  1. Raise the front of the vehicle, and support it with safety stands in the proper locations (see «LIFT AND SUPPORT POINTS»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/hoistjack/#general-information__lift-and-support-points) )
  2. Remove the wheel nuts and the front wheel
  3. Remove the brake hose bracket mounting bolt (A)
  4. Remove the brake caliper bracket mounting bolts (B), then remove the caliper assembly (C) from the knuckle To prevent damage to the caliper assembly or the brake hose, use a short piece of wire to hang the caliper assembly from the undercarriage Do not twist the brake hose excessively
  5. Remove the wheel speed sensor harness bracket (A) and the wheel speed sensor (B) from the knuckle Do not disconnect the wheel speed sensor connector
  6. Raise the stake (A), then remove the spindle nut (B)
  7. Remove the front brake disc (see «FRONT BRAKE DISC REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/mechanical-hydraulic/#conventional-brake-components__front-brake-disc-replacement) )
  8. Check the front hub for damage and cracks
  9. Remove the cotter pin (A) from the tie-rod end ball joint, then remove the nut (B) NOTE: During installation, install the new cotter pin after tightening the nut, and bend its end as shown
  10. Disconnect the tie-rod end ball joint from the knuckle using the ball joint thread protector and the ball joint remover (see «BALL JOINT REMOVAL»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/wheel-alignment/#front-suspension-and-rear-suspension-inspection__ball-joint-removal) )
  11. Remove the cotter pin (A) from the knuckle ball joint, then remove the castle nut (B) NOTE: Use the new castle nut during reassembly During installation, insert the new cotter pin into the ball joint pin hole from the front to the rear of the vehicle, and bend its end as shown Check the ball joint pin hole direction before connecting the ball joint
  12. Disconnect the knuckle ball joint from the lower arm using the ball joint thread protector and the ball joint remover (see «BALL JOINT REMOVAL»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/wheel-alignment/#front-suspension-and-rear-suspension-inspection__ball-joint-removal) ) NOTE: Be careful not to damage the ball joint boot when installing the remover Do not force or hammer on the lower arm, or pry between the lower arm and the knuckle You could damage the ball joint
  13. Remove the cotter pin (A) from the upper arm ball joint, then remove the castle nut (B) NOTE: During installation, insert the new cotter pin into the ball joint pin hole from the front to the rear of the vehicle, and bend its end as shown Check the ball joint pin hole direction before connecting the ball joint.
  14. Disconnect the upper arm ball joint from the knuckle using the ball joint thread protector and the ball joint remover (see «BALL JOINT REMOVAL»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/wheel-alignment/#front-suspension-and-rear-suspension-inspection__ball-joint-removal) )
  15. Remove the driveshaft outboard joint (A) from the knuckle (B) by tapping the driveshaft end (C) with a soft face hammer while drawing the hub outward, then remove the knuckle/hub NOTE: Do not pull the driveshaft end outward The driveshaft inboard joint may come apart During installation, apply grease to the mating surfaces of the wheel bearing and the driveshaft outboard joint (see step 1 on «FRONT DRIVESHAFT INSTALLATION»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/axle-shafts/#drivelineaxle__front-driveshaft-installation) )
  16. Install the knuckle/hub in the reverse order of removal, and note these items First install all of the components, and lightly tighten the bolts and the nuts, then raise the suspension to load it with the vehicle's weight before fully tightening to the specified torque values Do not place the jack against the ball joint pin of the knuckle Be careful not to damage the ball joint boot when connecting the knuckle Before connecting the ball joint, degrease the threaded section and the tapered portion of the ball joint pin, the ball joint connecting hole, the threaded section, and the mating surfaces of the castle nut Torque the castle nut to the lower torque specification, then tighten it only far enough to align the slot with the ball joint pin hole Do not align the castle nut by loosening it Use a new spindle nut on reassembly Before installing the spindle nut, apply a small amount of engine oil to the seating surface of the nut After tightening, use a drift to stake the spindle nut shoulder against the driveshaft Before installing the brake disc, clean the mating surfaces of the front hub and the inside of the brake disc Before installing the wheel, clean the mating surfaces of the brake disc and the inside of the wheel
  17. Check the wheel alignment, and adjust it if necessary (see «WHEEL ALIGNMENT»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/wheel-alignment/#front-suspension-and-rear-suspension-inspection__wheel-alignment) )

  1. Separate the hub (A) from the knuckle (B) using the hub dis/assembly tool and a hydraulic press Hold the knuckle with the attachment (C) of the hydraulic press or equivalent tool Be careful not to damage or deform the splash guard (D) Hold onto the hub to keep it from falling when pressed clear
  2. Press the wheel bearing inner race (A) off of the hub (B) using the hub dis/assembly tool, a commercially available bearing separator (C), and a press
  3. Remove the snap ring (A) and the splash guard (B) from the knuckle (C)
  4. Press the wheel bearing (A) out of the knuckle (B) using the attachment, the driver handle, and a press
  5. Wash the knuckle and the hub thoroughly in high flash point solvent before reassembly
  6. Press a new wheel bearing (A) into the knuckle (B) using the old bearing (C), a steel plate (D), the attachment, the support base, and a press NOTE: Install the wheel bearing with the wheel speed sensor magnetic encoder (E) (brown color), toward the inside of the knuckle Remove any oil, grease, dust, metal debris, and other foreign material from the encoder surface Keep any magnetic tools away from the encoder surface Be careful not to damage the encoder surface when you insert the wheel bearing
  7. Check the front knuckle ring (A) for damage or deformation, and replace it if necessary NOTE: When installing the new front knuckle ring, position the knuckle ring notch portion (B) toward the cut out (C) near the ball joint in the knuckle, and align the center of the knuckle ring ledge portion (D) with the center of the wheel speed sensor hole (E) on the knuckle as shown
  8. Install the new snap ring (A) securely in the knuckle (B)
  9. Install the splash guard (C), and tighten the screws (D) to the specified torque value
  10. Install the hub (A) onto the knuckle (B) using the attachment, the driver handle, the support base, and a hydraulic press Be careful not to damage the splash guard (C)

Upper Arm Replacement

  1. Raise the front of the vehicle, and support it with safety stands in the proper locations (see «LIFT AND SUPPORT POINTS»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/hoistjack/#general-information__lift-and-support-points) )
  2. Remove the front wheel
  3. Remove the front damper/spring (see «DAMPER/SPRING REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/suspension-front/#front-suspension) )
  4. Remove the cotter pin (A) from the upper arm ball joint, then remove the castle nut (B) NOTE: During installation, install the new cotter pin into the ball joint pin hole from the front to the rear of the vehicle, and bend its end as shown Check the ball joint pin hole direction before connecting the ball joint
  5. Disconnect the upper arm ball joint from the knuckle using the ball joint thread protector and the ball joint remover (see «BALL JOINT REMOVAL»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/wheel-alignment/#front-suspension-and-rear-suspension-inspection__ball-joint-removal) )
  6. Remove the upper arm mounting bolts (A), then remove the upper arm (B) NOTE: Use new upper arm mounting bolts during reassembly
  7. Install the upper arm in the reverse order of removal, and note these items First install all of the components, and lightly tighten the bolts and the nuts, then raise the suspension to load it with the vehicle's weight before fully tightening it to the specified torque values Do not place the jack against the ball joint pin of the knuckle Be careful not to damage the ball joint boot when connecting the knuckle Before connecting the ball joint, degrease the threaded section and the tapered portion of the ball joint pin, the ball joint connecting hole, the threaded section, and the mating surfaces of the castle nut Torque the castle nut to the lower torque specification, then tighten it only far enough to align the slot with the ball joint pin hole Do not align the castle nut by loosening it Before installing the wheel, clean the mating surfaces of the brake disc and the inside of the wheel

  2. Remove the front wheel

  4. Remove the front splash shield (see «FRONT SPLASH SHIELD REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/exterior-body-panels/#fenderwell__front-splash-shield-replacement) )
  5. Remove the damper fork mounting nut (A) while holding the mounting bolt (B), then remove the mounting bolt NOTE: Use the new damper fork mounting bolt and the new mounting nut, and torque the nut while holding the bolt during reassembly
  6. Disconnect the stabilizer link from the lower arm (see «COMPLIANCE BUSHING BRACKET REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/suspension-front/#front-suspension) )
  7. Remove the cotter pin (A) from the knuckle ball joint, then remove the castle nut (B) NOTE: Use the new castle nut during reassembly During installation, insert the new cotter pin into the ball joint pin hole from the front to the rear of the vehicle, and bend its end as shown Check the ball joint pin hole direction before connecting the ball joint
  8. Disconnect the knuckle ball joint from the lower arm using the ball joint thread protector and the ball joint remover (see «BALL JOINT REMOVAL»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/wheel-alignment/#front-suspension-and-rear-suspension-inspection__ball-joint-removal) ) NOTE: Be careful not to damage the ball joint boot when installing the remover Do not force or hammer on the lower arm, or pry between the lower arm and the knuckle You could damage the ball joint
  9. Disconnect the driveshaft outboard joint (A) from the knuckle (B) by tapping the driveshaft end (C) with a soft face hammer while drawing the hub outward NOTE: Do not pull the driveshaft end outward The driveshaft inboard joint may come apart
  10. Remove the lower arm mounting bolts, mounting nuts, and the washers, then remove the lower arm (A) NOTE: Use new lower arm mounting bolts, new mounting nuts, and new washers during reassembly
  11. Install the lower arm in the reverse order of removal, and note these items First install all of the components, and lightly tighten the bolts and the nuts, then raise the suspension to load it with the vehicle's weight before fully tightening it to the specified torque values Do not place the jack against the ball joint pin of the knuckle Be careful not to damage the ball joint boot when connecting the knuckle Before connecting the ball joint, degrease the threaded section and the tapered portion of the ball joint pin, the ball joint connecting hole, the threaded section, and the mating surfaces of the castle nut Torque the castle nut to the lower torque specification, then tighten it only far enough to align the slot with the ball joint pin hole Do not align the castle nut by loosening it Before installing the wheel, clean the mating surfaces of the brake disc and the inside of the wheel

  1. Remove the self-locking nut (A), then remove the lower arm stopper (B) and the compliance bushing bracket (C) NOTE: Do not remove the compliance bushing from the bracket
  2. Position the lower arm (A) with the end (B) of the compliance bushing bracket to the angle as shown
  3. Install a new self-locking nut (C), then tighten the nut to the specified torque value

Scheme 26: Stabilizer Link Removal/Installation
  1. Raise the front of the vehicle, and support it with safety stands in the proper locations (see «LIFT AND SUPPORT POINTS»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/hoistjack/#general-information__lift-and-support-points) )
  2. Remove the front wheel
  3. Remove the flange nuts (A) while holding the respective joint pin (B) with a hex wrench (C), then remove the stabilizer link (D)
  4. Install the stabilizer link on the stabilizer bar (E) and the lower arm (F) with the joint pins set at the center of their range of movement NOTE: The stabilizer link has a paint mark (G) The left stabilizer link is marked with yellow paint, and the right stabilizer link is marked with white paint
  5. Install the new flange nuts, and tighten them to the specified torque value while holding the respective joint pin with a hex wrench
  6. Clean the mating surfaces of the brake disc and the inside of the wheel, then install the front wheel

Stabilizer Bar Replacement

  1. Note these items during replacement Be sure to remove the steering wheel before disconnecting the steering joint Damage to the cable reel can occur Lower the front subframe from the body, and replace the front stabilizer bar through the gap created by lowering the front subframe
  2. Disconnect the support struts from both sides of the pivot ball (bolted to the hood) Secure the hood in a vertical position Install the right side pivot ball into the lower threaded hole NOTE: Do not attempt to close the hood with the support strut in the vertical position, as it will damage the support strut and hood
  3. Remove the engine compartment covers (see «ENGINE COMPARTMENT COVER REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#exterior-trim__engine-compartment-cover-replacement) )
  4. Do the battery terminal disconnection procedure (see «BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION AND RECONNECTION»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/body-electrical/#battery) )
  5. Remove the front strut brace (see «FRAME BRACE REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/frames-subframes-crossmembers/#frame) )
  6. Raise the vehicle, and support it with safety stands in the proper locations (see «LIFT AND SUPPORT POINTS»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/hoistjack/#general-information__lift-and-support-points) )
  7. Remove the front wheels
  8. Disconnect both sides of the stabilizer link from the stabilizer bar (see «COMPLIANCE BUSHING BRACKET REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/suspension-front/#front-suspension) ).
  9. Disconnect both sides of the tie-rod end ball joint from the knuckle (see step 9 on «KNUCKLE/HUB REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/suspension-front/#front-suspension) )
  10. Remove the driver's airbag and the steering wheel (see «STEERING WHEEL REMOVAL»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/electronic-steering/#power-steering-system__steering-wheel-removal) )
  11. Remove the steering joint cover (A)
  12. Loosen the upper steering joint bolt (A), and remove the lower steering joint bolt (B) Disconnect the steering joint (C) by moving the steering joint toward the column Do not disconnect the steering joint from the column shaft (D) NOTE: If the center guide (E) is in place and has not moved, leave it in place If the center guide has moved or been removed, discard it
  13. Remove the connector bracket (A) from the front cylinder head, use the bracket bolt hole to attach the engine hanger balance bar front arm
  14. Disconnect the vacuum hose (A) and remove the harness clamp (B), then remove the engine mount control solenoid valve bracket from the rear cylinder head, use the bracket bolt hole to attach the 2008 V6 attachment arm (SIL02C000033)
  15. Lift and support the engine with the engine support hanger (AAR-T1256) and the engine hanger balance bar (VSB02C000019) Attach the front arm (A) to the front cylinder head with a spacer (B) and a 10 x 1 25 mm bolt (C) Remove the rear arm from the engine hanger balance bar, and install the 2008 V6 attachment arm (SIL02C000033), then attach the 2008 V6 attachment arm (D) to the rear cylinder head with a 8 x 1 25 mm bolt (E)
  16. Remove the front engine mount stop (A), then remove the front engine mount bolt (B) NOTE: Use new nuts (C) and a front engine mount bolt during reassembly
  17. Remove the rear engine mount stop (A) NOTE: Use new nuts (B) during reassembly
  18. Remove the rear engine mount bolt (C) from the rear engine mount (D) NOTE: Use a new rear engine mount bolt during reassembly
  19. Raise the vehicle on the lift
  20. Remove the front splash shield (see «FRONT SPLASH SHIELD REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/exterior-body-panels/#fenderwell__front-splash-shield-replacement) )
  21. Remove the flange bolts, and remove the front subframe stiffener (A) NOTE: Use new flange bolts during reassembly
  22. Remove exhaust pipe A Without SH-AWD (see «EXHAUST PIPE AND MUFFLER REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/mechanical/#intake-manifold-and-exhaust-system__exhaust-pipe-and-muffler-replacement) ) With SH-AWD (see «EXHAUST PIPE AND MUFFLER REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/mechanical/#intake-manifold-and-exhaust-system__exhaust-pipe-and-muffler-replacement) )
  23. With SH-AWD Remove the propeller shaft (see «PROPELLER SHAFT REMOVAL»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/axle-shafts/#drivelineaxle) )
  24. Remove the front subframe mounting bolts and the front subframe middle mounts (A) NOTE: Use new mounting bolts during reassembly
  25. Remove the nuts (A) securing the lower transmission mount
  26. Attach the front subframe adapter (VSB02C000016) to a transmission jack, then raise up the jack to the subframe Hang the belt (A) over the front of the subframe, then secure the belt by inserting the stop (B) and then tighten the wing nut (C)
  27. Remove the stiffener mounting bolt (A) on both sides of the front stiffener (B)
  28. Loosen the subframe mounting bolts (C) until there is 30 mm (1 3/16 in) distance between the bolt seat and the mounting surface Do not loosen the mounting bolts more than necessary
  29. Remove the stiffener mounting bolt (A) on both sides of the rear stiffener (B)
  30. Loosen the subframe mounting bolts (C) until there is 30 mm (1 3/16 in) distance between the bolt seat and the mounting surface Do not loosen the mounting bolts more than necessary
  31. Lower the transmission jack slowly with the front subframe adapter until the front subframe has dropped about 30 mm (1 3/16 in) NOTE: Do not try to lower the front subframe beyond the loosened subframe mounting bolts clearance
  32. Remove the flange bolts (A) and the bushing holders (B), then remove the bushings (C) NOTE: Use new flange bolts during reassembly
  33. Move the stabilizer bar (D) toward the passenger's side, and remove the stabilizer bar
  34. Install the stabilizer bar NOTE: Note the right and left direction of the stabilizer bar Note the direction of installation for the bushings Do not set the bushings on the bent or curved part of the stabilizer bar
  35. Loosely tighten the new right rear subframe mounting bolt (A) and the new stiffener mounting bolt (B), insert the 15 7 mm side of the subframe alignment pin (070AG-SJAA10S) through the positioning slot (C) on the rear stiffener, through the positioning hole (D) on the front subframe, and into the positioning hole (E) on the body, then tighten the right rear subframe mounting bolt
  36. Loosely tighten the new left rear subframe mounting bolt and the new stiffener mounting bolt with the same procedure as the right rear using the subframe alignment pin
  37. Loosely tighten the new subframe mounting bolt (A) and the stiffener mounting bolt (B) to both front stiffeners (C)
  38. Tighten the right rear subframe mounting bolt (A) to the specified torque value
  39. Tighten the left rear subframe mounting bolt (B) to the specified torque value
  40. Tighten the front side subframe mounting bolts (C) to the specified torque value NOTE: Check all of the subframe mounting bolts, and retighten if necessary
  41. Tighten the stiffener mounting bolts (D) to the specified torque values NOTE: Before tightening the stiffener mounting bolts, check that the positioning holes and slot are aligned using the subframe alignment pin
  42. Install all of the removed parts in the reverse order of removal, and note these items. Refer to stabilizer link removal/installation to connect the stabilizer bar to the links (see «COMPLIANCE BUSHING BRACKET REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/suspension-front/#front-suspension) ) If the center guide is in place, use it to determine the steering joint installation angle If the center guide is gone, check the steering joint installation angle (see step 3 on «INSTALLATION»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/electronic-steering/#power-steering-system) ) Check the steering wheel installation (see «STEERING WHEEL INSTALLATION»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/electronic-steering/#power-steering-system__steering-wheel-installation) ) When connecting the front and rear engine mount, first lightly tighten the mounting bolts, supporting the engine/transmission with a floor jack, then remove the jack, and tighten the bolts to the specified torque values Before installing the wheel, clean the mating surfaces of the brake disc and inside of the wheel
  43. Do the battery terminal reconnection procedure (see «BATTERY TERMINAL DISCONNECTION AND RECONNECTION»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/body-electrical/#battery) ), then turn the ignition switch to ON (II) and check that the SRS indicator should come on for about 6 seconds and then go off.

  2. Remove the front wheel
  3. Remove the wheel speed sensor harness bracket mounting bolt (A)
  4. Remove the damper pinch bolt (A) and the damper fork mounting nut (B) while holding the mounting bolt (C), then remove the damper fork (D) from the damper and the lower arm.
  5. Remove the front strut brace mounting nuts (A)
  6. Remove the damper mounting nuts (B) from the top of the damper Do not let the damper/spring drop down under its own weight
  7. Remove the damper/spring (A) NOTE: Be careful not to damage the body

  1. Position the damper/spring (A) in the body with the aligning tab (B) facing inside NOTE: Be careful not to damage the body
  2. Loosely install the new damper mounting nuts (A) to the top of the damper
  3. Loosely install the front strut brace mounting nuts (B)
  4. Install the damper fork (A) over the driveshaft and onto the lower arm (B) Install the aligning tab (C) on the damper unit into the slot (D) of the damper fork
  5. Loosely install the damper pinch bolt (E) into the damper fork
  6. Connect the damper fork and the lower arm with the new damper fork mounting bolt (F), then lightly tighten the new mounting nut (G)
  7. Place a floor jack under the lower arm, and raise the suspension to load it with the vehicle's weight
  8. Tighten the damper pinch bolt and the damper fork mounting nut while holding the mounting bolt to the specified torque values
  9. Tighten the damper mounting nuts and front strut brace mounting nuts on top of the damper to the specified torque values
  10. Install the wheel speed sensor harness bracket (A)
  11. Clean the mating surfaces of the brake disc and the inside of the wheel, then install the front wheel
  12. Check the wheel alignment, and adjust it if necessary (see «WHEEL ALIGNMENT»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/wheel-alignment/#front-suspension-and-rear-suspension-inspection__wheel-alignment) )

  1. Reassemble all the parts, except for the damper spring
  2. Compress the damper assembly by hand, and check for smooth operation through a full stroke, both compression and extension The damper should extend smoothly and constantly when compression is released If it does not, the gas is leaking and the damper should be replaced
  3. Check for oil leaks, abnormal noises, and binding during these tests

  1. Install the spring mounting cushion (A) on the damper mounting base (B) by aligning the tab (C) and notch (D)
  2. Install all the parts except the damper mounting washer (Without SH-AWD) and the self-locking nut onto the damper unit by referring to the Exploded View
  3. Compress the damper spring using a strut spring compressor Do not compress the spring excessively
  4. Align the lower end (A) of the damper spring with the stepped part (B) of the dust cover lower mount and the lower spring seat on the damper unit
  5. Position the tab (A) on the spring mounting cushion facing forward but toward the inside of the vehicle Left Right
  6. Align the angle of the stud (B) on the damper mounting base (C) with the aligning tab (D) on the bottom of the damper unit as shown
  7. Install the damper mounting washer (Without SH-AWD) (A) and the new self-locking nut (B)
  8. Hold the damper shaft with a hex wench (C), and tighten the self-locking nut to the specified torque value
  9. Remove the damper/spring from the strut spring compressor
