Preparatory steps

  1. Remove wiper arms. --> «92 - WINDSHIELD WIPER AND WASHER SYSTEM»(/audi/a8/d3-2005-2007/remont/cruise-control-systems/#electrical-equipment)
  2. Remove cowl panel trim.
  3. Pull left and right water deflectors out from retaining strips (from bottom upward).
  4. Remove sun visors on left, center and right. --> «70 - INTERIOR TRIM»(/audi/a8/d3-2005-2007/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#body-interior)
  1. Remove interior rear-view mirror. --> «70 - INTERIOR TRIM»(/audi/a8/d3-2005-2007/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#body-interior)
  2. Disconnect all electrical wires to sensors and rearview mirror or to window heater.
  3. Remove upper trim panels of A-pillars --> «70 - INTERIOR TRIM»(/audi/a8/d3-2005-2007/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#body-interior)

Note. In vehicles with rain sensor - 2 - , cover - 3 - for rain sensor must be removed from windshield - 1 -. To assist removal of cover, create an assist tool, e.g. from a 1 mm thick welding wire - 1 - as shown in illustration.

Note. Illustration shows rain sensor as seen from outside through ceramic screen printed area.

  1. Move assist tool on both sides at top on headliner - 3 - carefully behind cover - 1 - of rain sensor mount - 2 -.

  1. Pull cover on side slightly outward in direction of arrow and then pull off cover downward from mount.
  2. Press rain sensor with wire connection toward rear to vehicle interior from window.

  1. Pierce hole in adhesive sealing material from inside of vehicle using awl at bottom-left of windshield.
  2. Pull cutting cord through adhesive sealing material into inside of vehicle using awl.

  1. Lay cutting cord underneath and all around inside of windshield.

  1. Secure end of cutting cord at bolt for securing front wiper arms.
  2. Insert protective foil V.A.G 1474/13 between windshield and instrument panel.
  1. Secure beginning of cutting cord in winding device and cut first area of adhesive (up to about center of windshield).

  1. Move winding device as shown, and continue to cut out adhesive sealing material.

  1. Move winding device as shown and attach relay pulley.
  2. Route cutting cord as shown.
  3. Cut adhesive up to point where cord no longer runs in relay pulley.

  1. Remove relay pulley and continue to cut adhesive.

  1. Move winding device as shown and attach relay pulley in upper corner of windshield.
  2. Route cutting cord as shown.
  3. Insert protective foil V.A.G 1474/11 between windshield and molded headliner.
  4. Cut adhesive up to point where cord no longer runs in relay pulley.

  1. Remove relay pulley and continue to cut adhesive.
  2. Repeat these steps in top left and bottom left corners of windshield.
  3. Cut glass completely free in this manner.
  4. Remove windshield from windshield opening using suctioned lifter.
