Zone Selection
Zone selection is required to compensate for the difference between magnetic North and geographic North. This deviation is referred to as declination, the compass compensates for declination when you select the zone where the vehicle is located.

- Check the No. 10 (7.5 A) fuse in the under-dash fuse/relay box. Is the fuse OK? YES -Go to step 2. NO -Replace the fuse, and recheck. If the fuse blows again, check for a short in the No. 10 (7.5 A) fuse circuit.
- Check if the electrical compass unit 6P connector is properly connected. Is the connector properly connected? YES -Go to step 3. NO -Reconnect the connector, and recheck.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
- Measure the voltage between electrical compass unit 6P connector terminal No. 1 and body ground. Is there battery voltage? YES -Go to step 5. NO -Repair an open or high resistance in the wire between electrical compass unit 6P connector terminal No. 1 and the No. 10 (7.5 A) fuse in the under-dash fuse/relay box.
- Measure the voltage between electrical compass unit 6P connector terminal No. 2 and body ground. Is there less than 0.2 V? YES -Go to step 6. NO -Repair an open or high resistance in the wire between electrical compass unit 6P connector terminal No. 2 and body ground (G602) (see «CONNECTOR TO FUSE/RELAY BOX INDEX»(ref-513872-S18804119332012111600000) ).
- Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
- Disconnect the electrical compass unit 6P connector and audio unit connector D (32P).
- Check for continuity between the electrical compass unit 6P connector and body ground according to the table. Electrical compass unit connector Wire color 3 WHT 4 RED 5 BLU 6 ORN Is there continuity? YES -Repair a short to body ground in the wire(s) between the electrical compass unit and the audio unit. NO -Go to step 9.
- Check for continuity between the electrical compass unit 6P connector and audio unit connector D (32P) according to the table. Electrical compass unit connector Audio unit connector Wire color 3 D17 WHT 4 D1 RED 5 D18 BLU 6 D2 ORN Is there continuity? YES -Repair an open in the wire(s) between the electrical compass unit and the audio unit. NO -Substitute a known-good electrical compass unit (see «ELECTRICAL COMPASS UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-513925-S01170902212012111600000) ), and recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away, replace the original electrical compass unit (see «ELECTRICAL COMPASS UNIT REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-513925-S01170902212012111600000) ). If the symptom/indication is still present, replace the audio unit (see «WITH PREMIUM AUDIO»(ref-513877-S04136701492012111600000) ).
Set the compass zone
Note. Do this procedure any time the electrical compass unit is replaced. Do this procedure in an open area away from buildings, power lines, and other vehicles. If you see "- -" in the compass display and the CAL indicator is shown in the display, the electrical compass unit is self-calibrating. The electrical compass unit may need to be manually calibrated after exposure to a strong magnetic field. If the electrical compass seems to be continually showing the wrong direction and is not self-calibrating, do the following procedure. In most areas, there is a variation between magnetic north and true north. The electrical compass zone needs to be set to your geographic zone to compensate for this variation.

- Check the No. 23 (10 A) fuse in the under-hood fuse/relay box. Then check the No. 10 (7.5A) fuse and the No. 35 (7.5 A) fuses in the under-dash fuse/relay box
- Turn the ignition switch to ON (II), then press and hold the RPT button (A) and SOUND button (B) on the audio switch panel for about 5 seconds until you hear a beep. The display shows the electrical compass setting menu items.
- When COMPASS SET is displayed, press the No. 2 button on the audio switch panel.
- Press the preset No. 2 button on the audio switch panel and the current zone will be displayed.
- Compare the zone setting displayed to the map. If the zone is incorrect, use the preset No. 1 or No. 2 buttons to select the proper zone.
- Lock in the select zone by pressing the preset No. 3 button.
