Procedure
Note. With lock carrier installed, the engine is removed downward with transmission and subframe. During installation, cable ties must be installed at the same location.
On vehicles with air suspension, activate vehicle lift mode. Refer to General Information .

Disconnect the Ground (GND) cable -4-. Refer to BATTERY, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .

Extract the power steering fluid from the power steering reservoir using the V.A.G 1782.
| WARNING | Risk of scalding due to hot steam and hot coolant. The coolant system is under pressure when the engine is warm. Cover the coolant reservoir cap with a cloth and then open it slowly to release the pressure in the system. |
Open the coolant reservoir cap.
Remove the noise insulation -1 and 2-. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Remove the coolant hose from the engine oil cooler by loosening the hose clamp -arrow- and letting the coolant drain out.

Free up the fuel supply line in the center of the plenum chamber bulkhead.

Roll up the protective boot to disconnect the fuel supply line -1-.

Push the hose coupling -2- on the fuel line -arrow A- and then press the release buttons -arrows B-.
Remove the hose coupling with the release buttons pressed.
Unlock the brackets -3 and 4-, lay them on the engine and free up the fuel supply hose.
Press the release buttons and disconnect the hose -1- from the EVAP canister.

Disconnect the brake booster vacuum line -2-, free it up and lay it on the right side of the vehicle.
Remove the vacuum hose -1- from the air guide pipe connection.

To release the tension on the ribbed belt, swivel the tensioner clockwise -arrow- and then lock the tensioner using a T10060 A.
Remove the ribbed belt from the Air Conditioning (A/C) compressor.
Note. Place a cloth below to catch the draining hydraulic fluid.
Remove the banjo bolt -1-.

Open the tab -4- and open the cover -5- -arrow-.

Carefully remove plenum chamber cover -2- from the retainer on the windshield.
Remove the bolts -arrows- and the engine compartment E-box plenum chamber.

Disconnect electrical connectors -1 through 3- at E-box plenum chamber connector station.

Free up the wiring harness.
Remove the nut -2- and remove the GND wire.

- Engine secured with VAS 6131/13-7.

Remove joint support VAS 6131/13-7 from engine -arrow-.
Raise engine from engine carrier.
Remove the bolts -arrows- and remove the right -1- and left engine supports.
Secure the engine to the VAS 6095/1 and VAS 6095/1-5 on the VAS 6095 to 40 Nm, as illustrated.

Procedure
Note. Replace bolts that are tightened to the specification. Replace self-locking nuts and bolts and seals, gaskets and O-rings. Only remove the plugs or caps after installing the lines. The hose connections as well as the air guide pipes and hoses must be free of oil and grease before installing. To mount the air guide hoses on their connectors securely, spray the bolts on the used clamps with rust remover before installing. When installing, bring all cable ties back to same positions.
Install the left and right engine supports. Refer to SUBFRAME ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW .
Make sure the alignment sleeves -A- for centering the engine and transmission are inside the cylinder block and inside the timing chain guard lower section. Replace them if they are missing.

| CAUTION | Installing the torque converter incorrectly can cause damage to the ATF pump drive plate. Checking position of torque converter. |
- When torque converter is installed correctly, distance -a- between the lower contact surface of threaded holes at torque converter and contact surface of bell housing is at least 23 mm.
Note. If torque converter is not completely inserted, distance is approximately 11 mm.
Before guiding engine and transmission together, rotate torque converter and drive plate so that the holes for the bolts are same height as opening for removed starter -1-.
| CAUTION | Risk of destroying automatic transmission. Keep checking whether the torque converter behind the drive plate can be turned before and during tightening of the bolts at engine/transmission connection. If the torque converter cannot be turned, it must be assumed that it is inserted incorrectly. Only secure torque converter to drive plate with new original bolts. |
Install the generator. Refer to GENERATOR .
Tighten the transmission to the engine.
Tighten the torque converter. Refer to FASTENER TIGHTENING SPECIFICATIONS .
The rest of the installation is performed in reverse order of removal, noting the following.
Install the starter. Refer to STARTER .
Attach the right coolant pipe to the transmission. Refer to RIGHT COOLANT PIPE ON TRANSMISSION .
Install the left rear coolant pipes to the transmission. Refer to LEFT REAR COOLANT PIPES ON TRANSMISSION .
Install ATF lines. Refer to ATF PIPES AND ATF COOLER .
Attach the front driveshaft to the transfer case. Refer to FRONT DRIVESHAFT .
Raise the engine/transmission assembly using the VAS 6131 A.
Install Air Conditioning (A/C) compressor. Refer to [For engine(s) CJWC, CJWB] Removal and Installation .
Align subframe, engine carrier and transmission carrier using marks made on longitudinal during removal.
Tighten bolts for the subframe, engine carrier and transmission carrier only to specified torque. Refer to FASTENER TIGHTENING SPECIFICATIONS . Do not tighten further (tighten bolts only after axle alignment).
| WARNING | Risk of accident due to loose connections. If the bolts in the subframe are not tightened to final torque, vehicle must not be driven. |
Install the universal joint on the steering gear. Refer to Removal and Installation .
Install the selector lever cable and adjust if necessary. Refer to SELECTOR LEVER CABLE .
Install the catalytic converter. Refer to LEFT CATALYTIC CONVERTER , RIGHT CATALYTIC CONVERTER .
Install exhaust system free of stress. Refer to EXHAUST SYSTEM, INSTALLING .
Attach the rear driveshaft to the transfer case. Refer to REAR DRIVESHAFT .
Install stabilizer bar. Refer to Removal and Installation .
Install brake caliper. Refer to Removal and Installation .
Install the suspension struts and control arms. Refer to Removal and Installation .
Install the Engine Control Module (ECM). Refer to Removal and Installation .
Install the cover for the plenum chamber E-box. Refer to [For engine(s) CJWC, CJWB] Removal and Installation .
Attach the electric wire to the battery jump start terminal -U6-. Refer to BATTERY JUMP START TERMINAL -U6 .
Attach the ground connection to the right longitudinal member. see scheme 76
Electrical connectors and wiring routing. Refer to appropriate SYSTEM WIRING DIAGRAM.
Follow all steps after connecting the battery. Refer to BATTERY, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .
| CAUTION | There is a risk of destroying control modules with excess voltage. Do not use a charger as a starting aid. |
Install the hydraulic pipe. Refer to Description and Operation .
Install and adjust the windshield wiper arms. Refer to WINDSHIELD WIPER SYSTEM .
Fill engine oil and check oil level. Refer to the Maintenance Procedures Rep. Gr. 03.
Before starting engine for the first time, check the fluid level in power steering reservoir. Refer to Description and Operation .
Note. The power steering pump must not run dry.
Connect the coolant hoses with the connector coupling. (Scheme 122)
Scheme 122
Fill the coolant system COOLANT, DRAINING AND FILLING .
Note. Only reuse drained coolant if cylinder head or engine block was not replaced. Dirty coolant may not be used again.
Align subframe and engine carrier. Refer to Removal and Installation .
Align and tighten the transmission carrier. Refer to TRANSMISSION, INSTALLING .
Install the front wheel housing liners. Refer to Removal and Installation .
Perform axle alignment. Refer to WHEEL ALIGNMENT .
| WARNING | Risk of accident due to loose connections. Tighten subframe bolts to final torque after axle alignment. |
Install the noise insulation bracket and the noise insulation. Refer to Removal and Installation .
On vehicles with air suspension, deactivate vehicle lift mode. Refer to General Information .
ENGINE CARRIER

Removing
On vehicles with air suspension, activate vehicle lift mode. Refer to General Information .
| CAUTION | Risk of destroying electronic components when disconnecting the battery. Observe measures for disconnecting battery. |
Disconnect the Ground (GND) cable -4-. Refer to BATTERY, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .
Remove the air filter housing. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Remove the noise insulation -1 and 2-. Refer to Removal and Installation .
Remove the left and right front wheel housing liners. Refer to Removal and Installation .
Remove the stabilizer bar. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Mount the 10 - 222 A and the 10 - 222 A /22 and the engine supplement set T40091/3 on the fender bolting edge.
Scheme 125
Install the other parts as illustrated. Position the 10 - 222 A /19 on the notches on the longitudinal members.
Scheme 126
Engage the 10 - 222 A /10 into the rear engine lift eyes.
Slide supports T40091/2 with both sliders T40093/5 into both mounts T40093/4.
Scheme 127
Install the long spindles from the 10 - 222 A and attach the hooks to the engine lifting eyes.
| WARNING | There is the risk of an accident. Secure support T40091/2 with connector pins and T40093/4. |
Slightly tension the engine but do not lift it.
Remove the left and right bolts -arrows- from the engine mount.
Note. Ignore -1-.
Remove the 2 bolts and then remove the steering gear heat shield -A-.
| CAUTION | The airbag spiral spring could be damaged. Separate the universal joint from steering gear only when the front wheels are in the straight ahead position. Do not change steering wheel position and steering gear position any more, secure steering wheel with adhesive tape. |
Remove the universal joint bolt -B-. Refer to Removal and Installation .
Remove universal joint from steering gear.
Free up the coolant hoses -arrow-.

Disengage the power steering hydraulic line from the left bracket on the subframe.
Disconnect the connector -3-.
Scheme 129
Press the release buttons and remove the secondary air hoses -1-.
Remove the nuts -2- and loosen the nut -5-.
Remove the Secondary Air Injection (AIR) pump motor -V101- and bracket.
Note. Ignore -4-.
Mark location of the subframe and engine carrier to the longitudinal members with a felt-tip pen.
| WARNING | The subframe could cause an accident if it is not secured. The subframe bolts -2- and the transmission carrier bolts -1- must never be loosened. |
Remove the bolts -3 and 4- then lower the subframe with the front engine carrier.
Remove engine carrier forward.
Installing
Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following
- For the correct tightening specifications, refer to «SUBFRAME ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW»(/audi/q7/4l-2009-2015/remont/mechanical/#30l-engine-assembly-engine-codes-cjwb-cjwc-cjwe) .
Note. The hose connections as well as the air guide pipes and hoses must be free of oil and grease before installing.
Tighten the subframe. Refer to Removal and Installation .
Install the AIR pump motor. Refer to Secondary Air Injection (AIR) Pump Motor -V101 .
Install the universal joint on the steering gear. Refer to Removal and Installation .
Install the engine mount. Refer to ENGINE MOUNT .
Install the stabilizer bar. Refer to Removal and Installation .
Install the front wheel housing liners and noise insulation. Refer to Removal and Installation .
Install the air filter housing. Refer to Removal and Installation .
Follow all steps after connecting the battery. Refer to BATTERY, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .
On vehicles with air suspension, deactivate vehicle lift mode. Refer to General Information .
ENGINE MOUNT

Removing
On vehicles with air suspension, activate vehicle lift mode. Refer to General Information .
Remove the air filter housing. Refer to Removal and Installation .
Remove the noise insulation -1 and 2-. Refer to Removal and Installation .
Mount the 10 - 222 A with the 10 - 222 A /22 and T40091/3 on the fender bolting edge as illustrated.
Install the other parts as illustrated. Position the 10 - 222 A /19 on the notches on the longitudinal members.
Engage the 10 - 222 A /10 into the rear engine lift eyes.
Slide supports T40091/2 with both sliders T40093/5 into both mounts T40093/4.
Install the long spindles from the 10 - 222 A and attach the hooks to the engine lifting eyes.
| WARNING | There is the risk of an accident. Secure support T40091/2 with connector pins and T40093/4. |
Raise engine until the engine supports are above the engine bracket threaded pins and evenly tension all spindles to achieve even weight distribution.
Right Engine Mount

Remove the bolts -1- and remove the heat shield for the steering gear boot.
Continued for Both Sides
Remove the nut -1- and the bolts -arrows-.
Raise the engine using the spindles far enough so the engine support is above the threaded pins in the engine mount.
Remove the engine mount.
Note. To remove the right engine support, turn the steering to the right until it stops.
Installing
Install in reverse order, paying attention to the following
