OIL PAN AND OIL PUMP ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW
Note. If large quantities of metal particles or other deposits such as those caused by partial seizure of the crankshaft or connecting rod damage are found in the engine oil, clean the oil channels thoroughly and replace the engine oil cooler to prevent further damage.
Oil pressure, checking. Refer to OIL PRESSURE AND OIL PRESSURE SWITCH, CHECKING .

Oil Pan, Upper Section, Tightening Sequence
Tighten bolts in 3 stages in -1 to 14- sequence as follows

Oil Separator Tightening Sequence
Tighten bolts to 9 Nm in the sequence -1 to 9-.
OIL PRESSURE AND OIL PRESSURE SWITCH, CHECKING
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Oil Pressure Gauge V.A.G 1342
- Voltage Tester V.A.G 1527 B
- Connector Test Set V.A.G 1594 C
Test Prerequisites
- Oil level OK, checking, refer to «ENGINE, CHECKING OIL LEVEL»(/audi/a3/8p-2-2008-2013/remont/procedures/#how-to-diagnosis-the-maintenance-maintenance-procedures__engine-checking-oil-level) .
- The oil pressure indicator lamp must light up for approximately 3 seconds when the ignition is switched on.
- On vehicles with Auto-Check-System, the indicator "OK" must light up (check symbol).
- Engine oil temperature at least 80 °C (176 °F) (radiator fan must start up once).
Note. For the functional check and servicing of the optical and acoustic oil pressure warning: wiring diagrams and => "Function and Component Selection".
Test Sequence
- Tightening specifications, refer to «OIL FILTER AND OIL COOLER ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW»(/audi/a3/8p-2-2008-2013/remont/lubrication-system/#20l-lubrication-engine-codes-cbfa-ccta) .
Remove the oil pressure switch -F1- and install it in the tester.
Scheme 33
Thread oil pressure gauge into oil filter bracket in place of oil pressure switch.
Connect brown wire of tester to Ground (GND).
Connect V.A.G 1527 B using adapter cables from V.A.G 1594 C to battery positive and oil pressure switch -F1-. LED must not light up.
If the LED illuminates, replace the oil pressure switch -F1-.
If the LED does not light up
Start the engine and let it run at increased RPM: the LED must come on at 1.2 to 1.6 bar, otherwise replace the oil pressure switch -F1-. Increase engine speed further. At 2000 RPM and an oil temperature of 80 °C (176 °F), the oil pressure should be between 2.7 bar and 4.5 bar.
OIL LEVEL, CHECKING
Check oil level. Refer to ENGINE, CHECKING OIL LEVEL
OIL SEPARATOR
Removing
Remove noise insulation. Refer to Removal and Installation .
Cabriolet
Remove the noise insulation bracket. Refer to Removal and Installation .
All
Remove the bolts -1 through 9- and remove the oil separator.
| CAUTION | Risk of contaminating lubricating system. Seal the opening with a clean cloth. |
Installing
Note. Always replace gaskets and seals. Secure all the hose connections with hose clamps appropriate for the model.
Installation is in reverse order of removal, note the following

OIL PAN LOWER SECTION

Removing
Remove noise insulation. Refer to Removal and Installation .
Cabriolet
Remove the noise insulation bracket. Refer to Removal and Installation .
All
Disconnect the electrical connector -1- on the oil level thermal sensor -G266-.

Drain engine oil.
Remove the bolts -1 to 20-.
Remove oil pan, if necessary loosen by applying light strikes with a rubber hammer.
Installing

| CAUTION | Risk of contaminating lubricating system and bearing. Cover open parts of engine. |
Note. Note the expiration date of the silicone sealant. The oil pan must be installed within 5 minutes after the silicone sealant has been applied.
Spray the sealing surface with sealant remover and allow it to work.
Remove any sealant residue on the upper section of the oil pan using a flat blade scraper.

Remove any remaining sealant on oil pan lower section using for example a rotating plastic brush.
Scheme 35
Clean sealing surfaces, must be free of oil and grease.
Cut tube nozzle at front marking (jet dia. approximately 3 mm).

Apply silicon sealant to clean sealing surfaces of the oil pan (lower section) as shown in illustration.
Scheme 37
| CAUTION | The lubrication system could be plugged with excess sealant. Do not apply sealant bead thicker than indicated. |
- Sealant bead thickness: 2 to 3 mm.
Note. The oil pan must be installed within 5 minutes after the silicone sealant has been applied. The sealant bead may not be thicker than specified, otherwise excess sealant could enter the oil pan and clog the oil intake tube.
Position the lower section of the oil pan immediately and tighten the bolts, tightening sequence OIL PAN AND OIL PUMP ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW .
Note. After installing oil pan, allow sealant to dry for approximately 30 minutes. Only after then may the engine oil be replenished.
Fill engine oil and check oil level. Refer to ENGINE OIL, FILLING .
The rest of the assembly is basically a reverse of the disassembling sequence.
OIL PUMP

- Assembly Tool T10118
Removing
Remove the noise insulation in the center by loosening the fasteners -1 and 2-.

Disconnect the electrical connector -1- on the oil level thermal sensor -G266-.
Drain engine oil.
Remove the bolts -1 to 20-.
Remove oil pan, if necessary loosen by applying light strikes with a rubber hammer.
Remove the oil baffle -arrows-.

Note. The following procedure must be performed in one step. A second technician is needed.
Remove the bolts -arrows- and the oil pump.

Pull back the chain tensioner using the T10118 and have a second technician remove the oil pump.

Installing

Installation is in the reverse order of removal, note the following
Make sure both alignment bushings for centering the oil pump are in there.
Replace the baffle plate.
Note. There are plastic ribs on the oil baffle that deform permanently when tightening. The plastic ribs ensure the oil baffle is not loosen and does not rattle. Because of this, always replace the oil baffle.
Install oil pan lower section, refer to OIL PAN LOWER SECTION .
| CAUTION | Danger of causing damage to the engine. The following procedure must be observed otherwise the chain tensioner spring does not spring into the installed position |
Pull the chain tensioner spring with the -T10118- in the direction of the -arrow- and remove the -T40265-.
Insert the new oil baffle and attach it.
Note. There are plastic ribs on the oil baffle that deform permanently when tightening. The plastic ribs ensure the oil baffle is not loosen and does not rattle. Because of this, always replace the oil baffle.
Install lower oil pan, refer to 1/21/2 1/2g5.2 Lower Oil Pan1/2g, page 184.
OIL PAN, UPPER SECTION
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Assembly Tool T10118
- Testing Tool for Brake Wear VW 136
- Torque Wrench V.A.G 1331
- Hand drill with plastic brush attachment
- Protective eyewear
Removing
Remove the transmission. Refer to [For transmission(s) 02Q] Removal and Installation or TRANSMISSION, REMOVING [For engine(s) CCTA, CBFA, BPY, AXX, BWA] .
Remove the lower oil pan section. Refer to OIL PAN LOWER SECTION .
Remove the oil pump. Refer to OIL PUMP .
Remove the transmission-side sealing flange. Refer to TRANSMISSION-SIDE SEALING FLANGE .
Remove the front right wheel housing liner. Refer to Removal and Installation .
Remove bolts -arrows-.

Remove the air guide pipe by lifting the clamps -1 and 2-.
Remove the bolt -1)

Disconnect the wiring bracket mount next to the After-Run Coolant Pump -V51- from the upper section of the oil pan.
Disconnect electrical connector -1-.

| WARNING | Risk of injury. When removing the oil pan upper section, the chain tensioner spring for the oil pump motor will jump from the oil pan upper section to the lower timing chain cover. When removing the oil pan upper section, do not reach between the section and the lower timing chain cover. |
Remove the bolts -1 through 14- and pry out the upper section of the oil pan.
| CAUTION | First pry the upper section oil pan out on the transmission side. When prying out, be careful not to bend the timing chain cover. |
Installing

Note. Note the expiration date of the silicone sealant. The oil pan upper section must be installed within 5 minutes after the silicone sealant has been applied.
Mount the T10118 and pull the spring in the oil pump drive chain tensioner in the direction of the -arrow-.
Scheme 46
Secure the spring by inserting the VW 136 into the hole in the guide rail as illustrated.
Remove any sealant residue on the cylinder block using a flat blade scraper.

Remove the remaining sealant on the upper section of the oil and on the lower timing chain cover, for example with a rotating plastic brush.
Scheme 47
Note. See if the timing chain cover is deformed. Then mount the top section of the oil pan without any sealant and check the gap between the cover and the top section. If deformation is found and the cover cannot be aligned, replace the cover after installing the oil pan upper section.
Clean sealing surfaces, must be free of oil and grease.
Make sure the oil passages in the upper part of the oil pan and in the cylinder crankcase clean.
Cut tube nozzle at front marking (jet dia. approximately 3 mm).
Apply the silicone sealant on the clean sealing surfaces on the oil pan upper section and on the timing chain guard lower section -arrows- as illustrated.
Scheme 48
| CAUTION | The lubrication system could be plugged with excess sealant. Do not apply sealant bead thicker than indicated. |
- Sealant bead thickness: 2 to 3 mm.
Note. The oil pan upper section must be installed within 5 minutes after the silicone sealant has been applied. The sealant bead may not be thicker than specified, otherwise excess sealant could enter the oil pan and clog the oil intake tube.
- On the transmission side, the upper section of the oil pan and the crankcase must align.
Position the upper section of the oil pan immediately and tighten the bolts, tightening sequence OIL PAN AND OIL PUMP ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW .
Install the bolts -arrows-. Tightening specifications -13- TIMING CHAIN COVER ASSEMBLY OVERVIEW => Bolt .
Remove the brake pad wear indicator testing tool VW 136 from the guide rail -arrow-. The spring now returns to the installation position.
Scheme 49
Install the sealing flange on the transmission side. Refer to TRANSMISSION-SIDE SEALING FLANGE .
Install the oil pump OIL PUMP .
Replace the baffle plate.
Install oil pan lower section OIL PAN LOWER SECTION .
Fill engine oil and check oil level => 808.
The rest of the assembly is basically a reverse of the disassembling sequence.
ENGINE OIL COOLER
Special tools and workshop equipment required
- Drip Tray VAS 6208
Removing
| WARNING | Risk of scalding due to hot steam and hot coolant. When the engine is warm the cooling system is under pressure. To reduce pressure, cover coolant reservoir cap with cloth and carefully open. |
Drain coolant. Refer to COOLING SYSTEM, DRAINING AND FILLING .
Remove the accessory assembly bracket. Refer to ACCESSORY ASSEMBLY BRACKET .
Remove the bolts -4 and 5- and remove the engine oil cooler -3- together with the seal -2-.

Installing
Installation is in reverse order of removal, note the following

Note. Always replace gaskets and seals. Secure all hose connections with hose clamps appropriate for the model.
Install the engine oil cooler -3- with a new seal -2-.
Install the accessory assembly bracket. Refer to ACCESSORY ASSEMBLY BRACKET .
Fill with coolant COOLING SYSTEM, DRAINING AND FILLING => Filling .
