General information

The approved wheel/tire combinations are listed in

Vehicle Owner's Manual

For safety reasons, damaged wheel electronics or valve stems must be replaced.

Do not clean wheel electronics using pressure cleaners or compressed air at a high pressure.

Wheel electronics must be replaced after using tire sealing fluid, due to erroneous measurements caused by deposits of tire sealing fluid at pressure sensor.

Scheme 560

Scheme 560

Removing and installing metal valve body

  1. Insert metal valve with rubber seal through rim from the inside.
  2. install chamfered washer and union nut from the outside and tighten by hand.
  3. Secure in place using retainer -1- (possibly 2 mm drill bit). Tightening torque: 4 Nm (35 in lb)
  4. Press wheel electronics -1- into drop center and bolt in at rear of valve with micro-encapsulated bolt. Tightening torque: 4 Nm (35 in lb)

Tire change

The nickel plated valve stem insert must be replaced every time the tires are changed.

The metal valve stem and the wheel electronics can be used again.

  1. Release tire air by removing nickel plated valve stem insert.
  2. Dismounting tire: See «DISMOUNTING TIRE»(/audi/a8/d2-1994-1999/remont/warning-system/#wheels-tires-tire-pressure-control-system__dismounting-tire) .

Visually check for loose or damaged parts. Replace complete valve stem if the threaded connections are loose.

Always replace damaged wheel electronics.

  1. Mounting tire: See «MOUNTING TIRE»(/audi/a8/d2-1994-1999/remont/warning-system/#wheels-tires-tire-pressure-control-system__mounting-tire) .
  2. Thread in new nickel plated valve stem insert.
  3. Inflate tire, reattach plastic cap.
  4. Balance tire.

Dismounting tire

Roll off or press off tire

Press tire off at the side opposite the valve stem first when using bead breakers.

Do not use bead breakers in hatched area -a-. see scheme 6

  1. Align shoe near the valve stem at position -b- so that the tire iron can be positioned approx. 30 degrees from the valve stem.
  2. Dismount tire in area of valve stem first.

Mounting tire

Do not use bead breakers in valve stem area

  1. Position wheel electronics approx. 180 degrees opposite the shoe.
  2. Press tire into drop center approx. 90 degrees before the shoe (see arrow).
  3. Mount tire.

Front reception antennas, removing and installing

The reception antennas are located behind the wheel housing liners.

  1. Removing and installing wheel-housing liners: See «FRONT WHEELHOUSING LINER, REMOVING AND INSTALLING»(/audi/a8/d2-1994-1999/remont/mirrors/#exterior-equipment__front-wheelhousing-liner-removing-and-installing) .
  2. Switch ignition off.
  3. Disconnect harness connector -1-.
  4. Remove bolts -2
  5. Remove antenna

System, switching on and off

The system is switched on automatically, when storing tire pressures, (3 placed before On).

In order to switch the system off, call up the setting menu and place a no before On instead of ticking.

When the ignition is switched on, the yellow tire symbol is briefly displayed to prompt the driver with the information: OFF

WARNINGThe tire pressure control system and warnings do not work with the system in the off position. The system should always be switched on to ensure the vehicle user's safety.

Function

The system monitors the tire pressures adjusts and enters for monitoring by the user.

The following steps must be carried out beforehand

Tire pressures, checking and correcting

  1. Check and correct the tire pressure of wheels on vehicle.

Tire pressures, saving

After checking tire pressures, correct filling of tires, the current pressures need to be saved to the control system. The system performs an automatic adaptation procedure.

Proceed as follows

  1. Switch on the ignition and call up the Start menu. Access the Adjustment menu via Adjusting -> Tire pressure.
  2. Place a checkmark (3) in front of saving pressures.
  3. Rotate the selection arrow Back in order to access the Entry menu.

Note. The adaptation procedure for new monitoring conditions must be re-initiated after each tire pressure change and each wheel change via selection of the item Save pressures.
