MANUFACTURER'S SUGGESTED SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE
Although the manufacturer does not recommend a specific scheduled maintenance interval, belt manufacturers suggest the belt be replaced at 60,000 mile intervals.
Removal
- Disconnect negative battery cable. Use exploded view to locate components. (Scheme 1) Match mark all components for reassembly reference. Place crankshaft at TDC with No. 1 cylinder on compression stroke. Remove alternator belt. Remove A/C and power steering belts (if equipped).
- Remove upper timing belt cover. Remove water pump and crankshaft pulleys. Remove lower timing belt cover. Remove timing belt.

Installation
- Align flywheel/flexplate "0" mark with pointer. Remove distributor cap, and check position of ignition rotor. Rotate intermediate shaft and position rotor at No. 1 cylinder mark on housing. (Scheme 2) Install timing belt on crankshaft and intermediate shaft gears.
- With intermediate shaft/ignition rotor positioned, rotate crankshaft and align mark on crankshaft pulley with mark on intermediate shaft sprocket. Position camshaft sprocket mark even with base of valve cover. (Scheme 3)or (Scheme 4). Install timing belt on camshaft sprocket.
- Rotate tensioner clockwise to tighten belt and install lock nut. Proper tension is achieved when belt can be twisted 90 degrees. see scheme 5 Rotate crankshaft 2 revolutions and check timing mark alignment. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure. Adjust drive belts to proper tension.
