ENGINE CARRIER
Removing
Remove the left and right engine bracket. Refer to ENGINE MOUNT .
Remove the 2 bolts and then remove the steering gear heat shield -A-.
| CAUTION | Risk of distorting airbag spiral spring. Separate universal joint from steering gear only when front wheels are in straight ahead position. Secure steering wheel with adhesive tape to prevent position of steering wheel and steering gear from changing. |
Remove the universal joint bolt -B-. Refer to Description and Operation .
Remove universal joint from steering gear.
Remove the nut -1- on the right longitudinal member and disconnect the ground (GND) wire form the threaded pin.
Remove the left and right coupling rod nuts -arrow- on the stabilizer bar.

Remove the bolt -arrow- and move the fuel cooler pump -V166- to the side.
Remove the bolts -arrows-.

Lift the clips -1-, loosen the hose clamps -3- and -4- and remove the air duct hoses.
Remove the air duct pipe.
Note. Ignore -2-.
Vehicles Built from 06.10
Remove the cover -2-.

Remove the bolt -3- and the balance weight -1-.
All Vehicles
Mark location of subframe and engine carrier to longitudinal members with a felt-tip pen.
| WARNING | The subframe could cause an accident if it is not secured. The subframe bolts -2- and the transmission carrier bolts -1- must never be loosened. |
Remove the bolts -3- and -4- then lower the subframe with the front engine carrier.
Remove engine carrier forward.
Installing
Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following
- Tightening specifications, refer to «SUBFRAME ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW»(ref-491745-S03135827522012073100000), see scheme 175.
Note. The hose connections as well as the air guide pipes and hoses must be free of oil and grease before installing. Secure all hose connections with hose clamps appropriate for the model
Install the engine carrier.
Install the air guide pipe. Refer to AIR DUCT PIPES AND AIR DUCT HOSES OVERVIEW, VEHICLES BUILT THROUGH 05.10 .
Install subframe. Refer to Removal and Installation .
Tighten the fuel cooler pump -V166- to the longitudinal member. (Scheme 418)
Install universal joint on steering gear. Refer to Description and Operation .
Install engine bracket. Refer to ENGINE MOUNT .
