Switch the ignition off and remove the ignition key.

Remove the trim panel. Refer to TRIM MOLDING .

Remove the armrest trim. Refer to FRONT ARMREST TRIM .

Remove the bolts -1 through 5-.

Beginning at the bottom rear curve, unclip the door trim from the door using the pliers 3392 by sliding them between the door trim and the door in the securing clip area.

Make sure the rubber buffer -3- and all seals -2- are present inside the door trim panel.

Make sure all the clips -1- are in the door trim panel.

WARNINGFor proper crash sensor (pressure sensor) function, ensure door does not leak. The door trim clips -arrows- seal the system closed. Replace the clips if necessary.

Engage the ends of the cable -4- in the inside door release mechanism lever.

  1. The open side of the eye on the end of the cable must face up.

Pull the door mechanism release cable -2- in the direction of the -arrow- and guide it into the cable bracket -1-.

  1. Bracket -3- must engage audibly in the control cable bracket.

Connect the connectors on the door control module.

Position the door trim on the window recess and press it down firmly.

Carefully position the door trim clips on the door and press the door trim onto the door until it engages audibly on the mounting points.

Further installation is performed in the reverse order of removal.

FRONT PULL HANDLE WITH SWITCH MOUNT

Pry off the decorative trim -1- from the door panel using a screwdriver and starting at the rear in the direction of -arrow A-.

Remove the decorative trim from the door release mechanism toward the rear in the direction of -arrow B- by gently prying off the trim using a screwdriver and starting at the front so that it lifts the hooks on the inside out of the cut-out.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following

First engage the decorative trim on the interior door mechanism and press it into the door panel until it clicks into place.

WINDOW FRAME TRIM

Press the VAS 6339 together in the direction of the -B arrows- to spread the tips of the pliers and release the trim retaining tabs.

Note. Only use the VAS 6339. Remove the trim by hand.

When sliding the instrument panel vent into the installation opening, make sure the air duct engages correctly.

Press the instrument panel vent into the installation opening as far as the stop.

CENTER SPEAKER TRIM

Removing

Note. Be extremely careful when removing and installing because it is easy to damage the speaker trim.

Using a small screwdriver, carefully release the speaker trim -1- at the rear retaining pins -arrow- but only lift it up approximately 10 mm (0.39 in).

CAUTIONDo not lift the speaker trim any higher or the front retaining pins will break off.

Insert a long screwdriver under the speaker trim at the very front -arrow A- until it comes into contact directly on the right front retaining pins.

Vehicles equipped with speakers: remove the midrange speaker in the center of the instrument panel Removal and Installation .

Remove the sunlight photo sensor -G107- Removal and Installation .

Vehicles with speakers: Remove the center midrange speaker inside the instrument panel. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Remove the upper A-pillar trims. Refer to A-PILLAR UPPER TRIM .

Remove glove compartment bracket. Refer to GLOVE COMPARTMENT BRACKET .

Remove the brace from the instrument panel.

Remove the top left and right instrument panel bolts -1- in the A-pillar area.

WARNINGConnect the battery with the ignition switched on. Pyrotechnic components could deploy after connecting the battery if they were not repaired correctly. Individuals must not be inside the vehicle when connecting the battery.

Connect the battery ground cable with the ignition turned on. Refer to [For engine(s) CAEB, CALA, CCBA] Removal and Installation .

Note. If the airbag indicator lamp -K75- indicates a fault after installation, the DTC memory must be checked, deleted and checked again using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.

Remove the bolts -1- on the left and right of the central tube support and remove the bracket -2-.

Remove the left and right bolts -3- for the central tube support.

Remove the A/C unit bolt -1- on the left and right of the central tube support.

Carefully tilt the top side of the instrument panel central tube back while pulling it up.

Installing

Engage the instrument panel central tube on the A/C unit -3- and on the upper -2- and lower -4- stop brackets.

Align the instrument panel central tube -4- with the A-pillar.

Tighten the two nuts -2- and -3- on the stud bolt -1- and insert the stud bolt in the mount -5- on the driver side A-pillar and tighten.

  1. The stud bolt must be installed completely and the collar of it must make contact with the mount on the A-pillar.

Tighten the left and right instrument panel central tube bolts and nuts.

Installation is performed in reverse order of removal, noting the following

WARNINGConnect the battery with the ignition switched on. Pyrotechnic components could deploy after connecting the battery if they were not repaired correctly. Individuals must not be inside the vehicle when connecting the battery.

Connect the battery ground cable with the ignition turned on. Refer to [For engine(s) CAEB, CALA, CCBA] Removal and Installation .

Note. If the airbag indicator lamp -K75- indicates a fault after installation, the DTC memory must be checked, deleted and checked again using the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following

Slide the clip completely into the operating lever.

Remove the center console bracket and lower the shift mechanism. Refer to CENTER CONSOLE BRACKET .

Remove the rear center console vent on the center tunnel. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Remove the front sill panel trim. Refer to FRONT SILL PANEL TRIM .

Remove the rear sill panel trim. Refer to REAR SILL PANEL TRIM .

Remove the B-pillar lower trim piece. Refer to B-PILLAR LOWER TRIM .

Disengage the floor covering at brackets -1- and -2-.

Switch the ignition off and remove the ignition key.

Remove the trim panel. Refer to TRIM MOLDING .

Remove the armrest trim. Refer to REAR ARMREST TRIM .

Remove the bolts -1 through 5-.

Beginning at the bottom rear curve, unclip the door trim from the door using the pliers 3392 by sliding them between the door trim and the door in the securing clip area.

  1. Position of the retaining clips -arrows-.

Disengage the top of the door trim from the door in the window recess by pulling the door trim up.

Carefully release bracket -3- on control cable bracket -1-.

Remove inside door release cable -2- from the control cable bracket in the direction of the -arrow-.

Disengage the ends of the cable -4- from the inside door release mechanism.

Versions with a treble speaker: disconnect the treble speaker connector.

Disconnect the connector -1- on the door control module by removing the fuse -2- -arrow- and pressing the release -3-.

Remove the door trim.

Installing

Engage the ends of the cable -4- in the inside door release mechanism lever.

  1. The open side of the eye on the end of the cable must face up.

Pull the door mechanism release cable -2- in the direction of the -arrow- and guide it into the cable bracket -1-.

  1. Bracket -3- must engage audibly in the control cable bracket.

Connect the connectors on the door control module.

Position the door trim on the window recess and press it down firmly.

Carefully position the door trim clips on the door and press the door trim onto the door until it engages audibly on the mounting points.

Further installation is performed in the reverse order of removal.

REAR PULL HANDLE

Note. Removing and installing is identical for the left and right sides.

Lower the door window.

Remove the rear door trim panel. Refer to REAR DOOR PANEL .

Vehicles equipped with sun shade: remove the sun shade mount. Refer to SUN SHADE MOUNT .

Pry the window frame trim -1- out using the 3409 starting at the bottom of the B-pillar and then all around the window frame seal -arrow A-.

Remove the window frame trim downward from the window frame -arrow B- at the same time.

Install the trim panel -2- for the window frame on top starting at the B-pillar -arrow- into the window frame seal -1-.

HEADLINER

Removing

WARNINGFollow all safety precautions when working on pyrotechnic components. Refer to GENERAL INFORMATION .

Adjust the front seat backrests to a 45° angle.

Remove the upper A-pillar trims. Refer to A-PILLAR UPPER TRIM .

Remove the B-pillar upper trim. Refer to B-PILLAR UPPER TRIM .

Remove D-pillar trim. Refer to D-PILLAR TRIM .

Remove sun visors. Refer to SUN VISOR .

Remove the sun visor center bracket. Refer to SUN VISOR CENTER SUPPORT .

Remove the windshield. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Remove the roof grab handle. Refer to ROOF GRAB HANDLE .

Remove the front interior lamp/reading lamp. Refer to [For engine(s) CAEB, CALA, CCBA] Removal and Installation .

Open the sunroof -1- all the way.

Open the sun shade -2- about 2 / 3 .

Clean the T10039 to avoid soiling the headliner.

Let the T10039 slide along between the sunroof opening cover frame -2- and the headliner -1- until it touches one of the clips -3-.

Release the clips one after another using the T10039 as shown in the illustration -arrow-.

CAUTIONThe headliner bends easily. Replace the headliner if it is bent.

Unclip the headliner -1- at the rear from the body -arrows-.

Note. 2 technicians are needed to disconnect the last connections and remove headliner.

Remove headliner through windshield opening.

Installing

Note. Versions equipped with a sunroof: If the headliner clamps remain in the body mounting points, remove them and insert them in the headliner. Check clamps for damage or deformation, replace if necessary.

Installation is performed in reverse order of removal, noting the following

Align the headliner before securing and press it into the body mounting points until the clips engage.

CAUTIONUnclip the expanding caps -1- and -3- but only up to their lock position (do not pull them out all the way otherwise the silicone brake and spring and fall out and then the handle has to be replaced).

Unclip the expanding caps -1- and -3- to the locking position using offset screwdriver for slotted screws VAS 6543 -2-.

Remove the roof grab handle -4- from the body opening.

Installing

Insert the grab handle in the body cut-out.

Press the roof grab handle expanding caps on until they engage completely.

Apply a bead of adhesive -arrow- onto the roof reinforcement as illustrated.

  1. Distance between the adhesive beads -a- = approximately 90 mm (3.54 in).
  2. Distance of the outer bead of adhesive to the edge of the roof reinforcement, dimension -b- = approximately 20 mm (0.78 in).

Mount the roof reinforcement -1- centered to outer sides and at distance -a- to the bow -2- of the rear edge of the roof.

Disengage the sun visor -1- in the center of the vehicle from at the sun visor center bracket -2-.

Unclip the expanding cap -3- using a screwdriver.

Tilt the sun visor bracket down -arrow- and remove it.

Vehicles with illumination: Disconnect the connector and remove the sun visor.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following

Engage the sun visor bracket tab in the opening in the headliner.

Press the sun visor expanding cap on until it engages completely.

SUN VISOR CENTER SUPPORT

Disengage the sun visor in the center of the vehicle at the center bracket and fold it to the side.

Unclip the sun visor center bracket cover -1- by sliding the 80 - 200 only approximately 1 mm under the cap -2 arrows-.

Note. If the 80 - 200 is shoved further underneath, it will then be under the center bearing for the sun visor. At that point, it is not possible to pry off the cover.

Remove sun visor center bracket -3- -arrow 4-.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following
