Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Torque Wrench 40-200 Nm V.A.G 1332
Removing
Measure dimension from center of wheel to lower edge of wheel housing. Refer to REAR SUSPENSION, LIFTING TO CURB WEIGHT POSITION .
Remove the wheel.
Remove coil spring. Refer to COIL SPRING .
Disengage speed sensor wiring at upper transverse link -arrow A-.
Scheme 87
Remove bolt -1-.
Mark, for example using a felt-tip marker, position of eccentric bolt -arrow- to subframe.

Remove bolt -arrow-.
Remove upper transverse link.
Installing
Installation is the reverse of removal, with special attention to the following
Tightening specifications, refer to SUBFRAME, LOWER TRANSVERSE LINK, UPPER TRANSVERSE LINK, TIE ROD AND LEVEL CONTROL SYSTEM OVERVIEW .
Tightening specifications, refer to WHEEL BEARING HOUSING, WHEEL BEARING UNIT, TRAILING ARM WITH MOUNTING BRACKET AND STONE DEFLECTOR OVERVIEW .
Tightening specifications, refer to SHOCK ABSORBER AND COIL SPRING OVERVIEW .
Tightening specifications, refer to STABILIZER BAR OVERVIEW .
Install the bolt -3- and washer -4-.
Scheme 89
The washer -4- is installed on vehicles with an aluminum wheel bearing housing.
Note. Transverse link connection may only be carried out of dimension between wheel hub center and lower edge of wheel housing, measured before assembly, is achieved! Refer to REAR SUSPENSION, LIFTING TO CURB WEIGHT POSITION .
Note applied marking of eccentric bolt -arrow- to subframe.
Note. The washer -2- must be installed so that there is a gap -arrow B- between the washer and the cover plate -3-.
Axle alignment is required, see Table WHEEL ALIGNMENT .
