Sun Roof/t-Top/convertible Top 11 illustrations ~1037 words

DESCRIPTION & OPERATION

The power sun roof can operate at all times when the ignition switch is in the ON position. Power sun roof will operate after the ignition is turned off until driver's door is opened. Power sun roof can also be closed by inserting key in door lock and holding it in locked position. If power system fails, sun roof can be operated manually by removing control panel and rotating crank in sun roof motor. (Scheme 1)

DRAIN TUBES

Front drain tubes are routed through "A" pillars and discharge above front door hinge. Rear drain tubes are routed through "D" pillars and discharge behind rear wheel housing. Clean rear drain tubes through sun roof opening.

Note. Speedometer cable core can be used to clean drain tubes

COMPONENT TESTS

Note. Connector terminal numbers are stamped on connector. Ensure battery is fully charged. Inspect related circuit breaker(s).

CONTROL MODULE

From rear of control module wiring harness connector, place Black voltmeter lead on terminal No. 2. Place Red lead on terminal No. 4. With driver's door open, 12 volts should be present. With driver's door closed, zero voltage should be present. If voltage is correct, ensure wiring harness and door switch are okay. Repair or replace as necessary. If wiring harness and door switch are okay, replace control module.

POWER & GROUND CHECK

  1. Disconnect control module wiring harness connector. Place Black voltmeter lead on wiring harness connector terminal No. 2. Place Red lead on terminal No. 8. If 12 volts is present, go to next step. If 12 volts is not present, inspect wiring harness and circuit breaker S43. Repair or replace as necessary.
  2. Leave control module wiring harness connector disconnected. Place Black voltmeter lead on connector terminal No. 2. Place Red lead on terminal No. 1. If 12 volts is present, go to next step. If 12 volts is not present, inspect wiring harness and connector. Repair or replace as necessary.
  3. Leave control module wiring harness connector disconnected. Place Black voltmeter lead on connector terminal No. 2. Place Red lead on terminal No. 3. Turn ignition on. If 12 volts is not present, repair open circuit or replace ignition switch. If 12 volts is present, replace control module.

CONTROL SWITCH CHECK

  1. Disconnect control switch wiring harness connector. Place Red voltmeter lead on terminal No. 4. Connect Black lead to ground. Turn ignition on. If 12 volts is present, go to next step. If 12 volts is not present, inspect wiring harness. Repair or replace as necessary.
  2. Remove control switch. Using an ohmmeter, check for continuity between control switch terminals No. 1 and 3. Continuity should be present. Operate switch between open and close position. Continuity should not be present. If continuity is not as specified, replace switch. If continuity is as specified, go to next step.
  3. Connect ohmmeter leads between control switch terminal No. 1 and ground. Continuity should not be present. Toggle switch between open and close position. Continuity should be present. If continuity is not as specified, replace switch. If continuity is as specified, go to next step.
  4. Connect ohmmeter leads between control switch terminal No. 2 and ground. Continuity should not be present. Toggle switch between raise and lower position. Continuity should be present. If continuity is not as specified, replace switch. If continuity is as specified, go to next step.
  5. Connect ohmmeter leads between control switch wiring harness connector terminals No. 2 and 4. Continuity should be present. Toggle switch between raise and lower position. Continuity should not be present. If continuity is not as specified, replace switch.

Remove sun roof relay. Remove sun roof motor. Connect sun roof motor wiring harness connector terminal "A" (Blue wire) to ground. See f (Scheme 6). Connect terminal "B" to ground. Replace motor if it does not operate. If motor operates, check wiring harness and microswitch.

SUN ROOF RELAY CHECK

  1. Remove sun roof relay. Connect ohmmeter leads to relay terminals No. 56 and 56a. Connect terminal "S" to ground. Apply battery voltage to terminal No. 30. Relay should click and ohmmeter continuity should change. If conditions are not as specified, replace relay. If conditions are as specified, go to next step.
  2. Connect ohmmeter leads to relay terminals No. 56 and 56b. Connect terminal "S" to ground. Apply battery voltage to terminal No. 30. Relay should click and ohmmeter continuity should change. If conditions are not as specified, replace relay. If conditions are as specified, check sun roof motor.

DRIVE CABLES

Remove sun roof motor. Center rear guide in slot of channel. (Scheme 7) Pull rear guide upward to remove. To install, reverse removal procedure. Put rear guide in center of slot and tap lightly with hammer to seat.
