- Disconnect the support struts from both sides of the pivot ball (bolted to the hood) Secure the hood in a vertical position Install the right side pivot ball into the lower threaded hole NOTE: Do not attempt to close the hood with the support strut in the vertical position, as it will damage the support strut and hood

- Remove the air intake duct splash separator
- Do the battery removal procedure (see «BATTERY REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/body-electrical/#battery) )
- Remove the air cleaner assembly (see «THROTTLE BODY CLEANING»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/testing-diagnostics/#intake-air-system__throttle-body-cleaning) )
- Remove the harness clamp (A) from the battery base (B)
- M/T model: Remove the harness clamps from the battery base (A/T shown, M/T similiar)
- Remove the bolts (C), and loosen the bolt (D), then remove the battery base
- Remove the harness clamps (A) and the ground cable (B), then disconnect the positive starter cable (C)
- Remove the strut brace (see «FRAME BRACE REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/frames-subframes-crossmembers/#frame) )
- Disconnect the battery cable (A) from the under-hood fuse/relay box
- Remove the harness clamps (B)
- Remove the harness clamp (A), then disconnect the harness connectors (B)
- Remove the harness clamp (A), then disconnect the powertrain control module (PCM) connectors (B)
- Remove the quick-connect fitting cover (A), then disconnect the fuel feed hose (B) (see «FUEL LINE/QUICK-CONNECT FITTING REMOVAL»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/fuel-system/#fuel-supply-system) )
- Disconnect the brake booster vacuum hose (A) and the evaporative emission (EVAP) canister hose (B)
- M/T model: Remove the three bolts securing the shift cable holder, then remove the shift cable and the select cable (see step 20 under Transmission Removal in MANUAL TRANSMISSION). Do not bend the cables excessively.
- M/T model: Remove the clutch slave cylinder and the clutch line bracket mounting nut (see step 21 under Transmission Removal in MANUAL TRANSMISSION). Do not operate the clutch pedal once the slave cylinder has been removed.
- A/T model: Remove the shift cable (see «SHIFT CABLE REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/automatic-trans/#automatic-transmission) ). Do not bend the shift cable excessively.
- Remove the drive belt (see «DRIVE BELT REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/charging-system/#charging-system__drive-belt-replacement) )
- Disconnect the electrical power steering (EPS) connectors (A)
- Remove the steering wheel (see «STEERING WHEEL REMOVAL»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/electronic-steering/#power-steering-system__steering-wheel-removal) )
- Remove the steering joint cover (A)
- Make a reference mark (B) across the steering joint and the steering gearbox pinion shaft Remove the steering joint bolt (C), and disconnect the steering joint from the steering gearbox pinion shaft (D)
- Wait until the engine is cool, then carefully remove the radiator cap
- Raise the vehicle on the lift
- Remove the front wheels
- Remove the splash shield (see «FRONT SPLASH SHIELD REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/exterior-body-panels/#fenderwell__front-splash-shield-replacement) )
- Loosen the dram plug in the radiator, and dram the engine coolant (see «COOLANT CHECK»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/cooling-system-mechanical/#cooling-system) )
- Dram the automate transmission fluid (ATF) (see «ATF REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/automatic-trans/#automatic-transmission) )
- Dram the engine oil (see «ENGINE OIL REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/lubrication-system/#engine-lubrication) )
- Remove the damper fork (see «DAMPER/SPRING REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/suspension-front/#front-suspension) )
- Separate the tie-rod end ball joints from the knuckles (see step 12 on «REMOVAL»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/electronic-steering/#power-steering-system) )
- Separate the knuckles from the suspension lower arms (see «LOWER ARM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/suspension-front/#front-suspension__lower-arm-removalinstallation) )
- Remove the driveshafts (see «DRIVESHAFT INSPECTION»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/axle-shafts/#drivelineaxle__driveshaft-inspection) ) Coat all precision-finished surfaces with new engine oil Tie plastic bags over the driveshaft ends
- Remove the front subframe stiffener
- Remove exhaust pipe A
- With SH-AWD Remove the propeller shaft (see «PROPELLER SHAFT REMOVAL»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/axle-shafts/#drivelineaxle) )
- With SH-AWD Remove the transfer assembly Manual transmission (see Transfer Assembly Removal under Transfer Assembly in MANUAL TRANSMISSION) Automatic transmission (see «TRANSFER ASSEMBLY REMOVAL»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/automatic-trans/#automatic-transmission) )
- A/T model: Disconnect the ATF cooler hoses from the transmission, then plug the ATF cooler hoses and the lines (see «ATF COOLER HOSE REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/automatic-trans/#automatic-transmission) )
- Lower the vehicle on the lift
- Disconnect the upper radiator hose (A) and the lower radiator hose (B)
- Disconnect the heater hoses
- Remove the radiator (see «RADIATOR REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/cooling-system-mechanical/#cooling-system) )
- Disconnect the A/C compressor clutch connector (A), and remove the harness clamp (B)
- Remove the A/C compressor without disconnecting the A/C hoses Do not bend the A/C hoses excessively
- Remove the connector bracket from the front cylinder head, use the bracket bolt hole to attach the engine hanger balance bar front arm
- Remove the harness clamp (A) then remove the engine mount control solenoid valve bracket from the rear cylinder head, use the bracket bolt hole to attach the 2008 V6 attachment arm (SIL02C000033)
- A/T model: Disconnect the vacuum hose (B)
- Lift and support the engine with the engine support hanger (AAR-T1256) and the engine hanger balance bar (VSB02C000019) Attach the front arm (A) to the front cylinder head with a spacer (B) and a 10 x 1 25 mm bolt (C). Remove the rear arm from the engine hanger balance bar, and install the 2008 V6 attachment arm (SIL02C000033), then attach the 2008 V6 attachment arm (D) to the rear cylinder head with a 8 x 1 25 mm bolt (E)
- M/T model: Remove the front engine mount (see «Front Engine Mount Removal and Installation»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/mechanical/#engine-removal-and-installation) )
- A/T model: Disconnect the vacuum hose (A) and remove the front engine mount stop (B), then remove the front engine mount bolt (C)
- M/T model: Remove the rear engine mount bolt (A)
- A/T model: Remove the rear engine mount stop (A), then remove the rear engine mount bolt (B)
- Raise the vehicle on the lift
- Remove the subframe middle mount
- Remove the nuts securing the lower transmission mount
- Attach the front subframe adapter (VSB02C000016) to the subframe by hanging the belt (A) over the front of the subframe (B), then secure the belt with its stop (C)
- Raise the jack and line up the slots in the front subframe adapter arms with the bolt holes on the jack base, then securely attach them with four bolts
- Remove the front subframe
- Lower the vehicle on the lift
- Attach a chain hoist (A) to the engine hook (B) and the transmission hook (C), then lift the engine/transmission until it is securely supported by the chain hoist and remove the engine support hanger and the engine hanger balance bar
- Remove the mounting bolts from the upper half of the side engine mount bracket
- Remove the upper transmission mount bracket mounting bolts and nut NOTE: Do not remove the bolt (A) from the upper transmission mount If the bolt is removed, the upper transmission mount must be replaced as an assembly
- Check that the engine/transmission is completely free of the vacuum hoses, the fuel hoses, the coolant hoses, and the electrical wiring
- Slowly lower the engine/transmission about 150 mm (6 in) Check once again that all the hoses and the electrical wiring are disconnected and free from the engine/transmission, then lower it all the way and support it
- Disconnect the chain hoist from the engine/transmission
- Raise the vehicle, and remove the engine/transmission from under the vehicle

- Install the engine mount brackets and the accessory brackets and tighten their bolts to the specified torque
- Position the engine/transmission under the vehicle Be sure that they are properly aligned Carefully lower the vehicle until the engine/transmission are properly positioned in the engine compartment Make sure the vehicle is not resting on any part of the engine/transmission Support the engine/transmission with a chain hoist (A) and carefully raise the engine/transmission into place NOTE: Reinstall the mounting bolts/support nuts in the sequence given in the following steps Failure to follow this sequence may cause excessive noise and vibration, and reduce engine mount life
- Install the mounting bolts into the upper half of the side engine mount bracket Tighten the bolts to the specified torque
- Tighten the upper transmission mount bracket mounting bolts and nut to the specified torque NOTE: If bolt (A) was removed by mistake during removal, the upper transmission mount bracket must be replaced as an assembly Bolt Specification: 12 x 1.25mm, 54 N.m (5.5 kgf.m, 40 lbf.ft)
- Lift and support the engine with the engine support hanger (AAR-T1256) and the engine hanger balance bar (VSB02C000019) Attach the front arm (A) to the front cylinder head with a spacer (B) and a 10 x 1 25 mm bolt (C) Remove the rear arm from the engine hanger balance bar, and install the 2008 V6 attach arm (SIL02C000033), then attach the 2008 V6 attachment arm (D) to the rear cylinder head with a 8 x 1 25 mm bolt (E)
- Remove the chain hoist, then raise the vehicle on the lift
- Attach the front subframe adapter (VSB02C000016) to the subframe by hanging the belt (A) over the front of the subframe (B), then secure the belt with its stop (C)
- Line up the slots in the front subframe adapter arms with the bolt holes on the jack base, then securely attach them with four bolts, then raise the front subframe up to the body
- Loosely install the four subframe mounting bolts (A), four 12x1 25 mm bolts (B) with the stiffeners (C)
- Loosely install the subframe middle mount
- Remove the jack and the front subframe adapter
- Loosely install the new right-rear subframe mounting bolt (A) and the new right-rear stiffener mounting bolt (B), insert the subframe alignment pin (070AG-SJAA10S) through the positioning slot (C) on the rear stiffener, through the positioning hole (D) on the subframe, and into the positioning hole (E) on the body, then tighten the subframe mounting bolt
- Loosely install the new left-rear subframe mounting bolt and the new left-rear stiffener mounting bolt using the same procedure as the right-rear with the subframe alignment pin
- Loosely install the new subframe mounting bolt (A) and the stiffener mounting bolt (B) on both sides to the front stiffener
- Tighten the right-rear subframe mounting bolt (A) to the specified torque
- Tighten the left-rear subframe mounting bolt (B) to the specified torque
- Tighten the front subframe mounting bolts (C) to the specified torque NOTE: Check all of the subframe mounting bolts, and retighten if necessary
- Tighten the front and rear stiffener mounting bolts (D) to the specified torque NOTE: Before tightening the stiffener mounting bolts, check that the positioning holes and slot are aligned using the subframe alignment pin.
- Tighten the bolts securing the subframe middle mount
- Tighten the bolts securing the lower transmission mount
- Lower the vehicle on the lift
- Remove the engine support hanger, the engine hanger balance bar and the 2008 V6 attachment arm
- M/T model: Install the front engine mount (see «Installation»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/mechanical/#engine-removal-and-installation) )
- A/T model: Tighten the front engine mount bolt (A), then install the front engine mount stop (B) and connect the vacuum hose (C)
- M/T model: Lift and support the engine with a jack and a wood block under the engine/transmission. Loosely install the rear engine mount bolt. Remove the jack and the wood block, then tighten the rear engine mount bolt.
- A/T model: Tighten the rear engine mount bolt (A), then install the rear engine mount stop (B)
- Loosen the mounting bolts for the upper half of the side engine mount bracket, then retighten them to the specified torque
- Loosen the mounting bolts and nut for the upper transmission mount bracket, then retighten them to the specified torque Bolt Specification: 12 x 1.25mm, 54 N.m (5.5 kgf.m, 40 lbf.ft)
- Install the connector bracket to the front cylinder head
- Install the engine mount control solenoid valve bracket to the rear cylinder head, then install the harness clamp (A) Bolt Specification: 8 x 1.25 mm, 22 N.m (2.2 kgf.m, 16 lbf.ft)
- A/T model: connect the vacuum hose (B)
- Install the A/C compressor, then install the harness clamp (A) and connect the A/C compressor clutch connector (B)
- Install the radiator (see «RADIATOR REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/cooling-system-mechanical/#cooling-system) )
- Connect the heater hoses
- Connect the upper radiator hose (A) and the lower radiator hose (B)
- Raise the vehicle on the lift
- Connect the automatic transmission fluid (ATF) cooler hoses to the transmission (see «ATF COOLER HOSE REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/automatic-trans/#automatic-transmission) )
- With SH-AWD Install the transfer assembly: Manual transmission: (see Transfer Assembly Installation under Transfer Assembly in MANUAL TRANSMISSION) Automatic transmission: (see «TRANSFER ASSEMBLY INSTALLATION»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/automatic-trans/#automatic-transmission) )
- With SH-AWD Install the propeller shaft (see «PROPELLER SHAFT INSTALLATION»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/axle-shafts/#drivelineaxle) )
- Install the exhaust pipe A using new gaskets (B) and new self-locking nuts (C)
- Install the front subframe stiffener
- Install a new set ring on the end of each driveshaft, then install the driveshafts Make sure each ring "clicks" into place in the differential and the intermediate shaft
- Connect the suspension lower arm to the knuckles (see «LOWER ARM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/suspension-front/#front-suspension__lower-arm-removalinstallation) )
- Connect the tie-rod end ball joints to the knuckles (see step 40 on «INSTALLATION»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/electronic-steering/#power-steering-system) )
- Install the damper fork (see step 4 on «INSTALLATION»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/suspension-front/#front-suspension) )
- Install the splash shield (see «FRONT SPLASH SHIELD REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/exterior-body-panels/#fenderwell__front-splash-shield-replacement) )
- Install the front wheels
- Lower the vehicle on the lift
- Align the reference mark (A) on the steering joint and the steering gearbox pinion shaft Connect the steering joint (B) to the steering gearbox pinion shaft (C) Tighten the steering joint bolt
- Install the steering joint cover (D)
- Install the steering wheel (see «STEERING WHEEL INSTALLATION»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/electronic-steering/#power-steering-system__steering-wheel-installation) )
- Connect the electrical power steering (EPS) connectors (A)

- A/T model: Install the shift cable (see «SHIFT CABLE REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/automatic-trans/#automatic-transmission) )
- M/T model: Install the clutch slave cylinder and the clutch line bracket mounting bolt (see step 49 in Transmission Installation under MANUAL TRANSMISSION)
- M/T model: Install the shift cable and the select cable, then tighten the three bolts securing the shift cable holder (see step 50 in Transmission Installation under MANUAL TRANSMISSION))
- Connect the brake booster vacuum hose (A) and the evaporative emission (EVAP) canister hose (B)
- Connect the fuel feed hose (A) (see «FUEL LINE/QUICK-CONNECT FITTING INSTALLATION»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/fuel-system/#fuel-supply-system) ), then install the quick-connect fitting cover (B)
- Connect the powertrain control module (PCM) connectors (A), then install the harness clamp (B)
- Connect the harness connectors (A), then install the harness clamp (B)
- Install the harness clamps (A)
- Connect the battery cable (B) to the under-hood fuse/relay box
- Install the strut brace (see «FRAME BRACE REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/frames-subframes-crossmembers/#frame) )
- Connect the positive starter cable (A), then install the ground cable (B) and the harness clamps (C)
- Install the battery base (A), then install the harness clamp (B)
- M/T model: Install the harness clamps (C).
- Install the air cleaner assembly (see «THROTTLE BODY CLEANING»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/testing-diagnostics/#intake-air-system__throttle-body-cleaning) )
- Do the battery installation procedure (see «BATTERY REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/body-electrical/#battery) )
- Install the air intake duct splash separator
- Inspect for fuel leaks Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), or press the engine start/stop button to select the ON mode (do not operate the starter) so the fuel pump runs for about 2 seconds and pressurizes the fuel line Repeat this operation three times, then check for fuel leaks at any point in the fuel line
- Refill the engine with the recommended engine oil (see step 4 on «ENGINE OIL REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/lubrication-system/#engine-lubrication) )
- Refill the transmission with fluid: Manual transmission (see Transmission Fluid Inspection and Replacement under MANUAL TRANSMISSION) Automatic transmission: (see «ATF REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/automatic-trans/#automatic-transmission) )
- M/T model: Check that the transmission shifts into all gears smoothly.
- A/T model: Move the shift lever to each gear, and verify that the A/T gear position indicator follows the transmission range switch
- Refill the radiator with engine coolant, and bleed the air from the cooling system with the heater valve open (see step 9 on «COOLANT REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/cooling-system-mechanical/#cooling-system) )
- Check for fluid leaks
- Do the PCM reset procedure (see «ECM/PCM RESET»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/auxiliary-emission-control-systems/#fuel-and-emissions-systems__ecmpcm-reset) )
- Do the crankshaft position (CKP) pattern clear/CKP pattern learn procedure (see «CKP PATTERN CLEAR/CKP PATTERN LEARN»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/auxiliary-emission-control-systems/#fuel-and-emissions-systems) )

- Remove the engine compartment covers (see «ENGINE COMPARTMENT COVER REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#exterior-trim__engine-compartment-cover-replacement) )
- Do the battery removal procedure (see «CLOSING FORCE AND OPENING DRAG CHECK»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/sun-rooft-topconvertible-top/#moonroof) )
- Remove the air cleaner assembly (see «THROTTLE BODY CLEANING»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/testing-diagnostics/#intake-air-system__throttle-body-cleaning) )
- Remove the cowl cover (see «FRONT BULKHEAD BRACE COVER REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#exterior-trim__front-bulkhead-brace-cover-replacement) )
- Remove the strut brace (see «FRAME BRACE REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/frames-subframes-crossmembers/#frame) )
- Remove the harness clamp (A), then disconnect the harness connectors (B) on the left strut tower
- Remove the two harness clamps (A) and the brake booster vacuum hose clamp (B) from the under-hood fuse/relay box mounting bracket (C)
- Remove the mounting bolt (A) and the two mounting nuts (B) from the under-hood fuse/relay box mounting bracket, then tilt the under-hood fuse/relay box forward
- Raise the vehicle on the lift
- Remove the splash shield (see «FRONT SPLASH SHIELD REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/exterior-body-panels/#fenderwell__front-splash-shield-replacement) )
- Remove the front subframe stiffener (see step 37 under Engine Removal
- Remove exhaust pipe A (see 38 under Engine Removal
- Remove the two rear engine mount bracket mounting bolts (A)
- Lower the vehicle on the lift
- Lift and support the engine with a jack and a wood block under the engine/transmission
- Remove the harness bracket (A).
- Remove the rear engine mount mounting bolt (B), then remove the two rear engine mount bracket mounting bolts (C).
- Remove the rear engine mount bracket (A) from the top by sliding it out, and lifting it out from the driver's side.
- Remove the rear engine mount mounting bolts (A).
- Remove the rear engine mount (A).

- Install the rear engine mount (A)
- Align the rear engine mount with its mounting holes and install the rear engine mount mounting bolts (A) Bolt Specifications: 10 x 1.25mm, 54 N.m (5.5 kgf.m, 40 lbf.ft)
- Install the rear engine mount bracket (A) from the top by sliding it into place from the driver's side.
- Loosely install the two rear engine mount bracket mounting bolts (A) and the rear engine mount mounting bolts (B).
- Install the harness bracket (C).
- Remove the jack and the wood block, then raise the vehicle on the lift.
- Tighten the two rear engine mount bracket mounting bolt (A).
- Install the exhaust pipe A (see 40 under Engine Installation)
- Install the front subframe stiffener (see 41 under Engine Installation)
- Install the splash shield (see «FRONT SPLASH SHIELD REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/exterior-body-panels/#fenderwell__front-splash-shield-replacement) )
- Lower the vehicle on the lift.
- Tighten the two rear engine mount bracket mounting bolts (A), then tighten the rear engine mount mounting bolt (B).
- Install the under-hood fuse/relay box with the mounting bracket, and tighten the two mounting nuts (B) and the mounting bolt (A).
- Install the two harness clamps (A) and the brake booster vacuum hose clamp (B) to the under-hood fuse/relay box mounting bracket (C).
- Connect the harness connectors (A), then install the harness clamp (B) on the left strut tower
- Install the strut brace (see «FRAME BRACE REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/frames-subframes-crossmembers/#frame) )
- Install the cowl cover (see «FRONT BULKHEAD BRACE COVER REPLACEMENT»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#exterior-trim__front-bulkhead-brace-cover-replacement) )
- Install the air cleaner assembly (see «THROTTLE BODY CLEANING»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/testing-diagnostics/#intake-air-system__throttle-body-cleaning) )
