Restrictor version

  1. Since November 1997, restrictors with a smaller hole have been installed in production, and are colored (at first yellow) so that they can be identified.

Note. Since November 1997, restrictors with a modified hole (colored) have been installed during production. For vehicles in which modified restrictors are installed, the capacity was increased by 50 grams. In order to differentiate the two restrictor versions, the restrictor with the smaller hole (restricted portion) is colored (for the meantime, yellow). lf a colored restrictor is installed in a vehicle in which the previous restrictor had not been colored, 50 grams more refrigerant should be added. In addition, the capacity specification on the information plate affixed in the vehicle should be checked and corrected if necessary, or the original information plate should be replaced with a information plate indicating the correct capacity (affix on top of previous one). There was a running change in production from the version 1 air conditioner to the version 2 air conditioner starting in August/September 1998. Since the evaporator was also modified along with the air conditioner, the capacity could be reduced. The two air conditioner versions can be differentiated via specific characteristics. See AIR CONDITIONING CHANGES . For the Audi A6, different compressors are installed depending on the engine and production time.

In March 1999, there was a running change in production from condensers with flat tube dimensions 20 mm x 3 mm (part number4BO 260 401 and indices, "F" or "E") to condensers with flat tube dimensions 18 mm x 1.7 mm (part number4BO 260 401 and indices, "H" or "J"). If a condenser with different flat tube dimensions is installed, the capacity specification on the information plate must be corrected or, if necessary, a corrected information plate must be affixed over the existing information plate. The part number is on a sticker that is affixed to the underside of the condenser.

For the Audi A6 with 8-cyl. engine, only "Denso" compressors are installed. There was a running change in production from the version 1 air conditioner to the version 2 air conditioner starting in August/September1998. Since the evaporator was also modified along with the air conditioner, the capacity could be reduced. The two air conditioner versions can be differentiated via specific characteristics. See AIR CONDITIONING CHANGES . For vehicles with 8-cyl. engines, only version "2" air conditioners are installed, different condensers are also installed in these vehicles. In March 1999 (as of production start for USA vehicles) production was changed to condensers with part number 4B3 260 401 C. If the installed condenser is replaced with a condenser with a different part number, the capacity specification on the information plate must be corrected or, if necessary, a corrected information plate must be affixed over the existing information plate. The part number is on a sticker that is affixed to the underside of the condenser. 4 For vehicles with 8-cyl. engines, different condensers are installed. In vehicles intended for the USA, only condensers with part number 4B3 260 401 C are installed.
