Exterior rear-view mirror, removing and installing

Note. The following list refers to (Scheme 1).

  1. Mirror housing Can be removed from door without disassembling complete rear-view mirror. See «EXTERIOR MIRROR HOUSING, REPLACING»(/audi/s6/c5-1999-2004/remont/mirrors/#exterior-equipment__exterior-mirror-housing-replacing) .
  2. Mirror adjustment unit Before removing, disassemble rear-view mirror from door To remove, pry off mirror glass, disconnect harness connectors for mirror heater, unscrew Phillips-head screws -6- and remove mirror adjustment unit from mirror housing -1- NOTE: On vehicles with seat memory, door trim panel has to be removed before disassembling the mirror adjustment unit.
  3. Door component carrier
  4. Socket-head screw 12 Nm (9 ft lb)
  5. Seal When installing, make sure seal is installed correctly
  6. Phillips-head screw 1 Nm (9 in. lb)
  7. Mirror glass Use 80-200 lever to unclip mirror glass Protect mirror housing from damage by applying fabric reinforced adhesive tape at top and bottom of housing Press off mirror glass, first at bottom then at top. Installing: Insert mirror glass into guide stud and friction finger into friction spring and press on. Press only on center of mirror (always use protective gloves).
  8. Friction finger When installing mirror glass, friction finger -8- must be inserted into friction spring -9- in housing

Exterior mirror housing, replacing

  1. Remove mirror glass.
  2. Remove screws -4- (Qty. 2).
  3. Press back locking lugs -2- and detach cover -3- downward.
  4. Remove screws -1- at mirror adjustment unit (Qty. 3).
  5. Lift off housing -5- upward.

Power mirror adjustment unit, replacing

CAUTIONOn vehicles equipped with Audi Telematics by OnStar(R), switch-off the emergency (back-up) battery for the Telematic/Telephone Control Module prior to disconnecting the vehicle battery. Switch-on the emergency (back-up) battery after reconnecting the vehicle battery. See EXAMPLE: SWITCH ON EMERGENCY (BACK-UP) BATTERY .
  1. Disconnect battery Ground (GND) strap.
  2. Remove mirror glass.
  3. Remove screws -1- (Qty. 3). Tightening torque: 1 Nm (9 in. lb)
  4. If mirror adjustment units has harness connectors, disconnect before disassembling.

Note. In the mirror adjustment unit has soldered wiring, the electric leads must be separated individually directly at the housing.

  1. Install wiring in connector housing supplied with replacement part.

Note. Note configuration of wiring on old adjustment unit.

Front wheel housing liner

  1. Front wheel housing liner Removing: Remove front wheels Release quick-locking pins -3- Remove Torx(R) (T25) bolts -2- (19x) Pull wheel housing downward to remove from fender
  2. Torx(R) bolt (T25) 15 Nm (11 ft. lb) 19x
  3. Quick-locking pins For noise insulation 2x

Wheelhousing liner, front

Note. The following list refers to see scheme 5.

  1. Fender
  2. Torx(R) bolt (T25) 1.5 Nm (13 in. lb)
  3. Wheelhousing liner, front Remove front wheel prior to removing wheelhousing liner Removing: Release clamping pins -6-. Remove Torx(R) bolts -2- (Qty. 3). Disengage wheelhousing liner from fender and pull out in downward direction.
  4. Expanding nuts Qty. 13
  5. Sill panel trim

Wheelhousing liner, rear

Note. The following list refers to see scheme 6.

  1. Rear wheelhousing liner Remove rear wheel before removing wheelhousing liner Remove screws -2- and cap nut -4-. Remove wheelhousing liner and pull out in downward direction.
  2. Self-tapping screw 1.5 Nm (13 in. lb)
  3. Expanding nut
  4. Cap nut 1.5 Nm (13 in. lb)
