CONTACT CORROSION

Contact corrosion can occur if incorrect fasteners (bolts, nuts, washers, etc.) are used.

For this reason, only fasteners with a special surface coating are used.

In addition, rubber or plastic parts and adhesive consist of non-conductive materials.

If there are doubts as to whether parts are suitable or not, use new parts.

Note. We only recommend original replacement parts, they have been tested and are compatible with aluminum. We recommend using Audi accessories. Damage resulting from contact corrosion is not covered by warranty.

STEERING COLUMN SWITCH MODULE AND ELECTRONIC IGNITION LOCK

1. The steering column switch module consists of coil connector with slip ring, steering angle sensor -G85-, steering column switch (turn signal indicator switch, wiper switch, cruise control switch) and steering column electronic systems control module -J527-.
2. Fault finding is done in Guided Fault Finding using the Vehicle diagnostic tester.

3. Headlamp Beam Adjusting Motor Housing Cover The headlamp housing must be cut open to replace the positioning motor. A housing cover can be ordered to seal the assembly opening. 7. The angle dimension -arrow- is stamped on the upper edge of the headlamp -1- in "%".

Note. The headlamp must be adjusted according to the angle dimension stamped on the headlamp. The percentage indicator is based on a 10 meter projection distance. At an angle dimension of 1.0%, for example, converts to 10 cm (4 in.).

Procedure

The vehicles must be standing on a flat surface.

Turn the headlamp switch to "low beam" - not "Auto".

Set the range position thumbwheel to the "0" position.

Headlamp adjustment

1. The horizontal light-dark border must touch the dividing line -1- on the adjusting unit test surface.
2. The point -2- between the left horizontal part and the right vertical part of the light-dark border must run vertically through the central mark -3-. The bright core of the light beam must be to the right of the vertical.

Note. To determine the point -2- more easily, cover and uncover the left half of the headlamp several times. Then check low beam again. After correct headlamp adjustment, the center of the high beam light beam must be on the central marking -3-.

To adjust the height of the headlamp, set the light-dark border just under the dividing line with the adjustment screw -1-.

Then adjust the light-dark border, starting from the bottom, on the dividing line.

For side adjustment, turn adjusting screw -2-.

Close all the doors and the rear lid and keep them closed for the duration of the testing/adjusting procedure.

To prepare for the headlamp adjustment, in "Guided Functions", select "basic setting" on the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.

Note. The headlamps move into the basic setting with this program.

Select the function or path

During the program, you will be asked to perform a headlamp adjustment.

Headlamp adjustment

1. The horizontal light-dark border must touch the dividing line -1- on the adjusting unit test surface.
2. The point -2- between the left horizontal part and the right vertical part of the light-dark border must run vertically through the central mark -3-. The bright core of the light beam must be to the right of the vertical.

ACCESS/START AUTHORIZATION SWITCH

Special tools and workshop equipment required

1. Special pliers VAS 6339

Note. Induction coil for immobilizer is secured to access/start authorization switch -E415- and cannot be replaced separately. If induction coil is malfunctioning, access/start authorization switch must be replaced. If access/start authorization switch is replaced, no adaptation of immobilizer is necessary. Lock in access/start authorization switch is not coded mechanically. Keys must therefore not be replaced when access/start authorization switch is replaced; present keys continue to match.

REMOVING

Remove the driver side instrument panel cover. Refer to Removal and Installation .

On USA vehicles, remove the right impact bar. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Remove the MMI screen cover. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Remove the instrument cluster gap cover. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Remove the bolt -2- for the trim -1-.

Scheme 38

Insert the VAS 6339 through the trim flaps.

Scheme 39

Position the tips of the VAS 6339 on both holes -A arrows- on the access/start authorization switch -E415- -2-.

Press the VAS 6339 together -B arrows- to spread the tips of the pliers and release the trim retaining tabs.

Hold the VAS 6339 pressed with one hand and remove the trim -1- with the other hand -arrow C-.

Note. Only use the VAS 6339 to release. Remove the trim by hand.

Remove bolt -2-.

INSTALLING

Release spring clip -arrow- and remove gas discharge lamp housing cover -1- from headlamp housing.

1. This guides the lamp unit in the headlamp into the high position.

Disconnect the electrical connector -2-.

Rotate the positioning motor -1- on the left headlamp clockwise and the one on the right headlamp counterclockwise.

Disengage positioning motor from headlamp housing.

Note. Positioning motor axle should not be disengaged from headlamp

Pull the adjusting motor -1- back gently until the motor axle can be removed from the headlamp lamp unit ball joint -3-.

Engage the adjusting motor axle pins in the ball joint.

1. The axle pins must engage in cut-outs on ball joint -arrows-.

Position the quick release on the adjusting motor on the headlamp housing.

Engage the adjusting motors -1- by rotating counterclockwise on the left headlamp and clockwise on the right headlamp.

Connect the electrical connector -2- to the adjusting motor.

Note. Ignore the -arrow- and -item 3-.

Close the housing cover and secure it the spring clip.

Install the headlamp housing. Refer to HEADLAMP HOUSING .

HEADLAMP HOUSING

The dynamic cornering lamp position motor sits in the headlamp housing and cannot be replaced separately if it is faulty.

LOW BEAM REFLECTOR MOTORS -V294- / -V295

The lower beam cover sits in the headlamp housing and cannot be replaced separately if it is faulty.

Replace the headlamp housing. Refer to HEADLAMP HOUSING .

Remove headlamp housings. Refer to HEADLAMP HOUSING .

Remove the turn signal/parking lamp housing cover -1- from the headlamp housing -arrow-.

Turn the turn signal socket -1- counterclockwise -arrow- and remove it from the housing.

Pull the socket -1- with the bulb out of the reflector in -the direction of the arrow-.

Remove Parking Lamp from socket.

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following

Insert the new bulb into the socket without touching the bulb with bare hands.

Push socket into reflector until it engages noticeably.

Close the housing cover -1-. When doing this, the strap -2- must align with the mark -3- on the headlamp housing.

Install the headlamp housing. Refer to HEADLAMP HOUSING .

CONTROL MODULES -J431-, -J745

The parking aid control module is integrated in the vehicle electrical system control module -J519- depending on the date of manufacture from MY 2012 and cannot be replaced separately if defective.

Replace the vehicle electrical system control module, refer to VEHICLE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM CONTROL MODULE -J519 .

If the control module was replaced, select the "Replace" function for the respective control module in Guided Fault Finding or Guided Functions using the Vehicle diagnostic tester.

Remove the glove compartment. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Release the retaining clip -arrow- and remove the -1- from the retaining frame.

Disconnect the electrical connector -2-.

To disconnect electrical connector, press catch -1-, turn retaining bracket in -direction of arrow- and remove connector.

Insert the tip of the turn signal in the slit in the exterior rearview mirror housing -3- -arrow A-.

Tilt the turn signal bulb housing -4- into the exterior rearview mirror housing -arrow B-. The locking tab -2- must engage in the mount -1-.

Install the exterior rearview mirror housing. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Remove the vent hose -3- on the left side of the fog lamp.

Rotate the bulb -2- counterclockwise -arrow- and remove it from the fog lamp housing.

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following

Insert the new bulb into the housing without touching the bulb with bare hands.

Rotate the bulb clockwise to secure.

Mount the vent hose on the left side of the fog lamp.

Rotate the bulb clockwise to secure.

Remove the high beam housing cover -1- from the headlamp housing -arrow-.

Turn socket -1- counterclockwise -arrow- and remove from housing.

Release the wire clamp -arrow- and remove the low beam/daytime running lamp bulb housing cover -1- from the headlamp housing.

Turn the headlamp height adjustment screw -2- clockwise as far as the stop -arrow A-.

1. This guides lamp unit in headlamp into low position.

Insert a screwdriver from behind into the headlamp housing -1- and press the headlamp height adjusting screw up out of the housing -arrow B-.

Disconnect the electrical connector -2-.

Remove the headlamp range adjustment positioning motor -1- by the left headlamp clockwise -arrow A- and by the right headlamp counterclockwise.

Disengage positioning motor from headlamp housing.

Slide the adjusting axle ball head -4- out of the ball socket -3- by tilting the positioning motor -1- upward -arrow B-.

Press reflector forward and remove adjusting motor.

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following

Insert the adjusting axle ball head into the reflector ball socket from above while pulling the reflector back.

Position the headlamp range adjustment positioning motor quick release on the headlamp housing.

Engage the headlamp range adjustment positioning motor counterclockwise on the left headlamp and clockwise on the right headlamp.

Connect the electrical connector on the headlamp range adjustment positioning motor.

Close the housing cover and secure it the spring clip.

Install the headlamp housing. Refer to HEADLAMP HOUSING .

Switch off ignition and remove ignition key.

Turn light switch into "0" position.

Remove the lock carrier cover. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Disconnect the electrical connector -4-.

Remove the screws -2- and -5-.

Loosen the lower bolt -3- on the headlamp housing using a long wrench.

Note. Ignore items -6 and 7-.

Remove headlamp -1- toward front from body.

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following

When inserting the headlamp -2- into the mount -1-, make sure the guide tracks on the headlamp engage in the guides on the mount -arrows-.

1. Headlamp must slide gently into mount and without using force.

When sliding the headlamp -4- in, make sure the headlamp ventilation -3- slides evenly into the mount -2- for the ventilation hose -1- -arrow-.

Tighten the screws -2, 3 and 5-.

Install the lock carrier cover. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Note. Headlamp mounting tabs that have broken off can be replaced by installing the repair set. Completely replacing the headlamp is not necessary. There are different repair kits for left and right headlamps.

Procedure

1. Tightening specification, refer to «HALOGEN HEADLAMPS OVERVIEW, THROUGH 10.08»(/audi/a5/i-2007-2011/remont/exterior-lights/#exterior-lights-switches-coupe__halogen-headlamps-overview-through-1008) .

Remove headlamp with broken mounting tab. Refer to HEADLAMP HOUSING .

Remove remains of broken mounting tab at headlamp housing.

Place mounting straps -2- and -4- from repair kit on headlamp housing and secure tabs with straps -1- and -3-.

Remove headlamp housings. Refer to HEADLAMP HOUSING .

Release spring clip -arrow- and remove low beam/daytime running lamp bulb housing cover -1- from headlamp housing.

Remove the bulb -2- from the spring clips.

Disconnect the electrical connector -1- on the bulb.

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following

Press the bulb into the housing past the spring clips.

Close the housing cover and secure it the spring clip.

Install the headlamp housing. Refer to HEADLAMP HOUSING .

Remove headlamp housings. Refer to HEADLAMP HOUSING .

Remove the high beam/turn signal housing cover -1- from the headlamp housing -arrow-.

Remove the bulb -1- from the spring clips.

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following

Insert the new bulb into the housing without touching the bulb with bare hands.

Position the bulb on the lower spring clip.

Press the bulb into the housing past the upper spring clips.

Close the housing cover -1-. When doing this, the strap -2- must align with the mark -3- on the headlamp housing.

Install the headlamp housing. Refer to HEADLAMP HOUSING .

Remove headlamp housings. Refer to HEADLAMP HOUSING .

Release the wire clamp -arrow- and remove the low beam/daytime running lamp bulb housing cover -1- from the headlamp housing.

Remove the lamp bulb and socket -1- from the reflector -arrow-.

Remove the parking lamp/front side marker lamp bulb -2- from the socket.

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following

Insert the new bulb into the socket without touching the bulb with bare hands.

Push socket into reflector until it engages noticeably.

Close the housing cover and secure it the spring clip.

Install the headlamp housing. Refer to HEADLAMP HOUSING .

Remove headlamp housings. Refer to HEADLAMP HOUSING .

Remove the high beam housing cover -1- from the headlamp housing -arrow-.

Turn the bulb -1- counterclockwise -arrow- and remove it from the housing.

Release the spring -3- and disconnect the connector -2- on the bulb.

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following

Insert the new bulb into the housing without touching the bulb with bare hands.

Close the housing cover -1-. When doing this, the strap -2- must align with the mark -3- on the headlamp housing.

Install the headlamp housing. Refer to HEADLAMP HOUSING .

Remove headlamp housings. Refer to HEADLAMP HOUSING .

Release the wire clamp -arrow- and remove the low beam/daytime running lamp bulb housing cover -1- from the headlamp housing.

Turn the headlamp height adjustment screw -2- clockwise as far as the stop -arrow A-.

1. This guides lamp unit in headlamp into low position.

Connect the electrical connector on the headlamp range adjustment positioning motor.

Close the housing cover and secure it the spring clip.

Install the headlamp housing. Refer to HEADLAMP HOUSING .

Switch off ignition and remove ignition key.

Turn light switch into "0" position.

Remove the lock carrier cover. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Disconnect the electrical connector -4-.

Remove the screws -2- and -5-.

Remove headlamp housings. Refer to HEADLAMP HOUSING .

Note. The headlamp housing must be cut at the designated location with a sharp box cutter to replace the headlamp range control positioning motor. A housing cover can be ordered to seal the assembly opening.

Cut the cover -1- out of the headlamp housing with a sharp box cutter.

Note. Remove any shavings and grit on the blind cover from the headlamp housing.

Remove the housing cover -2- from the headlamp housing.

Turn the height adjustment bolt all the way with the hex socket wrench -3- -arrow A

Reach through the opening in the headlamp housing and remove the adjustment motor -2- in the -direction of the arrow B- from the reflector.

Remove the adjustment motor and disconnect the connector.

When connecting the connector, install the adjustment motor.

1. Counterhold the high beam/turn signal reflector through the opening when pressing the adjusting shaft ball head into the reflector ball head mount.

Close the opening in the headlamp housing -2- with the housing cover -1- from the repair kit.

Close the housing cover.

Install the headlamp housing. Refer to HEADLAMP HOUSING .

Turn the height adjustment bolt all the way with the hex socket wrench -5- -arrow A

Open the tabs -1, 6- and remove the power output stage -2- in the direction of travel forward from out of the guide rails -arrow B-.

Remove the power output stage toward the rear out from the headlamp housing -3- -arrow C-, as shown on the illustration.

Tighten the bolts -arrows- while aligning the flush to the outer edge of the fender.

Check gap dimensions again, repeat adjustment of gap dimensions if necessary, as described above.

Install the wheel housing liner. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Adjust headlamps. Refer to HALOGEN HEADLAMP, ADJUSTING or HID HEADLAMP, ADJUSTING .

Release the tab -5- -arrow- and remove the bracket -4- from the lock carrier.

If the bracket is replaced

1. Remove the headlamp housing mount, refer to «HEADLAMP HOUSING MOUNT»(/audi/a5/i-2007-2011/remont/exterior-lights/#exterior-lights-switches-coupe) .
2. Remove the crash sensor for the front airbag. Refer to «Removal and Installation»(/audi/a5/i-2007-2011/remont/airbag/#passenger-protection-airbags-seat-belts-coupe) .

Install the bracket to the fender and to the lock carrier and bolts -1, 2, 3- by hand.

Install the headlamp washer system spray nozzle. Refer to HEADLAMP WASHER SYSTEM SPRAY NOZZLES .

Install the front bumper cover. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Align the bumper cover gaps according to the body contours.

1. Gap dimension = even gap dimension.

Tighten the bolts.

Inspect the gaps again and repeat the adjustment if necessary.

Install the headlamp housing

Remove the bolts through the openings -arrows-.

Push the ball end of the positioning stem upward -arrow- and out of the ball end mount by swiveling the control motor while at the same time pushing the reflector -3- forward, to remove the headlamp beam adjustment motor -1-.

Disconnect the electrical connector -2-.

When connecting the connector, install the adjustment motor.

Tighten the bolts.

Close the opening in the headlamp housing -1- with the grommets -2, 3- from the repair kit.

Install the HID bulb. Refer to HID HEADLAMP BULBS -L13- / -L14 .

Install the headlamp housing. Refer to HEADLAMP HOUSING .

With the ignition switched off, disconnect the battery ground (GND) wire. Refer to BATTERY, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .

Remove the lock carrier cover. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Note. Apply tape to the bumper at the bottom edge of the headlamp housing to protect the bumper while gently prying up on the headlamp housing to remove it.

Disconnect the electrical connector -2-.

Remove the bolts -1 and 4-.

Remove the bolt -3- and remove the adjusting mechanism from the headlamp housing.

Loosen the bolt -arrows- a few turns from the headlamp housing.

Remove headlamp -5- toward front from body.

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following

When inserting the headlamp -2- into the mount -1-, make sure the guide tracks on the headlamp engage in the guides on the mount -arrows-.

1. Headlamp must slide gently into mount and without using force.

When sliding the headlamp -4- in, make sure the headlamp ventilation -3- slides evenly into the mount -2- for the ventilation hose -1- -arrow-.

Tighten the bolts -1, 3, 4- and -arrows-.

Install the lock carrier cover. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Connect battery. Required actions, refer to BATTERY, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .

HEADLAMP POWER OUTPUT STAGE -J667- / -J668

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following

Remove any adhesive.

Clean the surface with cleaning solution D 009 401 04.

Pull the protective film off the self-adhesive seals -4- and press them onto the surface.

1. The small seals -1- and -3- go on the outside and large seal -2- goes in the middle.

Remove the protective film -5- from the self-adhesive seals.

Install the high-mounted brake lamp into the rear lid.

Tighten bolts, refer to HIGH-MOUNT BRAKE LAMP AND LICENSE PLATE LAMPS, 5-DOOR OVERVIEW .

Connect the electrical connector -A-.

Push the rubber lip under the rear window using the 3409.

Install the rear lid trim panel. Refer to Removal and Installation .

OUTER TAIL LAMPS

Observe notes on contact corrosion. Refer to CONTACT CORROSION .

Switch off ignition and remove ignition key.

Turn light switch into 0 position.

Open the luggage compartment side trim cover.

Remove the threaded pins -2-.

Pivot the tail lamp -1- outward -arrow- and disengage retaining pins from the body.

Position the tail lamp on the body and press the retaining pins into the holes.

Tighten the threaded pins.

Slide the large clamping bracket -1- onto the threaded pins on the inner tail lamp and tighten the nuts -2- and -4-.

Note. When tightening the nuts, the clamping bracket wedges itself onto the rear lid -arrows-.

Slide the large clamping bracket -1- onto the threaded pins on the inner tail lamp and tighten the nuts -2- and -4-.

Note. When tightening the nuts, the clamping bracket wedges itself onto the rear lid -arrows-.

REAR FOG LAMP BULB

Observe notes on contact corrosion. Refer to CONTACT CORROSION .

Switch off ignition and remove ignition key.

Turn light switch into 0 position.

Remove the cover -1- in -direction of arrow-.

Unlock the bulb socket -1- : on the left tail lamp, turn counter-clockwise -arrow- ; on the right tail lamp, turn clockwise.

1. Trim removal wedge 3409

Observe notes on contact corrosion. Refer to CONTACT CORROSION .

Switch off ignition and remove ignition key.

Turn light switch into 0 position.

Pry the cover -1- out using a 3409 -arrow-.

Turn the bulb socket -1- counter-clockwise -arrow- and remove from the tail lamp housing.

Remove the fog lamp bulb from the bulb socket.

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following

Insert the new bulb in the socket without touching the bulb with bare hands.

BACKUP LAMP BULB -M16- / -M17

Observe notes on contact corrosion. Refer to CONTACT CORROSION .

Switch off ignition and remove ignition key.

Turn light switch into 0 position.

Remove the cover -1- in -direction of arrow-.

Remove the nut -2- and then remove the large clamping bracket -1-.

Unlock the bulb socket -3- with needle nose pliers on the left tail lamp, turn counter-clockwise -arrow- ; on the right tail lamp, turn clockwise.

Pull the bulb socket out of the tail lamp housing.

Remove the back-up lamp bulb from the socket.

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following

Slide the large clamping bracket -1- onto the threaded pins on the inner tail lamp and tighten the nut -2-.

Note. When tightening the nut, the clamping bracket wedges itself onto the rear lid.

Switch off ignition and remove ignition key.

Turn light switch into 0 position.

Pry the cover -1- out using a 3409 -arrow-.

Remove the nut -2- and the clamping bracket -1-.

Unlock the bulb socket -3- on the left tail lamp assembly, turn counter-clockwise -arrow- ; on the right tail lamp assembly, turn clockwise.

Pull the bulb socket out of the tail lamp housing.

Remove the back-up lamp bulb from the socket.

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following

Slide the large clamping bracket -1- onto the threaded pins on the inner tail lamp and tighten the nut -2-.

Note. When tightening the nut, the clamping bracket wedges itself onto the rear lid.

Switch off ignition and remove ignition key.

Turn light switch into "0" position.

Open the luggage compartment side trim cover.

Remove the threaded pins -2-.

Pivot the tail lamp -1- outward -arrow- and disengage retaining pins from the body.

Disconnect the connector.

1. Tightening specification, refer to «LED OUTER TAIL LAMP, OVERVIEW, FROM MY 2012»(/audi/a5/i-2007-2011/remont/exterior-lights/#exterior-lights-switches-coupe) .

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following

Note. The self-adhesive seal on the tail lamp housing must seal correctly.

Position the tail lamp on the body and press the retaining pins into the holes.

Tighten the threaded pins.

Remove the outer tail lamp. Refer to OUTER TAIL LAMPS .

Turn the bulb socket -1- counter-clockwise -arrow- and remove it from the tail lamp housing.

Remove the backup lamp bulb from the bulb socket.

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following

Insert new bulb in the bulb socket. Do not touch the glass bulbs with bare hands.

Install the outer tail lamp. Refer to OUTER TAIL LAMPS .

Switch off ignition and remove ignition key.

Turn light switch into "0" position.

Remove the cover -1- in -direction of arrow-.

Disconnect the electrical connector -5-.

Remove the nut -7- and remove the large clamping bracket -6-.

Remove the nuts -2, 3- and then remove the clamping bracket -1, 4-.

Remove the inner tail lamp toward the outside.

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following

Note. Make sure the seal between the body and tail lamp housing seals correctly.

Slide the clamping brackets -1, 4, 5- onto the inner tail lamp threaded pins and turn the nuts -2, 3, 6- 3 turns.

Position the inner tail lamp on the outer edge of the rear lid so that the clamping bracket audibly engages.

Tighten the nuts (Scheme 26)

Note. When tightening the nuts, the clamping bracket wedges itself onto the rear lid -arrows-.

Scheme 130

Turn light switch into "0" position.

Remove the license plate lamp -2- from the rear lid by positioning a screwdriver -1- at the slit and sliding it in the -direction of the arrow-.

Remove the bulb -3- from the clamping socket.

Install in reverse order. Note the following

Note. If LED's are malfunctioning, license plate lamp must be completely replaced.

Turn light switch into "0" position.

Remove the license plate lamp -2- from the rear lid by positioning a screwdriver -1- at the slit and sliding it in the -direction of the arrow-.

Remove the bulb -3- from the clamping socket.

Install in reverse order. Note the following

PARKING AID CONTROL MODULE -J446-, WITHOUT TRAILER HITCH

The parking aid control module is integrated in the vehicle electrical system control module -J519- depending on the date of manufacture from MY 2012 and cannot be replaced separately if defective.

Replace the vehicle electrical system control module, refer to VEHICLE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM CONTROL MODULE -J519 .

If the control module was replaced, select the "Replace" function for the respective control module in "Guided Fault Finding" or "Guided Functions" using the Vehicle diagnostic tester.

Open the right luggage compartment side trim cover.

Scheme 131

Open the clip -2- and remove the parking aid control module -1- from the frame.

Disconnect electrical connectors -3 through 5-.

Install in reverse order.

PARKING AID CONTROL MODULE -J446-, WITH TRAILER HITCH

The parking aid control module is integrated in the vehicle electrical system control module -J519- depending on the date of manufacture from MY 2012 and cannot be replaced separately if defective.

Replace the vehicle electrical system control module, refer to VEHICLE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM CONTROL MODULE -J519 .

If the control module was replaced, select the "Replace" function for the respective control module in "Guided Fault Finding" or "Guided Functions" using the Vehicle diagnostic tester.

Open the right luggage compartment side trim cover.

Remove the nuts -1- and -3-.

Disengage the electrical wire from the guides -arrows- on the retaining frame -2- and disconnect the cable tie -4-.

Remove the retaining frame upward.

Disconnect electrical connectors -2 through 4-.

Release the retaining clip -arrow- and remove the parking aid control module -item 5- from the retaining frame -1-.

Press both retainer tabs to the side -arrows- and press the sensor -2- through from the outside towards the inside.

Disconnect the electrical connector -1- on the sensor.

Inner sensor

Remove the lock carrier cover. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Reach through the openings in the radiator grille behind the mounts and press both retaining tabs to the side -arrows- while pressing the sensor -1- through from the outside to the inside.

Disconnect the electrical connector -2- on the sensor.

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following

Outer sensors

Remove the headlamp housing: Halogen headlamp, refer to HEADLAMP HOUSING , HID headlamp, refer to HEADLAMP HOUSING .

Inner sensor

Install the lock carrier cover. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Remove front bumper cover. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Press both retainer tabs to the side -arrows- and press the sensor -2- through from the outside towards the inside.

Disconnect the electrical connector -1- on the sensor.

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following

Remove the bolts -1- and -3- on the lower section of the bumper cover -2-.

Unclip the lower section of the bumper cover -2- from the bumper cover -1- beginning above the tailpipe in the sequence -arrow A to arrow C-.

Reach from below behind the bumper cover and press both retaining tabs to the side -arrows- while pressing the sensor -2- through from the outside to the inside.

Disconnect the electrical connector -1- on the sensor.

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following

Install the lower section of the bumper cover. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Outer sensors

Reach from below behind the bumper cover and press both retaining tabs to the side -arrows- while pressing the sensor -2- through from the outside to the inside.

Disconnect the electrical connector -1- on the sensor.

Inner sensor

Remove the bumper cover. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Press both retainer tabs to the side -arrows- and press the sensor -2- through from the outside towards the inside.

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following

Install the bumper cover. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Adjust steering wheel downward and to rear as far as possible, use entire adjustment range of steering column adjustment for this.

Remove the driver airbag. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Remove steering wheel. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Remove steering column trim. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Remove bolt -1-.

Disconnect the electrical connector -2-.

Disconnect the electrical connector -3-.

Press catch -1- in -direction of arrow- until harness connector -2- disengages.

STEERING COLUMN ELECTRONIC SYSTEMS CONTROL MODULE -J527

The airbag spiral spring/return spring with slip ring -F138- and the steering angle sensor -G85- are integrated in the steering column electronic systems control module.

If the control module was replaced, select the Replace function for the respective control module in Guided Fault Finding or Guided Functions using the Vehicle diagnostic tester.

Note. Steering must be in center position (wheels in straight ahead position) when removing and installing coil connector with slip ring.

Adjust steering wheel downward and to rear as far as possible, use entire adjustment range of steering column adjustment for this.

Remove the driver airbag. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Remove steering wheel. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Remove steering column trim. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Remove bolt -1-.

Scheme 143

Release the retaining hooks -arrows- carefully and remove the airbag spiral spring/return spring with slip ring -item 2- from the steering column switch module -3-.

Release the electrical connectors on the airbag spiral spring/return spring with slip ring -item 3- by positioning the screwdriver at the retaining hooks -2- and -4- as illustrated and carefully releasing the connectors -1- and -5- in the -direction of arrow A-.

Scheme 144

Remove the airbag spiral spring/return spring with slip ring on the steering column switch module.

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following

Make sure all retaining hooks and connectors are engaged securely.

Install steering column trim. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Install steering wheel. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Install the driver airbag. Refer to Removal and Installation .

The steering angle sensor must be adapted in "Guided Fault Finding" or "Guided Functions" after replacing the airbag spiral spring/return spring with slip ring using the Vehicle diagnostic tester.

Observe notes on contact corrosion. Refer to CONTACT CORROSION .

REAR PARKING/FOG LAMPS AND BACK-UP LAMPS 2

Remove the bulb socket -4- from the housing by press the locking bracket upward -arrows-.

Remove the tail lamp/fog lamp bulb from the socket.

Remove the back-up lamp bulb from the socket.

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following

Slide the large clamping bracket -3- onto the inner tail lamp threaded pins. The guide pins -2- and -6- must engage in the mounts.

Tighten the nuts -1-.

Note. When tightening the nuts, the clamping bracket wedges itself onto the rear lid -arrows-. Ignore items -4 and 5-.

Remove the steering column switch module. Refer to STEERING COLUMN SWITCH MODULE .

Remove the steering column electronic systems control module -J527-. Refer to STEERING COLUMN ELECTRONIC SYSTEMS CONTROL MODULE -J527 .

Remove the turn signal switch -E2-, cruise control switch -E45- and windshield wiper/washer switch -E22-.

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following

Install the steering column electronic systems control module. Refer to STEERING COLUMN ELECTRONIC SYSTEMS CONTROL MODULE -J527 .

Install the steering column switch module. Refer to STEERING COLUMN SWITCH MODULE .
