DTC B2191: Front Passenger's MPCS Unit Internal Error (EEPROM error) Acura MDX II facelift

Note. If you are troubleshooting multiple DTCs, be sure to follow the instructions in B-CAN System Diagnosis Test Mode A (see TROUBLESHOOTING - B-CAN SYSTEM DIAGNOSIS TEST MODE A ).

  1. Clear the DTCs with the HDS.
  2. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0) and then back to ON (II).
  3. Check for DTCs with the HDS. Is DTC B2191 indicated? YES -Replace the front passenger's MPCS unit. NO -Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time.

Scheme 26: Driver's MPCS Unit Input Test
  1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  2. Remove the driver's door panel (see «FRONT DOOR PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-510498-S16846526992012102300000) ).
  3. Disconnect driver's MPCS unit (A) connectors A (40P) and B (14P).
  4. Inspect the connector and socket terminals to be sure they are all making good contact. If the terminals are bent, loose, or corroded, repair them as necessary, and recheck the system. If the terminals look OK, go to step 5.
  5. With the connectors still disconnected, do the following input tests: If any test indicates a problem, find and correct the cause, then recheck the system. If all the input tests prove OK, go to step 6. Cavity Wire Test condition Test: Desired result Possible cause if desired result is not obtained A8 GRY Under-dash fuse/relay box connector J (21P) and power window master switch 14P connector disconnected Check for continuity between terminal A8 and under-dash fuse/relay box connector J (12P) terminal No. 1, and terminal A8 and power window master switch 14P connector terminal No. 13: There should be continuity. An open or high resistance in the wire Check for continuity to ground: There should be no continuity. Short to ground in the wire A39 WHT Under all conditions Measure the voltage to ground: There should be battery voltage. Blown No. 3 (P/W) (50 A) fuse in the main under-hood fuse box Faulty main under-hood fuse box Faulty under-dash fuse/relay box Faulty power window relay An open or high resistance in the wire A3 ORN Connect terminal A39 to body ground, and connect terminals A3 and B8 with a Jumper wire. Check the left rear power window motor operation: The motor should run (the power window should go up).   6. Reconnect the connectors, and do the following input tests: If any test indicates a problem, find and correct the cause, then recheck the system. If all the input tests prove OK, replace the driver's MPCS unit, then go to step 7. Measure the voltage between terminals B5 and B6: An analog voltmeter should alternate between 0 V and about 5 V (a digital voltmeter should read about 2.5 V while the window moves). Scheme 27: Front Passenger's MPCS Unit Input Test
  1. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
  2. Remove the front passenger's door panel (see «FRONT DOOR PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-510498-S16846526992012102300000) ).
  3. Disconnect front passenger's MPCS unit (A) connectors A (28P) and B (14P).
  4. Inspect the connector and socket terminals to be sure they are all making good contact. If the terminals are bent, loose, or corroded, repair them as necessary, and recheck the system. If the terminals look OK, go to step 5.
  5. With the connectors still disconnected, do the following input tests: If any test indicates a problem, find and correct the cause, then recheck the system. If all the input tests prove OK, go to step 6. If all the input tests prove OK, replace the front passenger's MPCS unit, then go to step 7.   1. Remove the door panel (see «FRONT DOOR PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-510498-S16846526992012102300000) ), and disconnect the driver's door wire harness B 28P connector (A) from the driver's door wire harness A.
  2. At the driver's door wire harness B 28P connector, test the power window motor in each direction by connecting battery power and ground according to the table. When the motor stops running, disconnect one lead immediately.
  3. If the motor does not run or fails to run smoothly, go to step 4.
  4. Disconnect the 6P connector (A) from the driver's power window motor (B).
  5. Check for continuity between driver's power window motor 6P connector terminals No. 3 and No. 6 and the driver's door wire harness B 28P connector terminals No. 27 and No. 28 respectively. There should be continuity. If there is no continuity, repair an open in the wire. If there is continuity, replace the power window motor.
  6. After replacing the power window motor, reset the «power window control unit»(ref-510499-S29613553802012102300000)

  1. Remove the door panel (see «FRONT DOOR PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-510498-S16846526992012102300000) ), and disconnect the front passenger's door wire harness 20P connector (A) from the front passenger's door subharness.
  2. At the front passenger's door wire harness 20P connector, test the power window motor in each direction by connecting battery power and ground according to the table. When the motor stops running, disconnect one lead immediately.
  3. If the motor does not run or fails to run smoothly, go to step 4.
  4. Disconnect the 6P connector (A) from the front passenger's power window motor (B).
  5. Check for continuity between front passenger's power window motor 6P connector terminals No. 1 and No. 4 and the front passenger's door wire harness 20P connector terminals No. 2 and No. 20 respectively. There should be continuity. If there is no continuity, repair an open in the wire. If there is continuity, replace the power window motor.
  6. After replacing the power window motor, «reset the power window control unit»(ref-510499-S29613553802012102300000)

  1. Remove the door panel (see «FRONT DOOR PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-510498-S16846526992012102300000) ), and disconnect the rear power window switch 14P connector (A).
  2. Test the power window motor in each direction by connecting battery power and ground according to the table. When the motor stops running, disconnect one lead immediately.
  3. If the motor does not run or fails to run smoothly, go to step 4.
  4. Disconnect the 6P connector (A) from the rear power window motor (B). The illustration shows the right rear door, the left rear door is similarly configured.
  5. Check for continuity between rear power window motor 6P connector terminals No. 1 and No. 2 and rear power window switch 14P connector terminals No. 1 and No. 7 respectively. There should be continuity. If there is no continuity, repair an open in the wire. If there is continuity, replace the power window motor.
  6. After replacing the power window motor, «reset the power window control unit»(ref-510499-S29613553802012102300000)

  1. Remove the front passenger's door panel (see «FRONT DOOR PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-510498-S16846526992012102300000) ), and disconnect the 14P connector from the front passenger's power window switch.
  2. Check for continuity between the terminals in each switch position according to the table.
  3. If the continuity is not as specified, «replace the switch»(ref-510499-S07579050532012102300000)

  1. Remove the rear door panel (see «FRONT DOOR SIDE SILL SEAL REPLACEMENT»(ref-510498-S33406236032012102300000) ), and disconnect the 14P connector from the rear power window switch.
  2. Remove the power window switch panel (see «FRONT DOOR SIDE SILL SEAL REPLACEMENT»(ref-510498-S33406236032012102300000) ).
  3. Remove the three mounting screws and the rear power window switch (A).
  4. Swap the rear power window switch with another known-good power window switch and test. If the original power window switch is faulty; replace it.
  5. Install the switch in the reverse order of removal.
  6. «Reset the power window control unit»(ref-510499-S29613553802012102300000)

  1. Remove the driver's door panel (see «FRONT DOOR PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-510498-S16846526992012102300000) ), and disconnect the 14P connector from the power window master switch.
  2. Remove the power window switch panel (see «FRONT DOOR PANEL REMOVAL/INSTALLATION»(ref-510498-S16846526992012102300000) ).
  3. Remove the four mounting screws and the power window master switch (A).
  4. Install the switch in the reverse order of removal.
  5. «Reset the power window control unit»(ref-510499-S29613553802012102300000)

  4. Install the switch in the reverse order of removal.
