TRIM

Removing

Bring left seat into service position. Refer to DRIVER SEAT, BRINGING INTO SERVICE POSITION .

Switch off the ignition.

Remove assembly cover ASSEMBLY COVER .

Remove screws -2- from trim panel -1-.

Press tabs -1- (quantity: 4) in -direction of arrow- and unclip trim panel -2- in front area.

Pull off trim -2- as far as the switch wires allow.

Disconnect connector -1- at Driver Seat Lumbar Support Adjustment Switch -E176- -2-.

Disconnect connectors -3- and -5- from housing -4-.

The following switches are installed in the housing -4

  1. Seat Fore/Aft Adjustment Button -E418
  2. Inclination Adjustment Button -E421
  3. Seat Height Adjustment Button -E424
  4. Backrest Adjustment Button -E425

Remove the trim.

Installation

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following

Note. Make sure the connectors are installed all the way in and are secure. Make sure the wires do not get caught.

Tightening specifications, refer to SILL AND TUNNEL SIDE TRIM PANELS and DRIVER SEAT BRACKET ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW

Note. The tunnel side trim can be removed and installed with the front seat installed.

Removing

Disengage fastening strip -1- on footwell cover -2- from brackets -4- (quantity: 2) on trim -3-.

Remove expanding rivets -4- (quantity: 2).

  1. Retaining strip
  2. Footwell cover
  3. Trim

Disengage tunnel side trim -1- in the front seat/backrest cover area -arrow-.

Remove tunnel side trim panel -1- upward.

Installation

Install in reverse order of removal.

Special tools and workshop equipment required

  1. Engine and transmission holder VAS 6095
  2. Fixture for seat repair VAS 6136

Note. The removal and installation procedure describes a driver seat. The procedure for the front passenger seat is identical.

Removing

WARNINGFollow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components. Refer to RESTRAINT SYSTEM COMPONENTS, SAFETY PRECAUTIONS AND GENERAL INFORMATION .

Remove the front seat. Refer to DRIVER SEAT ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW .

Mount the fixture for seat repair VAS 6136 on the engine and transmission holder VAS 6095.

Attach the seat to the fixture for seat repair VAS 6136.

Remove trim. Refer to TRIM .

Remove tunnel side trim panel. Refer to TUNNEL SIDE TRIM .

Create photos or sketches of wire securing and routing.

Disconnect connectors and remove wiring -2- from seat pan spring mat -6-.

Disengage retaining strip -2- from lower seat frame -1-.

Disengage tabs -5- (quantity: 4) from seat pan spring mat -6-.

Remove the bolts -3-.

Tip backrest -1- forward onto seat pan -6-.

Push padding to side and carefully pull wiring harness -2- from seat pan -6-.

Remove backrest -1-.

Installation

WARNINGFollow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components. Refer to RESTRAINT SYSTEM COMPONENTS, SAFETY PRECAUTIONS AND GENERAL INFORMATION .

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following

Cut threads in backrest frame before installing new screws -3- (quantity: 4).

Replace screws -3- (quantity: 4) after each removal.

WARNINGBefore handling airbag units (for example, when disconnecting the harness connector), the person handling them must "discharge static electricity". For example, by briefly touching the door striker pin.

Route and secure wiring according to photos or sketches that were made.

Ensure all connectors are engaged correctly.

Note. Make sure the connectors are installed all the way in and are secure. Make sure the wires do not get caught.

WARNINGIgnition must be on when connecting battery. If pyrotechnic components (for example, airbag, belt tensioner) are not repaired correctly, they may deploy unintentionally after connecting battery. Maintain personal safety when connecting the battery by staying out of airbag deployment areas, keeping a distance from belt tensioners/seat belts and ensuring no other people are in the vehicle interior at the moment when the battery is connected.

Switch on ignition.

Connect the battery ground cable with the ignition turned on. Refer to BATTERY, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .

If the airbag indicator lamp -K75- indicates a fault after installation, the DTC memory must be checked, deleted and checked again. Refer to Vehicle diagnostic tester.

Removal and installation are described for a manual front seat (standard seat). Removing a Comfort seat is identical.

The installation procedure is described for a manual front seat (standard seat). Removing a Comfort seat is identical.

Note. Removal and installation of the backrest cover are described on the basis of a front seat with an active head restraint system. Removal and installation for a front seat without an active head restraint system are similar.

Removing

Remove the front seat. Refer to DRIVER SEAT ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW .

Mount the fixture for seat repair VAS 6136 on the engine and transmission holder VAS 6095.

Attach the front seat to the fixture for seat repair VAS 6136.

On underside of seat, disengage footwell cover -6- with tabs -5- (quantity: 4) from spring mat.

Disengage retaining strip -2- from seat frame -1-.

Disengage fastening strip -1- on footwell cover -2- from brackets -4- (quantity: 2) on sill side and tunnel side trim panel -3-.

Press the backrest cover -3- in -direction of arrow- to disengage spring clamps -2- (quantity: 3).

Pull backrest cover -3- upward and disengage brackets -4- (quantity: 2).

Remove backrest cover -3-.

Installation

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following
