DOOR, ADJUSTING

The min and max markings are used to check the lateral adjustment.

The recess in the center of the template is used for checking the height.

The 0.6 mm graduation is used to check the recess of the trim on the B-pillar from the rear door to the front door.

Note. All dimensions are given in mm. All dimension tolerances are ± 0.5 mm The parallel alignment of the gap must not exceed 0.5 mm.

Remove the B-pillar trim. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Remove the B-pillar coupling station. Refer to [For engine(s) CAEB, CALB] Removal and Installation .

Scheme 65: ADJUSTMENT IN LONGITUDINAL DIRECTION

Loosen the bolts -B arrows- on the top and bottom of the hinge and on the A-pillar -1-.

Adjust the door -2- lengthwise.

Tighten the bolts -B arrows-.

Height Adjustment

Note. The hinge screws on the door, refer to DOOR ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW are so-called fitting screws, therefore it is not necessary to adjust the door using these screws. If it is necessary to make an adjustment using the bolts, the bolt can be replaced with one of the same length and strength category.

Use the template T40038 /9 for adjusting.

Place the template in distance -a- = 150 mm and/or -b- = 50 mm.

When correctly adjusted, the template must contact the roof and trim strip point 1 (arrows) as illustrated.

At point 2 the bottom of the window guide must be inside the groove.

Adjustment to Center of Vehicle

Loosen the bolts -A arrows-, refer to ADJUSTMENT IN LONGITUDINAL DIRECTION on the top and bottom of the hinge.

Adjust the door -2- lengthwise.

Tighten the bolts -A arrows-.

For checking, use the template T40038 /9

Place the template in distance -a- = 150 mm and/or -b- = 50 mm.

For the min position, points 1 and 3 must touch.

Point 2 may show a gap.

For the max position, points 2 and 3 must touch.

Point 1 may show a gap.

Note. Only work from the center of the vehicle out when adjusting at the striker pin. Do not adjust the door height using the striker pin because the door lock will be damaged.

Loosen the bolts -2-.

Slide the striker pin -1- until the door is flush with the body contours.

Striker pin must align in door lock center for correct adjustment.

Tighten the bolts -2-.

Removing

Scheme 73: DOOR

Disconnect the connectors on the A-pillar. Refer to [For engine(s) CAEB, CALB] Removal and Installation .

Remove the door arrester bolt -2-.

Remove the cover caps -1- and -3- from the stud bolts.

Remove the stud bolts -4- on the upper and lower door hinge.

CAUTIONProtect the painted surfaces on the door or on the side panel from damage.

Carefully remove the door upward out of the door hinges.

Installation

Note. Do not make any adjustments after installing the door.

Inner Door Seal

  1. Inner Door Seal Connected all around on body flange To remove, remove from body flange. When installing, align the seal with the center of the vulcanized joint on the lower hinge and press it by hand onto the body flange.

Outer Door Seal

Note. The door seal is completely bonded and can only be replaced. Adhesion surfaces must be free of dust and grease.

  1. Door Seal NOTE: Before removing, mark the position on the door, for example with adhesive tape. Make sure there is no adhesive left on the door, first pull the seal lengthwise and then pull it off the door. -- Slightly lift the seal at the top of the door frame and cut it with scissors. Removal: -- First pull the seal lengthwise, then remove it. Refer to «REMOVE THE DOOR SEAL»(/audi/q5/i-2008-2012/remont/windows/#rear-doors) -- Clean the adhesive surfaces. If necessary, remove any remaining adhesive with adhesive strip remover VAS 6349. -- Remove the door check on the body «REMOVE THE DOOR ARRESTER»(/audi/q5/i-2008-2012/remont/windows/#rear-doors) -- Pull the door seal behind the door arrester. -- Remove the protective foil at the top of the corner of the door. -- Mount the door seal with the markings to the top of the door at the corner and lightly press on it. -- Remove the protective strip and press the door seal onto the door. CAUTION: Do not stretch the seal when installing it. Affix the new seal according to the markings and then press it on secure using a roller 3356.

Scheme 77: REMOVE THE DOOR ARRESTER

Remove the door arrester bolt -arrow-.

Pull the seal behind the door arrester and tighten the screw to the tightening specification, refer to DOOR ARRESTER ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW .

Scheme 80: REMOVE THE DOOR SEAL

Note. Pulling the seal laterally will loosen the adhesive and then it is possible to remove the seal from the door without any left over adhesive on it.

Bend and remove the door seal laterally as illustrated -arrow-.

Proceed the same way all around and remove the door seal completely.

Remove any left over adhesive on the door frame with adhesive strip remover VAS 6349.

Mark the Position of the Door Seal

Mark the position of the seal on the window frame with adhesive tape and around the door lock

Remove the Seal

Bend the seal -1- and then remove it from the door.

Note. By bending the seal, the adhesive will be loosened and then the seal can be removed free of any adhesive.

Aligning Seal

Note. When mounting the door seal, place it on the door frame just lightly so that minor adjustments can still be made later.

Pull of the protective strip around the marking.

Mount the door seal with the markings (-star-) on the upper corner of the door and lightly press on it according to the markings.

Press the door seal secure using the roller 3356.

Align the seal with the marking and lightly press it onto the door.

  1. Door Seal Starting from the lower rear edge of the door toward the front lower door edge, mount the door seal with the rear edge on the inner radius runout, as illustrated. The front edge of the seal must be placed on the runout of the outer radius at the bottom of the door up to the imprint. -- Press the seal secure with a roller 3356.

Scheme 83: ADHESIVE AREA FOR DOOR SEAL
  1. The front edge of the seal must be placed on the runout of the outer radius in area -A- starting from approximately the window shaft strip over the window frame and up to the B-pillar, as illustrated.
  2. The rear edge of the seal must be mounted and pressed onto the runout of the inner radius in area -B-.

DOOR ARRESTER

Removing

Close the window.

Remove the door trim. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Remove the lower speaker. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Remove the door arrester bolt -arrow-.

Remove the door arrester seal -1- on the door opening.

Pull the rubber boot -1- on the door arrester to the side slightly -A arrows-.

Scheme 86: WINDOW REGULATOR MOTOR
  1. Window Regulator Motor NOTE: The window regulator motor can be removed or installed with the motor or door window in any position. Removing -- Remove the door trim. Refer to «Removal and Installation»(/audi/q5/i-2008-2012/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#interior-trim) . -- Remove the screws -6- and remove the window regulator motor from the window regulator. Installation Tightening specifications, refer to «WINDOW REGULATOR MOTOR AND REGULATOR ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW»(/audi/q5/i-2008-2012/remont/door-locks-anti-theft-systems/#front-doors-central-locking-system) . The clips -arrow- for the window regulator threaded pins must be latched into the inner door panel. -- Mount the window regulator motor on the threaded pins and tighten the screws -6-. NOTE: With the window regulator motor switches connected, switch the ignition on and run the door windows up to the stop. Continue holding the window regulator switch for approximately 2 seconds so the basic setting and one-touch up/down function are activated.

Refer to «WINDOW REGULATOR MOTOR»(/audi/q5/i-2008-2012/remont/windows/#rear-doors) . Door glass removed. Refer to «RELEASE THE THREADED PINS»(/audi/q5/i-2008-2012/remont/windows/#rear-doors) -- Only loosen the upper nut. -- Remove the lower nuts and lift the window regulator out of the key hole. -- Remove the window regulator through the opening in the door inner panel.

Release the clips -arrow- on the window regulator threaded pins -3- using an 11 mm socket by sliding the socking onto the threaded pins.

OUTER WINDOW SHAFT STRIP

Note. If removed, the window shaft strip must be replaced.

Special tools and workshop equipment required

  1. Hook 3438

Note. Cover the shaft of the hook with tape to prevent causing damage.

Removing

Open the door window completely.

Before the window shaft strip -1- can be removed, first disconnect it from the door hooks -arrows- -2-.

Insert the hook 3438 between the door window and the window shaft strip near the B-pillar.

Starting at the B-pillar, move the hook forward to the first retaining hook with the given dimensions and release the window shaft strip with the hook 3438 in the direction of the -arrow-.

Pull the window shaft strip out of the first catch using the hook 3438.

Move the hook 3438 to the next catch and release the window shaft strip.

Note. The measurements refer from the end of the window shaft strip to the B-pillar.

Release the window shaft strip retaining hooks one by one and pull it upward off the door.

Installation

WARNINGDo not pry open the hooks, if necessary they must be bent back into their original shape.
  1. Beginning at the A-pillar, press the window shaft strip completely into the retaining hooks in the door.

Install the exterior rearview mirror. Refer to EXTERIOR REARVIEW MIRROR HOUSING .

Scheme 95: WINDOW GUIDE
  1. Window Guide Door window removed. Refer to «REAR DOOR WINDOW»(/audi/q5/i-2008-2012/remont/windows/#glass-window-regulators) . Beginning at the upper window guide, as well as on the B-pillar and C-pillar, remove it from the door. Remove the window guide from the door. For easier installation, coat window guide with a soap solution. Push the window guide into the guide shafts as illustrated. Press the window guide with the latching tabs into the door.

  1. Cover Removing from the housing. Refer to «REMOVE THE HOUSING CAP»(/audi/q5/i-2008-2012/remont/windows/#rear-doors)

  3. Housing Remove the screw from the clip. Using a screwdriver, press the retaining bracket and then remove the lock cylinder and cap.

Press the door seal to the side and remove the protective film over the hole -arrow A-.

Remove the locking bolt -4- as far as the stop using a screwdriver -1-.

Press the housing retaining bracket -3- inward.

Remove the housing -2- from the mounting bracket -arrow B-.

Installation

To install, perform the steps used in removal in reverse order.

Scheme 98: REMOVE THE HOUSING CAP

Remove housing. Refer to HOUSING .

Spread the clips -arrows- and remove the cover cap -1- from the housing -2- using an awl if necessary.

Installation

Press the housing cover cap on until it engages audibly.

DOOR HANDLE

Removing

Press the door seal to the side and remove the protective film over the hole -arrow A-.

Remove the locking bolt -4- as far as the stop using a screwdriver -1-.

Pull the door handle outward and hold it in the opened position.

Press the housing retaining bracket -3- inward, the door handle is secured in the opened position.

Remove the housing -2- from the mounting bracket -arrow B-.

Pull the door handle -1- in the -direction of the arrow-. This disengages the handle from the operating lever in the mounting bracket.

Tilt the door handle -1- outward -arrow- and remove it from the mount on the mounting bracket.

In vehicles with the keyless entry system, disconnect the connector -2- on the door handle.

Installation

Replace the door handle washers -1- and -2- if damaged or brittle.

Insert the door handle -1- -arrow A-. It must engage in the mount -2- on the mounting bracket -3-.

Tilt the door handle -1- in the -direction of arrow B- and slide the coupling plate -5- into the mounting bracket in front of the operating lever -4-.

Press the housing retaining bracket onto the door handle.

Install housing. Refer to HOUSING .

HANDLE TRIM

In vehicles without keyless entry, trim installed instead of the outer door handle touch sensor.

Removing

Remove the door handle.

Pry out the door handle trim -2- using an awl -1- at the location shown in the illustration -arrow-.

Remove the door handle trim -3-.

Installation

Install the door handle trim in until it engages audibly.

Install the door handle.

Install housing. Refer to HOUSING .

REAR OUTSIDE DOOR HANDLE TOUCH SENSOR

CAUTIONTo prevent damaging the sensor, follow the instructions as described.

Remove the outer door handle -2- and sensor -1-, refer to DOOR HANDLE .

Using a small screwdriver, carefully release the latches at the arrows - A and B- and push the connector -3- and the wiring guide to the side.

Insert a screwdriver in front of the sensor as illustrated

With light force on the screwdriver, pry out the sensor form the outer door handle.

Remove the sensor from the door outer handle.

STRIKER PIN

Removing

Remove the bolts -2- and the striker pin -1-.

Installation

To install, perform the steps used in removal in reverse order.

Note. The striker pin backing must be position with the pins -arrows- exactly in the hole. The striker pins must be sheared off cleanly after sliding the striker pin. If a new part is being installed, then remove the sheared off pins from the striker pin.

Removing

Remove housing. Refer to HOUSING

Remove the door trim. Refer to Removal and Installation .

CAUTIONThere is a risk of malfunction. When removing and installing, make sure the actuating link is not kinked or damaged.

Turn the actuating link on the lever -1- 90° in the -direction of arrow A- and remove it from the bracket -2-.

Rotate the actuating link on the door lock operating lever -3- in the -direction of arrow B-.

  1. The actuating link must be aligned with the opening on the operating lever.

Disengage the actuating link from the operating lever.

Remove the bolts -arrows-.

Remove the door lock -1- and disconnect the electrical connector -2-.

Installation

To install, perform the steps used in removal in reverse order.

Engage the actuating link -3- in the door lock operating lever -2-.

Insert the actuating link in the bracket -1- and rotate the lever -4- 90° -arrow-.

  1. The lever must engage audibly with the locking tab on the bracket.

Removing

Remove the door cover. Refer to DOOR COVER .

Remove the bolts -arrows-.

Press the door lock -1- to the side and disconnect the electrical connector -2- if necessary.

Disengage the actuating link -3- at the door lock bracket -2- -arrow A-.

Turn the nipple -1- 90° in the -direction of arrow B- and remove it from the door opener release lever -4-.

Installation

Insert the nipple -2- in the door opener release lever -3- -bottom arrow-.

Rotate the nipple 90° -top arrow- and press the actuating link into the bracket on the door lock -1- until it engages audibly.

MOUNTING BRACKET

Removing

Remove the door trim. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Remove the door cover. Refer to DOOR COVER

CAUTIONThere is a risk of malfunction. When removing and installing, make sure the actuating link is not kinked or damaged.

Turn the actuating link on the lever -1- 90° in the -direction of arrow A- and remove it from the bracket -2-.

Rotate the actuating link on the door lock operating lever -3- in the -direction of arrow B-.

  1. The actuating link must be aligned with the opening on the operating lever.

Disengage the actuating link from the operating lever.

Remove door handle. Refer to DOOR HANDLE .

Disengage the electrical wire on the mounting bracket -arrow- if applicable.

Free up the electrical wire spiral clip -1- using the pry lever 80 - 200.

Note. Use a soapy solution if necessary make removal easier.

Remove the bolt -3- and the mounting bracket -2-.

Installation

Engage the actuating link -3- in the door lock operating lever -2-.

Insert the actuating link in the bracket -1- and rotate the lever -4- 90° -arrow-.

  1. The lever must engage audibly with the locking tab on the bracket.

Removing

Remove the door trim. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Remove the door cover. Refer to DOOR COVER .

CAUTIONThere is a risk of malfunction. When removing and installing, make sure not to bend or damage the actuating link.

Turn the actuating link on the lever -1- 90° in the -direction of arrow A- and remove it from the bracket -2-.

Rotate the actuating link on the door lock operating lever -3- in the -direction of arrow B-.

  1. The actuating link must be aligned with the opening on the operating lever.

Disengage the actuating link -1- on the operating lever by pressing the bracket -3- out of the mount on the mounting bracket -2- -arrow-.

Remove the operating shaft.

Installation

To install, perform the steps used in removal in reverse order.

Engage the actuating link -3- in the door lock operating lever -2-.

Insert the actuating link in the bracket -1- and rotate the lever -4- 90° -arrow-.

  1. The lever must engage audibly with the locking tab on the bracket.
