Maintenance Minder Acura RL II

Reset Procedures 10 illustrations ~580 words

Multi-Information Display

The Maintenance Minder is an important feature of the multi-information display. Based on engine operating conditions and accumulated engine revolutions, the RL's onboard computer (PCM) calculates the remaining engine oil life. The system also displays the codes for other scheduled maintenance items needing service.

List of maintenance main items "A" (see «MAINTENANCE MAIN ITEMS»(/acura/rl/ii-2004-2008/remont/reset-procedures/#maintenance-minder__maintenance-main-items) ) List of maintenance sub items "B" (see «MAINTENANCE SUB ITEMS»(/acura/rl/ii-2004-2008/remont/reset-procedures/#maintenance-minder) )
  3. To turn off message, press up or down buttons on the steering wheel.
  4. When the remaining engine oil life is less than 5 percent, the display shows a "SERVICE DUE NOW," message with the maintenance item code(s).
  5. When the remaining engine oil life is less than 0 percent, the display shows a "SERVICE PAST DUE" message.
  6. And the "0" will be blinking in the engine oil life minder.
  7. If the indicated required service is not done and the remaining engine oil life becomes 0 percent, the display shows a "SERVICE PAST DUE" message, the total mileage (U.S. model) or km (Canada model) after the remaining oil life becomes 0 percent, and the maintenance items code(s).
  8. This message is displayed when the vehicle is driven over 10 miles (U.S. model) or 10 km (Canada model) after the 0 percent message is displayed.

Resetting The Maintenance-Information Display

Note. If the required service is performed and the display is not reset, or if the display is reset without performing the service, the system will not show the proper maintenance levels. This can lead to serious mechanical problems because there will be no record of when maintenance is needed.

Scheme 17: Resetting The Maintenance-Information Display
  1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
  2. Push and release the SEL/RESET button on the steering wheel repeatedly until the oil life is displayed (if more than 15 percent) or the maintenance message is displayed (if oil life is less than 15 percent). NOTE: If you are resetting the display when the oil life is more than 15 percent, the maintenance message "SERVICE DUE SOON" will be displayed. Make sure the maintenance items requiring service have been performed before resetting this display.
  3. Push and hold the SEL/RESET button for 10 seconds. The display will change to the "OIL LIFE RESET" mode. To reset the engine oil life, press the info button to select RESET on the display, then press the SEL/RESET button. The maintenance item code(s) will disappear, and the engine oil life indicator will reset to "100". To cancel resetting the engine oil life, press the info button to select CANCEL on the display, and press the SEL/RESET button. If the engine oil life and maintenance code do not complete the reset procedure within 30 seconds after selecting the "OIL LIFE RESET" mode, the mode will be canceled automatically.

Maintenance Main Items

If the message "SERVICE DUE NOW" does not appear more than 12 months after the display is reset, change the engine oil every year.
