Keyless Access Control Unit

Note. Before doing the input tests, check the B-CAN DTCs. If any DTC is indicated, troubleshoot the indicated DTC first. If you are troubleshooting multiple DTCs, be sure to follow the instructions in B-CAN System Diagnosis Test Mode A (see TROUBLESHOOTING - B-CAN SYSTEM DIAGNOSIS TEST MODE A ).

Scheme 202

Scheme 202: Keyless Access Control Unit
  1. Press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.
  2. Remove the driver's dashboard undercover (see «DRIVER'S DASHBOARD UNDERCOVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#dashboard) ).
  3. Disconnect the connectors (A) from the keyless access control unit (B). NOTE: All connector views are wire side of female terminals.
  4. Inspect the connector and socket terminals to be sure they are all making good contact. If the terminals are bent, loose or corroded, repair them as necessary, and recheck the system. If the terminals look OK, go to step 5.
  5. With the connectors still disconnected, do these input tests at the following connectors. If any test indicates a problem, find and correct the cause, then recheck the system. If all the input tests prove OK, go to step 6. CONTROL UNIT INPUT TEST REFERENCE Cavity Wire Test condition Test: Desired result Possible cause if desired result is not obtained B4 LT BLU Under all conditions Check for continuity between terminal B4 and data link connector (DLC) terminal No. 7: There should be continuity. An open in the K-LINE wire Check for continuity between terminal B4 and body ground: There should be no continuity. A short to ground in the wire B11 ORN Under all conditions Check for continuity between terminal B11 and data link connector (DLC) terminal No. 9: There should be continuity. An open or high resistance in the wire Check for continuity between terminal B11 and body ground: There should be no continuity. A short to ground in the wire B21 LT GRN Disconnect the remote slot control unit 40P connector and driver's under-dash fuse/relay box connector Q (20P). Jump the SCS line with the HDS, disconnect ECM/PCM connector A (49P) Check for continuity between terminal B21 and remote slot control unit 40P connector terminal No. 14: There should be continuity. An open in the S-NET wire Check for continuity between terminal B21 and driver's under-dash fuse/relay box connector Q (20P) terminal No. 15: There should be continuity. Check for continuity between terminal B21 and ECM/PCM connector A (49P) terminal No. 46: There should be continuity. Check for continuity between terminal B21 and body ground: There should be no continuity. A short to ground in the wire B27 RED Disconnect the remote slot control unit 40P connector and the remote slot 16P connector Check for continuity between terminal B27 and remote slot control unit 40P connector terminal No. 27: There should be continuity. An open or high resistance in the wire Check for continuity between terminal B27 and remote slot 16P connector terminal No. 14: There should be continuity. Check for continuity between terminal B27 and body ground: There should be no continuity. A short to ground in the wire
  6. Reconnect the connectors to the keyless access control unit, and do these input tests at the following connectors. If any test indicates a problem, find and correct the cause, then recheck the system. If all the input tests prove OK, go to step 7.   3. 9. Disconnect the connectors (A) from the power control unit (B). NOTE: All connector views are wire side of female terminals.
  4. 10. Inspect the connector and the socket terminals to be sure they are all making good contact. If the terminals are bent, loose or corroded, repair them as necessary, and recheck the system. If the terminals look OK, go to step 11.

  1. 13. Press the engine start/stop button to select the OFF mode.
  2. 14. Remove the column covers (see «STEERING COLUMN COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#dashboard__steering-column-cover-removalinstallation) ).
  3. 15. Disconnect the connector (A) from the electric steering lock (B).
  4. 16. Inspect the connector and socket terminals to be sure they are all making good contact. If the terminals are bent, loose or corroded, repair them as necessary, and recheck the system. If the terminals look OK, go to step 17.
  5. 17. Reconnect the connector to the electric steering lock, and do these input tests at the following connector. If any test indicates a problem, find and correct the cause, then recheck the system. If all the input tests prove OK, go to step 18.   7. 24. If multiple failures are found on more than one control unit, replace the keyless access control unit. If input failures are related to a particular control unit, replace the control unit.

Scheme 206: RF Unit 1 Replacement
  1. Remove the center console panel (see «CENTER CONSOLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#consoles__center-console-removalinstallation) ).
  2. Disconnect the 3P connector (A) from RF unit 1 (B)and remove the harness clip (C).
  3. Remove the bolts and RF unit 1.
  4. Install the unit in the reverse order of removal.

Scheme 207: RF Unit 2 Replacement
  1. Remove the rear seat-back (see «REAR SEAT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/seats/#seats__rear-seat-removalinstallation) ).
  2. Disconnect the 3P connector (A) from RF unit 2 (B).
  3. Remove the nut and the clip, then remove RF unit 2.
  4. Install the unit in the reverse order of removal.

Scheme 208: Front Interior LF Antenna Replacement
  1. Remove the center console panel (see «CENTER CONSOLE REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/gauges-instrument-panels/#consoles__center-console-removalinstallation) ).
  2. Disconnect the 2P connector (A) from the front interior LF antenna (B).
  3. Remove the two screws from the front interior LF antenna.
  4. Install the antenna in the reverse order of removal.

Scheme 209: Rear Interior LF Antenna Replacement
  1. Remove the rear seat cushion (see «REAR SEAT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/seats/#seats__rear-seat-removalinstallation) ).
  2. Pull out the carpet as needed.
  3. Disconnect the 2P connector (A) from the rear interior LF antenna (B).
  4. Remove the two nuts and the rear interior LF antenna.
  5. If necessary, remove the two bolts and replace the bracket (C).
  6. Install the antenna in the reverse order of removal.

Scheme 210: Rear Shelf LF Antenna Replacement
  1. Remove the trunk upper trim panel (see «TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - TRUNK AREA»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#interior-trim__trim-removalinstallation-trunk-area) ).
  2. Disconnect the 2P connector (A) from the rear shelf LF antenna (B).
  3. Remove the two nuts and the rear shelf LF antenna.
  4. If necessary, remove the rear shelf (see «TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION - REAR SHELF AREA»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#interior-trim__trim-removalinstallation-rear-shelf-area) ).
  5. If necessary, remove the two nuts and replace the bracket (C).
  6. Install the antenna in the reverse order of removal.

  2. Disconnect the 2P connector (A) from the rear bumper LF antenna (B) and remove the harness clip (C).
  3. Remove the two nuts and the rear bumper LF antenna.
  4. Install the antenna in the reverse order of removal.

  1. Remove the driver's center trim (see «DASHBOARD CENTER TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#dashboard) ).
  2. Disconnect the 10P connector (A) from the engine start/stop switch (B).
  3. Remove the two screws, and the engine start/stop switch.
  4. Check for continuity between the terminals in each switch position according to the table. NOTE: Make sure the correct test lead (+ or -) is placed on the terminal.
  5. Install the switch in the reverse order of removal.

  1. Remove the column covers (see «STEERING COLUMN COVER REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#dashboard__steering-column-cover-removalinstallation) ).
  2. Remove the driver's center trim (see «DASHBOARD CENTER TRIM REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#dashboard) ).
  3. Remove the two screws, then pull out the remote slot (A).
  4. Disconnect the 16P connector (B) from the remote slot.
  5. Check for continuity between the terminals in each slot state according to the table. NOTE: Make sure the correct test lead (+ or -) is placed on the terminal.
  6. If the continuity is not as specified, replace the remote slot.
  7. Insert the remote into the remote slot.
  8. Connect the positive battery terminal to remote slot connector terminal No. 16, and the negative battery terminal to terminal No. 8. Check that the remote cannot be removed from the remote slot. Connect the positive battery terminal to remote slot connector terminal No. 8, and the negative battery terminal to terminal No. 16. Check that the remote can be removed from the remote slot.
  9. If the remote interlock solenoid works improperly, replace the remote slot.
  10. Install the remote slot in the reverse order of removal.

  1. Remove the glove box (see «GLOVE BOX REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/exteriorinterior-trim/#dashboard__glove-box-removalinstallation) ).
  2. Disconnect the 2P connector (A) from the keyless access system mode switch (B).
  3. Push out the keyless access system mode switch from the glove box.
  4. Check for continuity between the terminals in each switch position according to the table.
  5. If the continuity is not as specified, replace the switch.
  6. Install the switch in the reverse order of removal.

Note. If the doors unlock or lock with the remote, but the LED on the remote does not come on, the LED is faulty; replace the remote. If any door is open, you cannot lock the doors with the remote. If you unlocked the doors with the remote, but do not open any of the doors within 30 seconds, the doors relock automatically. The doors do not lock with the transmitter if the power mode is in ACC.

  1. Press the lock or unlock button at least 10 times to reset the remote. If the locks work, the remote is OK. If any of the remote buttons do not work, replace the remote, then register the remote (see «WHEN REPLACING THE POWER CONTROL UNIT OR THE ELECTRIC STEERING CONTROL UNIT»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/door-locks-anti-theft-systems/#keyless-access-system__when-replacing-the-power-control-unit) ). If the locks don't work, go to step 2.
  2. Connect the HDS to the data link connector.
  3. Select KEYLESS TRANSMITTER from the BODY ELECTRICAL menu, then select INSPECTION, then KEYLESS CHECK.
  4. Press the lock, unlock, or panic button and check the response on the screen of the HDS. NOTE: The door lock actuators may or may not cycle when receiving input from the remote. If KEYLESS ENTRY TRANSMITTER CODE IS RECEIVED is indicated, the remote is OK. If DIFFERENT KEYLESS ENTRY TRANSMITTER CODE IS RECEIVED is indicated, the remote is not registered to the vehicle. If necessary, register the remote (see «WHEN REPLACING THE REMOTE SLOT CONTROL UNIT/KEYLESS ACCESS CONTROL UNIT/ECM/PCM/DRIVER'S MICU OR REGISTRATION OF THE REMOTE(S)»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/door-locks-anti-theft-systems/#keyless-access-system__when-replacing-the-remote-slot-control) ). If KEYLESS ENTRY TRANSMITTER CODE IS NOT RECEIVED is indicated, go to step 5.
  5. Open the remote, and check for water damage. If you find any water damage, replace the remote, then register it (see «WHEN REPLACING THE REMOTE SLOT CONTROL UNIT/KEYLESS ACCESS CONTROL UNIT/ECM/PCM/DRIVER'S MICU OR REGISTRATION OF THE REMOTE(S)»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/door-locks-anti-theft-systems/#keyless-access-system__when-replacing-the-remote-slot-control) ). If there is no water damage, go to step 6.
  6. Replace the remote battery (A) with a new one (CR2032), and press the lock or unlock button and check the response on the screen of the HDS. If KEYLESS ENTRY TRANSMITTER CODE IS RECEIVED is indicated, the remote is OK. If KEYLESS ENTRY TRANSMITTER CODE IS NOT RECEIVED is indicated, go to step 7.
  7. Use a different known-good remote assembly and repeat steps 3 and 4 . NOTE: The remote does not need to be programmed to the vehicle for this test. If (DIFFERENT) KEYLESS ENTRY TRANSMITTER CODE IS RECEIVED is indicated, replace the remote and do the keyless access system registration (see «KEYLESS ACCESS SYSTEM REGISTRATION»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/door-locks-anti-theft-systems/#keyless-access-system) ). If KEYLESS ENTRY TRANSMITTER CODE IS NOT RECEIVED is indicated, the keyless access control unit is faulty, replace it and do the keyless access system registration (see «KEYLESS ACCESS SYSTEM REGISTRATION»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/door-locks-anti-theft-systems/#keyless-access-system) ). NOTE: The remote is combined with the immobilizer transponder, so when the transponder is registered by the HDS, the remote programming is completed automatically.

Scheme 220

Scheme 220: Without HDS
  1. Open the remote, and check for water damage. If you find any water damage, replace the remote. If there is no water damage, go to step 2.
  2. Replace the remote battery (A) with a new one (CR2032), and try to lock and unlock the doors with the remote by pressing the lock or unlock button at least 10 times. If the doors lock and unlock, the remote is OK. If the doors don't lock and unlock, go to step 3.
  3. Reprogram the remote with the HDS, then try to lock and unlock the doors. If the doors lock and unlock, the remote is OK. If the doors don't lock and unlock, try and program to another vehicle. If the remote programs to another vehicle, go to B-CAN System Diagnosis Test Mode A (see «TROUBLESHOOTING - B-CAN SYSTEM DIAGNOSIS TEST MODE A»(/acura/tl/iv-2008-2011/remont/communication-devices/#multiplex-integrated-control-system__troubleshooting-b-can-system-diagnosis-test) ). If the remote will not program to another vehicle, replace it.

Note. Check for aftermarket electrical equipment that can cause problems with keyless access operation. While doing the registration, keep the remote away from computers. While doing the registration, make sure the doors are closed. Programming the remote also programs the keyless transmitter.
