  1. Engine at operating temperature
WARNINGThe cooling system is pressurized when the engine is warm. When opening the expansion tank, wear gloves and other appropriate protection, cover the cap with a cloth, and open carefully to relieve system pressure slowly.
  1. Connect cooling system tester VW 1274 to expansion tank using adapter VW 1274/1.
  2. Operate hand pump on tester to pressurize cooling system to approx. 1.0 bar (14.5 psi).

If the pressure does not hold

  1. Locate and repair leak in cooling system. Checking pressure relief valve in cap
  2. Screw cap onto cooling system tester VW1274 with adapter VW 1274/1. (Scheme 13): Connecting VW 1274 To Expansion Tank Using VW 1274/1
  3. Operate hand pump to build pressure.
  4. Pressure relief valve must open at 1.2-1.5 bar (17-22 psi). see scheme 14: Screwing Radiator Cap Onto VW1274 With VW 1274/1
