FUSES - CIRCUIT PROTECTION

WARNINGNever replace a fuse with one that has a higher amperage rating. A fuse with a too high amperage could damage the electrical part and cause a fire.

For access to fuse box see scheme 19

REPLACING A FUSE

A problem in the electrical system may be caused by a blown fuse.

  1. Switch off the ignition and the electrical component affected.
  2. Carefully pry the face cover off the instrument panel using the ignition key or a screwdriver. see scheme 19
  3. Check the fuse index to find out which fuse belongs to the component which has failed. See «FUSES»(/audi/a4/b7-2004-2009/remont/fuses-circuit-breakers/#fuses-circuit-breakers-cabriolet).
  4. Remove the blown fuse with the plastic clip provided. The clip is located on the holder in the fuse box.
  5. Replace a blown fuse (recognizable by the melted metal strip inside) with a fuse of the same amperage.
  6. Firmly snap the cover back onto the instrument panel face.

The various electrical circuits are protected by fuses. The fuses are clustered in a centralized unit. The unit is located behind the face panel at the end of the instrument panel.

Two spare fuses end a sticker identifying the fuses are located on the inside of the fuse box cover.

You are well advised to keep a supply of spare fuses in your vehicle. Fuses with the proper ampere ratings are available at your Audi dealer.

Note. On no account should fuses be repaired (e.g. with tin foil or wire) as this may cause serious damage elsewhere in the electrical circuit or cause fire. If a fuse blows repeatedly, do not keep replacing it. Track and fix shorted or overloaded circuit.

FUSE - COLOR CODES

Identifying fuse color and ampere rating, refer to table below.

WARNINGNever replace a fuse with one that has a higher amperage rating. A fuse with a too high amperage could damage the electrical part and cause a fire.
