Removing Engine Control Module (ECM)

Connect vehicle Diagnostic, Test and Information System VAS5051 or VAG1551 scan tool to vehicle and select control module for engine electronics "Address word" 01. See «VEHICLE DIAGNOSTIC, TESTING AND INFORMATION SYSTEM VAS5051 OR VAG1551, CONNECTING AND SELECTING FUNCTIONS»(ref-216437-S40962647232006020800000) . The ignition must be switched on.

Always display ECM identification and print out.
Compare coding with coding variation table. See «CODING VARIATIONS OF ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM)»(ref-216437-S28081866312006020800000) .
Switch ignition off.
Remove cover of electronics box for control modules in plenum chamber (right side).
Remove engine control module.
Release connectors on engine control module and disconnect connectors.
Take out old engine control module and install new one.
