- The aluminum bolts -1 through 11- can be used 2 times. Therefore, the bolts must be marked with two notches "X" made by a chisel after they have be used the first time -arrow-.
- To prevent damaging the bolts when marking them, do not clamp them in a vise. Insert the bolt using a 14 mm socket with a 1 / 2 drive, which is inserted in to the vise, as illustrated.
- Bolts marked with an "X" may not be used again.

Checking position of torque converter.
- When the converter is installed correctly, the distance -a- between the lower contact surfaces on threaded holes and on the torque converter and torque converter bell housing contact surfaces is at least 23 mm.
| WARNING | Danger of causing damage to the torque converter drive plate or the ATF pump. The distance is approximately 11 mm when the torque converter is not fully installed. |
Turn the torque converter and the engine drive plate before connecting the engine and the transmission so that the holes for the bolts -1- are at the same height as the opening on the removed starter.
Ensure no lines are kinked when sliding engine and transmission together.
Always use new bolts to secure the torque converter to the drive plate
Tighten the torque converter. Refer to TORQUE CONVERTER OVERVIEW .
Install the starter. Refer to STARTER [for engine(s) CATA] .
Install the front driveshaft. Refer to FRONT FINAL DRIVE .
Install the rear driveshaft. Refer to REAR FINAL DRIVE .
Install the ATF pipes. Refer to ATF PIPES AND ATF COOLER .
Check the connectors -1 through 3- for water entry or corrosion before connecting them to the transmission. Repair them if necessary.
Attach the front driveshaft to the transfer case. Refer to FRONT FINAL DRIVE .
Vehicles with a 3.0L TFSI Engine
Install the left rear coolant pipes. Refer to LEFT REAR COOLANT PIPE .
