDE SEALING FLANGE .
Remove the right front wheel housing liner. Refer to Wheel Housing Liners .
Remove the bolts -arrows-.

Lift the clamps -1 and 2- and remove the air guide pipe.
Remove the bolt -1

Disconnect the wiring bracket mount next to the after-run coolant pump -V51- from the upper oil pan.
Disconnect the connector -1-.

| WARNING | Risk of injury. When removing the upper oil pan the chain tensioner spring for the oil pump motor will jump from the upper oil pan to the lower timing chain cover. When removing the upper oil pan, do not reach between the section and the lower timing chain cover. |
Remove the bolts -1 through 14- and pry out the upper oil pan.
Note. There may be 13 bolts installed, depending on the version.
| CAUTION | First pry the upper oil pan out on the transmission side. When prying out, be careful not to bend the timing chain cover. |
Installing
- For the correct tightening specifications, refer to «OIL PAN AND OIL PUMP OVERVIEW»(/audi/tt/8j-2010-2014/remont/lubrication-system/#20l-lubrication-engine-codes-ccta-ceta-coupe__oil-pan-and-oil-pump-overview)
- Silicone sealant.
Note. Note the expiration date of the silicone sealant. The oil pan (upper section) must be installed within 5 minutes after application of silicone sealant.
Mount the T10118 and pull the spring in the oil pump drive chain tensioner in the direction of the -arrow-.
Scheme 70
Secure the spring by inserting the VW 136 into the hole in the guide rail as illustrated.
Remove any sealant residue on the cylinder block using a flat blade scraper.

Remove the sealant residue on the upper oil pan, for example using a rotating plastic brush.
Scheme 71
Clean sealing surfaces, must be free of oil and grease.
Cut the tube nozzle at the front marking (nozzle diameter: approximately 3 mm).
Apply silicone sealant to clean sealing surface upper oil pan as shown in the illustration -arrows-.

Install the bolts -arrows-. Tightening specification, refer to TIMING CHAIN GUARD AND Camshaft Adjustment Valve 1 -N205- OVERVIEW .
Remove the VW 136 from the guide rail -arrow-. The spring now returns to the installation position.

Install the sealing flange on the transmission side. Refer to TRANSMISSION-SIDE SEALING FLANGE .
Install the oil pump. Refer to OIL PUMP .
Replace the baffle plate.
Install the lower timing chain cover. Refer to LOWER TIMING CHAIN COVER .
Assemble in reverse order of disassembly.
