CONDENSER
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Spacer Tube 10 - 222 A /17
Note. Condenser is available in different versions, depending on version of vehicle. The radiator and condenser may have small indentations on the fins even when installed correctly. It is not damage. Do not replace the radiator or condenser because of those small indentations.
Removing
Evacuate the refrigerant circuit. Refer to EVACUATING REFRIGERANT CIRCUIT .
Remove front bumper. Refer to Removal and Installation .
Disconnect refrigerant lines from condenser, refer to REFRIGERANT LINES, DISCONNECTING FROM CONDENSER .
The following additional work may be necessary to remove condenser, depending on engine version
- Disengage front end module from longitudinal member and pull forward approximately 10 cm (for example, in vehicles with 2.0L gasoline engine), then proceed as follows
Disengage bracket for refrigerant lines on right longitudinal member -arrow-.

Protect front corners of both fenders from damage, for example, with adhesive tape -1-.
Scheme 65
Mark position of front end module to both fender flanges -2- for example, using a suitable pin -3-.
Remove mounting bolts -4- of front end module at fender flanges.
Remove upper mounting bolt -3- of front end module at both longitudinal members and insert a long bolt -4- (for example, M10 x 120) into upper mount point on left and right longitudinal member.
Scheme 66
Remove one of the two lower mounting bolts -5- of front end module at both longitudinal members and mark position of front end module -2- to mounting points on left and right longitudinal members e.g. using a suitable pin -1-.
Remove the remaining mounting bolts -5- for front end module (on longitudinal members). Refer to Removal and Installation .
Carefully pull front end module toward front over bolts -1-.
Scheme 67
Secure the left and right front end modules with an additional screw -2- (for example, M 10 x 120) and a 10 - 222 A /17.
Remove the radiator fan -B- with the mount (for example on 2.0L gasoline vehicles). Refer to RADIATOR AND RADIATOR FAN COMPONENT OVERVIEW .
Procedure continued for all vehicles
Remove bolts -A- and disengage radiator (with condenser) -B- from front end module -C-. Refer to RADIATOR AND RADIATOR FAN COMPONENT OVERVIEW .

Remove bolts -A- and -B- (tightening torque 5 Nm).
Scheme 69
Loosen the condenser -C- from the radiator -D
Remove condenser -C- upward.
Installing
Installation is carried out in the reverse order, when doing this note the following
Make sure that sealing strips -E- and -F- are adhered correctly to condenser -C- (not installed in all versions).
Note. The removed condenser contains refrigerant oil that must be returned to the refrigerant circuit (with the new condenser), refer to COMPRESSOR, REPLACING WITHOUT FLUSHING REFRIGERANT CIRCUIT . Depending on version of vehicle and of radiator, a spacer -G- may be installed, replace it if necessary according to illustration. Depending on version of vehicle, a stone deflector -B- may also be secured with clips -C- at lower area of condenser -A-.
Evacuate and re-charge refrigerant circuit. Refer to CHARGING REFRIGERANT CIRCUIT and refer to DRAINING REFRIGERANT CIRCUIT .
Operate the A/C system after filling the refrigerant circuit, refer to A/C SYSTEM, OPERATING AFTER FILLING REFRIGERANT CIRCUIT .
