For this reason, only fasteners with a special surface coating are used.

6. The inclination dimension is set on the headlamp adjusting unit. Refer to the Headlamp adjusting unit instructions.
7. The angle dimension -arrow- is stamped on the upper edge of the headlamp -1- in "%".

Note. The headlamp must be adjusted according to the angle dimension stamped on the headlamp. The percentage indicator is based on a 10 meter (32.8 ft.) projection distance. At an angle dimension of 1, 0%, for example, converts to 10 cm (4 in.).

Procedure

The vehicles must be standing on a flat surface.

Turn the headlamp switch to "low beam" - not "Auto".

Set the range position thumbwheel to the "0" position.

Headlamp adjustment

1. The horizontal light-dark border must touch the dividing line -1- on the adjusting unit test surface.
2. The point -2- between the left horizontal part and the right vertical part of the light-dark border must run vertically through the central mark -3-. The bright core of the light beam must be to the right of the vertical.

Note. To determine the point -2- more easily, cover and uncover the left half of the headlamp several times. Then check low beam again. After correct headlamp adjustment, the center of the high beam light beam must be on the central marking -3-.

To adjust the height of the headlamp, set the light-dark border just under the dividing line with the adjustment screw -1-.

Then adjust the light-dark border, starting from the bottom, on the dividing line.

For side adjustment, turn adjusting screw -2-.

Note. The allocation on the right headlamp is reversed.

Close all the doors and the rear lid and keep them closed for the duration of the testing/adjusting procedure.

To prepare for the headlamp adjustment, in "Guided Functions", select "basic setting" on the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.

Note. The headlamps move into the basic setting with this program.

Select the function or path

During the program, you will be asked to perform a headlamp adjustment.

Headlamp adjustment

1. The horizontal light-dark border must touch the dividing line -1- on the adjusting unit test surface.
2. The point -2- between the left horizontal part and the right vertical part of the light-dark border must run vertically through the central mark -3-. The bright core of the light beam must be to the right of the vertical.

Note. To determine the point -2- more easily, cover and uncover the left half of the headlamp several times. Then check low beam again. After correct headlamp adjustment, the center of the high beam light beam must be on the central marking -3-.

To adjust the height of the headlamp, set the light-dark border just under the dividing line with the adjustment screw -1-.

Remove the mirror glass. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Note. To protect the paint in the area around the mirror housing, tape it off with a soft cloth.

Remove the screws -4 and 5-.

Release the retaining tabs -3- in the -direction of arrow A-.

Release the retaining clip -1- and remove the exterior rearview mirror housing -2- from the cover -B arrows-.

Press the mirror adjusting unit down and pull the exterior rearview mirror housing -1- upward slightly.

Insert the tip of the turn signal in the slit in the exterior rearview mirror housing -3- -arrow A-.

Tilt the turn signal bulb housing -4- into the exterior rearview mirror housing -arrow B-. The locking tab -2- must engage in the mount -1-.

Install the exterior rearview mirror housing. Refer to Removal and Installation .

EXTERIOR MIRROR TURN SIGNAL LAMPS, FROM 06.09

Disconnect the electrical connector -1- from the bulb.

Remove the vent hose -3- on the left side of the fog lamp.

Rotate the bulb -2- counterclockwise -arrow- and remove it from the fog lamp.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following

Insert the new bulb into the fog lamp without touching the bulb with bare hands.

Rotate the bulb clockwise to secure.

Mount the vent hose on the left side of the fog lamp.

Install the front wheel housing liner. Refer to Removal and Installation .

FOG LAMP

The front side marker lamp bulb is a Light Emitting Diode (LED) and is integrated in the headlamp housing. The LED cannot be replaced. The entire headlamp must be replaced.

Replace the headlamp. Refer to HEADLAMP .

FRONT TURN SIGNAL LAMP BULBS -M5- / -M7

Position the outer edge of the headlamp -1- inside behind the fender.

Tilt the headlamp inward -arrow A-. The guide rails -2- on the headlamp must engage in the guides on the bracket -3- -arrows-.

Slide the headlamp back into the headlamp bracket as far as the stop -arrow B-.

1. The headlamp must slide into the bracket gently without using force.

When sliding the headlamp -4- in, make sure the headlamp ventilation -3- slides evenly into the mount -2- for the ventilation hose -1- -arrow-.

RIGHT HEADLAMP BEAM ADJUSTMENT MOTOR -V49

If the right headlamp beam adjustment motor on the right headlamp is faulty, replace the entire headlamp.

Replace the headlamp. Refer to HEADLAMP .

Installing

When sliding the headlamp -4- in, make sure the headlamp ventilation -3- slides evenly into the mount -2- for the ventilation hose -1- -arrow-.

Tighten the bolts -1, 3, 4- and -arrows-.

Install the lock carrier cover. Refer to Removal and Installation .

HIGH BEAM HEADLAMP BULBS -M30- / -M32

Removing

Right side: remove the air filter housing. Refer to [For engine(s) CALA] Removal and Installation or refer to [For engine(s) CAEB] Removal and Installation or refer to [For engine(s) CCBA] Removal and Installation .

Turn the housing cover -1- counter-clockwise -arrow- and remove it from the headlamp housing.

Remove the bulb -1- from the spring clips -arrows-.

Disconnect the connector -2- from the bulb.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following

Push the new bulb past the resistance of the spring clips into the housing and connect the connector. This way the glass bulb is not touched with bare hands.

Close the housing cover clockwise.

Remove the headlamp. Refer to HEADLAMP .

Note. The headlamp housing must be cut at the designated location with a sharp box cutter to replace the headlamp range control positioning motor. A housing cover can be ordered to seal the assembly opening.

Cut the cover -1- out of the headlamp housing with a sharp box cutter.

Note. Remove any shavings and grit on the blind cover from the headlamp housing.

Remove the housing cover -2- from the headlamp housing.

Turn the height adjustment bolt all the way with the hex socket wrench -arrow A

Installing

When connecting the connector, install the adjustment motor.

1. Counterhold the high beam/turn signal reflector through the opening when pressing the adjusting shaft ball head into the reflector ball head mount.

Close the opening in the headlamp housing -21- with the housing cover -1- from the repair kit.

Tighten the bolts -arrows-.

Close the housing cover.

Check gap dimensions again, repeat adjustment of gap dimensions if necessary, as described above.

Install the wheel housing liner. Refer to Removal and Installation .

If the bracket is replaced

2. Remove the crash sensor for the front airbag. Refer to «Removal and Installation»(/audi/a4/b8-2007-2012/remont/airbag/#passenger-protection-airbags-seat-belts-sedan) .

Installing

1. For the correct tightening specification, refer to «HEADLAMP HOUSING MOUNT OVERVIEW, THROUGH MY 2012»(/audi/a4/b8-2007-2012/remont/exterior-lights/#exterior-lights-switches-sedan) and «HEADLAMP HOUSING MOUNT OVERVIEW, FROM MY 2013»(/audi/a4/b8-2007-2012/remont/exterior-lights/#exterior-lights-switches-sedan) .

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following

Install the headlamp housing mount and tighten the screws -arrows- hand-tight.

Install the bracket on the fender and on the lock carrier and tighten the screws -arrows- hand-tight.

Install the headlamp washer system spray nozzle. Refer to SPRAY NOZZLES .

Install the bumper cover. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Align the bumper cover gaps according to the body contours.

1. Gap dimension = even gap dimension.

Tighten the bolts.

Inspect the gaps again and repeat the adjustment if necessary.

Install the headlamp housing

HEADLAMP RANGE CONTROL AND CORNERING LAMP AND HEADLAMP RANGE CONTROL MODULES -J431- / -J745

The parking aid control module is integrated in the vehicle electrical system control module -J519- depending on the date of manufacture from MY 2013 and cannot be replaced separately if defective.

Replace the vehicle electrical system control module, refer to VEHICLE ELECTRICAL SYSTEM CONTROL MODULE -J519 .

If the control module was replaced, select the "Replace" function for the respective control module in "Guided Fault Finding" or "Guided Functions" of the Vehicle Diagnostic Tester.

Removing

Release the retaining clip -arrow- and remove the module -1- from the retaining frame.

Remove the parking lamp and daytime running lamp module. Refer to LED PARKING LAMP/DAYTIME RUNNING LAMP MODULES -L176- / -L177 .

Insert needle nose pliers through the opening for the headlamp control module. Rotate the socket -1- counterclockwise -arrow- and remove it from the mount.

Remove the socket through the opening for the parking lamp/DRL module.

Disconnect the electrical connector and remove the bulb.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following

Insert the new bulb in the socket, taking care not to touch the glass bulb with bare hands.

Install the parking lamp and daytime running lamp module. Refer to HIGH-INTENSITY GAS DISCHARGE LAMP CONTROL MODULES -J343- /J344 .

Install the headlamp control module. Refer to HIGH-INTENSITY GAS DISCHARGE LAMP CONTROL MODULES -J343- /J344 .

Observe the notes on contact corrosion. Refer to CONTACT CORROSION .

Note. Headlamps must be adjusted after performing measures that could influence headlamp adjustment. Refer to HEADLAMPS AND FOG LAMPS, CHECKING AND ADJUSTING .

Removing

With the ignition turned off, disconnect the battery Ground (ND) cable. Refer to BATTERY, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING .

Remove the lock carrier cover. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Disconnect the electrical connector -2-.

Remove the screws -3, 4 and 5- for the headlamp -1-.

Pull the headlamp -1- forward -arrow A- until the headlamp guides can be guided out of the mounts on the mounting slide.

Then tilt the headlamp toward the fender side -arrow B- and remove it from the mounting slide.

Installing

1. Tightening specification, refer to «HALOGEN HEADLAMP OVERVIEW, THROUGH MY 2012»(/audi/a4/b8-2007-2012/remont/exterior-lights/#exterior-lights-switches-sedan__halogen-headlamp-overview-through-my-2012) .

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following

Position the outer edge of the headlamp -1- inside behind the fender.

Tilt the headlamp inward -arrow A-. The guide rails -2- on the headlamp must engage in the guides on the mount -3- -arrows-.

Slide the headlamp back into the headlamp mount as far as the stop -arrow B-.

1. The headlamp must slide into the mount gently without using force.

When sliding the headlamp -4- in, make sure the headlamp ventilation -3- slides evenly into the mount -2- for the ventilation hose -1- -arrow-.

Tighten the screws -3, 4 and 5-.

Install the lock carrier cover. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Connect the battery. Required actions, refer to BATTERY, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING => Connecting .

HEADLAMP BEAM ADJUSTMENT MOTORS -V48- / -V49

Start by inserting the ball end of the positioning stem from underneath in the reflector socket. To do so, pull the reflector to the rear.

Remove the bolt -3- and remove the adjusting mechanism from the headlamp housing.

Loosen the bolt -arrows- a few turns from the headlamp housing.

Remove headlamp -5- toward front from body.

Installing

1. Tightening specification, refer to «HID HEADLAMPS OVERVIEW, FROM MY 2013»(/audi/a4/b8-2007-2012/remont/exterior-lights/#exterior-lights-switches-sedan__hid-headlamps-overview-from-my-2013) .

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following

When inserting the headlamp -2- into the mount -1-, make sure the guide tracks on the headlamp engage in the guides on the mount -arrows-.

1. Headlamp must slide gently into mount and without using force.

When sliding the headlamp -4- in, make sure the headlamp ventilation -3- slides evenly into the mount -2- for the ventilation hose -1- -arrow-.

Tighten the bolts -1, 3, 4- and -arrows-.

Install the lock carrier cover. Refer to Removal and Installation .

Connect battery. Required actions, refer to BATTERY, DISCONNECTING AND CONNECTING => Connecting .

HEADLAMP BEAM ADJUSTMENT MOTOR -V48- / -V49

Removing

Counterhold from the inside and push the pins through to remove the pin -1, 2- with pliers from out of the headlamp housing.

Push the ball end of the positioning stem upward -arrow- and out of the ball end mount by swiveling the control motor while at the same time pushing the reflector -3- forward, to remove the headlamp range control positioning motor -1-.

Adjust the steering wheel downward and to the rear as far as possible, use the entire adjustment range of the steering column adjustment for this.

REAR SIDE MARKER LAMP

The rear side marker lamps are Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) and are integrated in the outer tail lamps. LEDs cannot be replaced. The entire outer tail lamp must be replaced.

Outer tail lamp removing and installing. Refer to OUTER TAIL LAMP .

Special tools and workshop equipment required

1. Trim Removal Wedge 3409

Removing

Scheme 133

Turn off the ignition and remove the ignition key.

Turn the light switch to the "0" position.

Pry the cover -1- out using the 3409 -arrow-.

Disconnect the electrical connector -2-.

Scheme 134

Remove the nut -3- and remove the bracket -4-.

Tilt the inner tail lamp toward the outside slightly -arrow A- and remove it in the -direction of arrow B- at the rear lid.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following

1. Tightening specification, refer to «INNER TAIL LAMP»(/audi/a4/b8-2007-2012/remont/exterior-lights/#exterior-lights-switches-sedan__inner-tail-lamp) .

Note. Make sure the seal between the body and tail lamp seals correctly.

Position the inner tail lamp on the outer edge of the rear lid.

Slide the bracket -1- onto the inner tail lamp threaded pins.

Tighten the nut -2-.

Note. When tightening the nuts, the bracket wedges itself onto the rear lid -arrows-.

INNER TAIL LAMP BULB

Special tools and workshop equipment required

1. Trim Removal Wedge 3409

Removing

Turn off the ignition and remove the ignition key.

Turn the light switch to the "0" position.

Pry the cover -1- out using the 3409 -arrow-.

Press the locking bracket -2- in the -direction of the arrow- and remove the bulb socket -1- from the housing.

Remove the tail lamp/fog lamp bulb from the socket.

Remove the backup lamp bulb from the socket.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following

Insert the new bulb in the socket without touching the bulb with bare hands.

LED TAIL LAMPS, THROUGH MY 2012

Observe the notes on contact corrosion. Refer to CONTACT CORROSION .

Removing

Turn off the ignition and remove the ignition key.

Turn the light switch to the "0" position.

Open the luggage compartment side trim cover.

Remove the threaded pins -2-.

Pivot the tail lamp -1- outward -arrow- and disengage the retaining pins from the body.

Disconnect the electrical connector.

Installing

1. Tightening specification, refer to «OUTER TAIL LAMP»(/audi/a4/b8-2007-2012/remont/exterior-lights/#exterior-lights-switches-sedan) .

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following

Note. The self-adhesive seal on the tail lamp must seal correctly.

Position the tail lamp on the body and press the retaining pins into the holes.

Tighten the threaded pins.

Removing

Remove the outer tail lamp. Refer to OUTER TAIL LAMP .

Turn the bulb socket -1- counterclockwise -arrow- and remove it from the tail lamp.

Remove the bulb from the bulb socket.

Note. Disregard item -2-.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following

Insert the new bulb into the socket without touching the bulb with bare hands.

Turn the bulb socket clockwise to secure it.

Install the outer tail lamp. Refer to OUTER TAIL LAMP .

Special tools and workshop equipment required

Removing

Turn off the ignition and remove the ignition key.

Turn the light switch to the "0" position.

Pry the cover -1- out using the 3409 -arrow-.

Disconnect the electrical connector -5-.

Remove the nut -2- and then remove the large bracket -1-.

Remove the nut -4- and the small bracket -3-.

Remove the inner tail lamp toward the outside.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following

1. Tightening specification, refer to «INNER TAIL LAMP»(/audi/a4/b8-2007-2012/remont/exterior-lights/#exterior-lights-switches-sedan) .

Note. Make sure the seal between the body and tail lamp seals correctly.

Position the inner tail lamp on the outer edge of the rear lid.

Slide the small bracket -3- onto the threaded pins on the inner tail lamp and install the nut -4- loosely.

Slide the large bracket -1- onto the threaded pins on the inner tail lamp and tighten the nuts -2 and 4-.

Note. When tightening the nuts, the bracket wedges itself onto the rear lid -arrows-.

FOG LAMP BULB

Special tools and workshop equipment required

1. Trim Removal Wedge 3409

Removing

Turn off the ignition and remove the ignition key.

Turn the light switch to the "0" position.

Pry the cover -1- out using the 3409 -arrow-.

Turn the socket -1- counterclockwise -arrow- and remove it from the tail lamp.

Remove the fog lamp bulb from the socket.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following

Insert the new bulb in the socket without touching the bulb with bare hands.

BACKUP LAMP BULB

Special tools and workshop equipment required

1. Trim Removal Wedge 3409

Removing

Turn off the ignition and remove the ignition key.

Turn the light switch to the "0" position.

Pry the cover -1- out using the 3409 -arrow-.

Remove the nut -2- and remove the large bracket -1-.

Unlock the socket -3- : on the left tail lamp, turn counterclockwise -arrow- ; on the right tail lamp, turn clockwise.

Pull the socket out of the tail lamp.

Remove the backup lamp bulb from the socket.

Installing

1. Tightening specification, refer to «INNER TAIL LAMP»(/audi/a4/b8-2007-2012/remont/exterior-lights/#exterior-lights-switches-sedan) .

Install in reverse order of removal, observing the following

Insert the new bulb in the socket without touching the bulb with bare hands.

Slide the large bracket -1- onto the threaded pins on the inner tail lamp and tighten the nut -2-.

Note. When tightening the nut, the bracket wedges itself onto the rear lid.

OUTER TAIL LAMPS

Refer to the information regarding contact corrosion. Refer to CONTACT CORROSION .

Removing

Turn off the ignition and remove the key.

Turn the headlamp switch to "0".

Open the luggage compartment side trim cover.

Remove the threaded pins -2-.

Pivot the tail lamp -1- outward -arrow- and disengage retaining pins from the body.

Disconnect the connector.

Installing

1. Tightening specification, refer to «OUTER TAIL LAMP»(/audi/a4/b8-2007-2012/remont/exterior-lights/#exterior-lights-switches-sedan) .

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following

Note. The self-adhesive seal on the tail lamp housing must seal correctly.

Position the tail lamp on the body and press the retaining pins into the holes.

Tighten the threaded pins.

BACKUP LAMP BULB -M16- / -M17

Refer to the information regarding contact corrosion. Refer to CONTACT CORROSION .

Removing

Remove the outer tail lamp. Refer to OUTER TAIL LAMPS .

Turn the bulb socket -1- counter-clockwise -arrow- and remove it from the tail lamp housing.

Remove the backup lamp bulb from the bulb socket.

Installing

1. Tightening specification, refer to «INNER TAIL LAMP»(/audi/a4/b8-2007-2012/remont/exterior-lights/#exterior-lights-switches-sedan) .

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following

Insert new bulb in the bulb socket. Do not touch the glass bulbs with bare hands.

Install the outer tail lamp. Refer to OUTER TAIL LAMPS .

INNER TAIL LAMPS

Special tools and workshop equipment required

1. Removal Wedge 3409

Refer to the information regarding contact corrosion. Refer to CONTACT CORROSION .

Removing

Turn off the ignition and remove the key.

Turn the headlamp switch to "0".

Pry the cover -1- out using a 3409 -arrow-.

Disconnect the connector -1-.

Remove the nut -arrows-.

Remove the inner tail lamp toward the outside.

Installing

Install in reverse order of removal. Note the following

1. Tightening specification (Scheme 28)

Note. Replace the entire inner tail lamp if the LED is faulty. Make sure the seal between the body and tail lamp housing seals correctly.
